General Discussion / Re:Don't Copy that Floppy

The black man in a dubious suit provided quite a lengthy argument.
He was very tedious, which nicely contrasted with the supposedly catchy tune.

What I liked the most is the fact that for the first time in history government has to ask to be honorable and morally upright because itt has absolutely no control over what you do with data.
Which is nice.

And will you please stop spelling my name wrong? I'm not from America, I'm from Sweden.

Know, my hapless friend, that driven by ill will I shall call you "Matt" till death sprinkles grey ash on my eyelids.

As for the original topic:
I would much prefer if you remade DOTT to make it in graphical style of Maniac Mansion.
The latter's graphic was circa kazillion times better than the DOTT's forced, quasi-weird antics.

if you're negative to this, stay away from this topic, ok?  ;)

Have you ever read the title of your thread, Matt?

But, Garage Gothic...
Do you really think that what matters in Trier's series is the plot? I mean, is it really important what is the end of the story??
I'm really surprised with your reply.
The cast, the atmosphere, the jokes, the music - this is what matters here, not a story! It was evident that Lars didn't know how it is going to end, much like Lynch with his "Twin Peaks".
It's not a fable with a moral!

I'm rejoiced to see that our long talks on emotional response theory, the structure of a tale and postmodern approach to tradition bear their fruits, my young friend.

Some genius prophesised the event years ago!

At the time being I'm not going to comment on American media.
ABC is going to air a Stephen King's "remake" of Von Trier's "Kingdom".
I'll stop here because I value my heart.
#427
No! Why make a remake, when the original is all good???

This is a question that's keep revolving in my head since I've heard that the American Television is about to air... a REMAKE OF VON TRIER'S "KINGDOM"!!!
The original is only 5 years old, so I don't know what Stephen King wants to "improve"... of course, the Danish Genius didn't use CG, so maybe American TV Moguls want to add some lens flare...
And they keep saying that it is "inspired by von Trier's series" whereas ALL CHARACTERS are taken directly from the original, along with huge amount of plot (even little crosses with names of the patients... KING, oh, you're so fucking original, Stephen King's Kingdom Hospital, indeed!)

Sorry -- as you can see, my views on remakes are highly biased at the moment.

EDIT: Oh, and the remake is going to be directed by a man who made one episode of "A-team". One more reason for me to stay helluva far from websites about American media. Brilliant. A man who filmed Mr. T's stunts is going to compete with a genius who renewed modern cinema. Congratulations.

It would be best if we'd be able to actually administer death directly to the players.
See their minds at work!

As for the jail solution: okay, so you escape the jail, and get caught again. What does the player do? Escapes the jail again, digs that tunnel and wanders through the air-ducts maze again?
Nope, he/she restores.
Much like when the character dies.
So, what's the difference?

Playing GF I've felt that the puzzles were so unforgiving and - at times - weird because Lucasarts released so many adventure games before and they simply didn't want to repeat themselves.
#430
Hey, thanks a lot! There are enough to keep me occupied for a long time.
"What are you doing, Blazej? Playing games again, old fart?"
"Hey, Ich lerne!"

So far, I think the phrases I will know best will be:
"Es funktionert nicht"
and
"Je pense que cela ne fonctionera pas."

Okay, so I've been trying to catch up with my French and German recently, and I thought: hey, what better way to do this than playing your favourite genre of computer games? This is the way I've learnt my basics of English, anyway!

So, here goes a plea. It is easy to filter once you know a language well, but when you'll still learning... well, let's just say that "jeux aventure" on google only increased my inventory of Gator cookies.

Do you know any good links to (good) abandonware or independent games in languages other than English?
#432
Ah hah ha hah! Nothing evil will happen, because 1st me looks at 2nd me but 2nd me doesn't look at 1st me!

So nothing, absolutely nothing will happen!

My mom told me that and moms are never mistaken.

Oh my god, not again this Bestowers of Eternity was such a crappy game!
You must be the only man who wants a sequel, what a ridiculous idea!

FOOL!

I hope THE IDEA FOR THE BESTOWERS OF ETERNITY SEQUEL GOES TO HELL OF VERY FRESH FRENCH CHEESE AND SUFFOCATES IN THE ABOVEMENTIONED CHEESE'S STINK!

EVERYBODY HATES THIS STUPID GAME!
WHY I TELL YOU WHY BECAUSE IT WAS CRAPPY LIKE GESTAPO FORCES IN COMPARISON WITH INDIANA JONES WERE!

So, both of them are going to die? :-\

Much like anyone who hasn't met their Doppelgaenger, I suppose.
As the meeting I've described happened almost two years ago, I take it the Powers Above must've forgotten about the omen. So, be quiet.
#435
I had an even more unsettling experience.

One day, in a bus, I've met a man who looked exactly like me. His friends started whispering and laughing, but let me tell you that me and him really didn't find it funny at all.

It was rather terryfying. We tried not to look at each other, although obviously it was a hard thing to do. At some time I realised that we differed only in grimaces, that is: he made different things with his face, had a different way of raising eyebrows or smiling, but the face itself was the same (apart from the haircut, because my haircut is one and only in whole world, as I make it myself).

Those were 10 minutes from a horror film. Meeting your Doppelgaenger isn't pleasant.
#436
Hey, this could even be a brilliant idea for the series.
If this is going to be your first game using AGS, you could start with a smaller mystery William and his sidekick have to face, a sort of a pilot to the series...
#437
I think that it's a common phenomenon that when a person enjoys some kind of music he/she thinks others should also be given a chance to bask in its beauty. Thus ridiculous volume settings. It's quite a blow to the person's Weltanschauung when they realise that others don't enjoy.

edit: DS, do you check your IM box?

Couldn't he have been touched by a dirty old guy instead?

Bah, of course he could!
But, as a result, you'd get one of Socrates' dialogues, not an epic tale storyline.
#439
Frodo MUST be an orphan.
The protagonist of a magical tale has to be put in a special situation, has to be touched by something that makes him stand outside the society.
#440
Os: I think you're thinking of the Mission, although there was a Name of the Rose film with Sean Connery as the protagonist.

The idea is, of course, wonderful. Go for it, but, as already mentioned, please add some more puzzles for those who read the book (as the setting is perfect, it shouldn't be too much of hassle).
