Monkey Wrench is one of my most anticipated AGS games, looks fantastic Snake, good to see Glumpkin for the first time too. The character art is super, very nice and cartoony.

Allie likes short shorts doesn't she! ;)

I enjoyed this one a lot, just shows what can be achieved with Insta-Game. It had a good sense of humour throughout, I liked the chatter with Sidekick in the bar. Got stumped finding my way around the desert, that was a cheeky bit of puzzle trickery - good though, kind of a 'think outside the box' thing.

Pirate Fry 2 is the one I'm most looking forward to...but also Monkey Wrench, Run Hot, Suspico, Fatman Adventures, What Time Is It?, Foodbelly, and probably a few others I've forgotten, all look/sound fantastic. There's a lot of great stuff coming up!

I think the franchise-milking thing with LucasArts is now true to an extent, as they pour out Star Wars tie-ins. But if you're gonna include MI4 in that criticism, Sierra have been just as guilty of overdoing franchises - King's Quest 8, the Leisure Suit Larry non-adventure game thing, Police Quest SWAT or whatever.

In the golden days of adventure gaming, LucasArts were a far more creative company, probably the more creative out of the two. In fact they were originally founded on the principle that they would not make SW or Indy tie-in games, it was only later than they starting milking that (specifically Star Wars here, Indy hasn't been exploited to that ridiculous extent).

But back in the day, they were making a lot of interesting and original stuff all the time, rather than the odd gem in between a dozen SW tie-ins. I love Star Wars, but 90% of those games are crud with a capital C...the Knights Of The Old Republic RPG coming this year does look interesting though.

I've said a couple times that Pirate Fry 1 deserves so much more appreciation, it's a gem of a game. But I think the sequel will be one of the big boys of 2003, so that's gonna mean Squinky will get the kudos he deserves for his work. Maybe more people will play and like the original when Pirate Fry 2 comes out and kicks ass.

Quote from: Raggit on Fri 03/01/2003 18:06:41Quest for Glory is arguably one of the best adventure game series ever made.

I'm starting to agree with this, having started the games a short while ago. I've just begun QFG4, and I'm most impressed. I can't believe the series has just passed me by. I even put QFG2 in my personal top 10 adventure games in a thread on adventuregamers, such was the impression it made on me. To be honest I think the standards did drop slightly with QFG3, which is annoyingly buggy and doesn't really get that interesting til the end, but still a great game. Definitely the best Sierra games I've experienced.

QuoteI'm going to do my part of keeping peace between the companies and say Lucas is cool and Sierra is too.

I like Timostie's perspective. Why not enjoy both instead of trying to compete?

Exactly - that's the best thing, just have an open mind and appreciate the best of both worlds, and you'll have more adventure-gaming fun than otherwise.

LucasArts obviously had the talent AND the money for extremely good quality control, whereas Sierra were probably less at a liberty to polish everything so much, even though they had a lot of talent. I think Sierra produced a lot of adventure games at the same time whereas with LEC it seems they only ever developed a maximum of two games simultaneously, maybe that had something to do with it.

Yeah, you plummet into the acid, then it cuts back to Elaine and Guybrush hanging underground (as seen in the intro), and Guybrush says something like 'Just joking, this is what really happened...'. Nice touch.

Yeah, I just finished the original QFG2, awesome game. It'll be interesting to see it VGAerised by Tierra. I'm guessing that will be a faithful remake unlike KQ2VGA, as the story's pretty strong as it is...

I think it's that LucasArts are more character-driven, putting a lot of emphasis on dialogue, whereas Sierra games were more object-driven. The points tally in Sierra games was a different slant on the genre too. Also, Sierra games seem to have quite often been geared towards a big epic storyline (except for a couple like LSL), whereas with LucasArts the objective was often a bit less grand, or it seemed it to begin with and then escalated into something big (e.g. DoTT).

I always saw LEC as the superior company, with the more polished games, and for a time I was quite anti-Sierra, but I came to appreciate them. That was partly because I *needed* to Sierra games to tide me over, as LEC have tended to release adventures at least a year apart. That gap has now got even bigger, and I'm now playing Sierra games I never tried to fill the void, and being pleasantly surprised. I've recently been doing the Quest For Glory series, which is great (on #3 now).

My ultimate favourite-bands-ever list:
Weezer
The Beatles
Green Day
Foo Fighters
The Clash
Manic Street Preachers
Ben Folds Five

Stuff I'm quite into at the moment:
Metallica (mostly the later material, although they got some good earlier songs)
The Electric Soft Parade (got their debut album for Christmas, very good stuff)
Tenacious D

I really enjoyed the original demo, so I can't wait for the finished thing. I have to say I thought you and the game were gone for good, it's a nice surprise. :)

I enjoyed the game a lot, one of the best MAGS games I've played. I didn't even notice the way you'd made the game fit the competition's restrictions until after I'd played it. The red-green-greys colour scheme worked so well.

I played through three times, got Psychotic and Angel, presumably the two extremes, and then Neutral by being a mix of evil and good. Are there any more outcomes?

For a first AGS game it's great, in fact even if you'd made a couple before it, it's damn impressive.

Merry christmas! :)

Yeah, I've now finished it too, and I'd say it's by far the best game I've played in a couple of years! Adventure games are the only games that I really love playing, and there's been a shortage of great adventure games, but all the same, a wonderful achievement. It's right up there with Sierra's best. The way the plot worked was awesome, it drew me right in, and it was just full of satisfying moments...I won't go into detail about what parts I especially loved as others will play it and see for themselves, but it's packed with adventurey goodness...:)

I was inspired to go back and play King's Quest V again after playing this, couldn't get the sound to work though :(.

I liked Conquests Of The Longbow! I didn't think anyone else had played that game. I replayed it for the first time in ages recently, still a good game.
#176
Okay, I found it, cheers, back on track :)

Yeah, I can't find Possum's basket...I've exhausted all conversation topics with her and walked around a load of screens clicking on all the bushes and rocks now. Any help?

Holy crud, this game's really good. I've not really been a Sierra fan, and I've only played King's Quest V, VI, and VII out of that series, never King's Quest II. This is great though, looks awesome, and the puzzles are just the right level for me to enjoy it, challenging but not ridiculous.

Well done for a great game and an awesome achievement guys, I'll be downloading and playing your KQ1 VGA  as soon as I've finished this one :)

Ohh, Act One finished, cool! How many acts are there in the game?

I just played the demo, the graphics and animation have really impressed me. It felt professional everything, down to little details like the animating TV screen - that was great. Looking forward to this one :)
