My nickname is "Goldmund".

Well, it's not my fault that you cannot see the comic genius if it struck your face. Ask anybody on this forum, maybe they can explain to you why this line is brilliant.

I was hired illegaly in this translating company. They even had stacks of blank paper with a stamp and a signature of a sworn translator for us to fill in. He got some money for this "in blanco", I assume.

Anyway, one day I got a furnace manual written in english by a Taiwanese. My job was to translate it to polish.
Ah.
I still remember my favourite line:
"The controls can be."

"Dad, are you sure he is there?"
"Absolutely, darling."

This always cracks me up. My pants are wet as I write.

AGS Games in Production / Re:Punk Quest
Sun 27/04/2003 00:43:53
There's a quite decent punk Interactive Fiction game made by some authentic squat-dwellers, it's called Broken String.
When playing that, I was sure it would make a great point and click.
You may be interested in checking this title for ideas, or whatever.

Sorry, but as a [/i]writer I take this opportunity to say that the plot would be much cooler if the player was the witch who goes on quest to kick the king's royal butt.
We have too few games about wicca and menstrual blood magik.

QuoteINT: -5 ( I plan to be senile)
WIS:20 ( I'll say metaphors like "If you want a chicken, go ask a monkey")

How's that for a senile metaphor of the year.

Shades of gray is fantastic. It's monumental. Although the pre-final chapter (wandering in this voodoo garden) was rather boring.
From the newer stuff, I recommend Fallacy of Dawn. It's made in Hugo, has some photographic art, and is very enjoyable.
YOU CANNOT MISS:
Gateway 1 and 2!!!!
And Time Quest!
The latter not so serious like Gateway and Fallacy, but also great. LEGEND RULES YO ASS.

I'm sooo happy that somebody besides me likes IF.
Of course, Terran, you should also play all winners from the IF competitions. One day I'm gonna make the biggest text game in history!11! (after i finish donna okay i go now)

I mean, a game about escaping from a Nazi prison camp (for example, a prison camp for English pilots) could be very cool and even humorous. But not from an industrial killing complex. La Vita E Bella wasn't about Aschwitz, was it.

I don't think that "hate mail" or offending anyone should deter you from doing what you think is right.
It's just that Auschwitz, in my opinion, is a place where no "quest" is possible. I would never believe that a man who had to shave own wife and daughter before leading them to a gas chamber could suddenly combine inventory items and find a way to escape the place where earth exploded from the gas of rotting bodies buried in it. Any attempt of thinking of such a story would result in you involuntarily taking a step towards making the memory of the place lighter and less terryfying than it was.

Make it set in a prison camp, or whatever.
Don't do Auschwitz.
Very bad idea.
Read a little and learn for yourself.

Hey, I'm a fan of FenderQ series.
I think they should be reccomended on the AGS site one month, because they're relatively little known, while their graphical and dramaturgical minimalism is very entertaining.
However, I liked this game less than others in the series; I prefer them to take place in this crazy town.

Too bad that there are no Shai-Huluds to devour Emperor Pretzel.

BTW, Eduardo, are there more than 3 endings? I think you can tell us by now.

My age has also reached this specific number, mr "Me ares 27" ;)

I was thinking about Howard's End: The Game with Lucasarts GUI consisting of two options: walk and look, but I'm too lazy to hunt for stills.

Have you noticed, oh
AGS haiku masters
Who make this thread bloom...

How ignorant ones
Enraged by beauty of verse
Publish bullshit here?

Their minds of envy,
Hearts ridden with monkeyrie
Their pens do babble.

Finished!
Eduardo, it seems that I can't congratulate you enough!
It is definitely way on the top of independent games.
It was well worth the wait.
I said it before, but I absolutely love the comic-like appearance of backgrounds and I was slightly sad to see them dissapear by the end of the game, although the 3d ones were of course very good. It's just they didn't have the same unique atmosphere.
What can I say - there aren't many commercial games so involving as the UM.
All the endings are terryfying and leave player wondering, which is great. Amazing atmosphere to them.
I missed to see what is Susan's apartment like, something from her more intimate side - but it's just me, he he.
You didn't really use the artist's park - did you plan something more there? With the painter etc.?
As a sci-fi detective game - it's amazing, and it's incredible how you make the player wonder what will happen next and what is the explanation of all this. Especially when all the stuff with paintings begins, the game acquires this eerie paranoid atmosphere.
I loved the museum puzzle, when you-know-what happened to reveal what is freedom - it was great.
The plot idea was also very unique.
Puzzles were logical and well-placed: they were sometimes hard, but not hard enough to make me ask for hints.
All in all, you should work in the business. But we could expect that from the maker of Dentist Quest.
I think that you should keep some place on your virtual shelves come the next AGS awards.
The funny thing is that I have some similar puzzles and technical ideas in Donna - but I don't despair, as my story and atmosphere is quite different.
Anyway - good, good job. It must've been lots of effort.

now, for the SERIOUS BUG that leaves a player in dead-end situation:
Spoiler

When you write down the coordinates from the statue and then talk to phil again, the laptop doc gets updated and you loose the numbers from the museum without the chance of getting back there!

edit:
IMPORTANTE!
Ratracer, I think should enclose the winsetup file. The game ran very slow on my home computer, so I jury-rigged the winsetup from another AGS game with UltraEdit32. When I set up the sprite cache in advanced options to maximum, it ran much faster.
