Hey Cassiebsg =)

I think it's anything but crap! You've got some nice weathering to the stones, good overall ligting and it's all ready to just put in some context or a paintover. As for the 3d side of things, i would really recommend trying out Blender. It's completely free and I know several professionals who use it exclusively. It even has texture painting directly onto the model so there's no need to worry about being too prescious when laying out UV's and things. There're plenty of free tutorials on Youtube too that'll get you started.

Hope that's helped and hasn't just been a total "eh? what? Blender who?" kind of thing. Keep going though, please. I'm really anxious to see where you go with it!

@Amy - Thanks so much; it's very kind of you to say so! The jungle scene has changed a little and i'm currently at the suuuper long rendering stage. It's turning out to easily be the longest thing i've done yet (*ahem*not-counting-a-certain-piece-for-Monsieur-OUXX*ahem*). Are you having a crack at this month's comp? i think your pixel'ing looks fantastic and would love to see what you come up with :)

1st - Cassiebsg
2nd - Sox
3rd - selmiak

Really nice work, OUXX. The leaves look so labour-intensive and yet you managed to get them done in a tiny amount of time. Also, is that a downed nazi gyrocopter i see by the ligh of the setting sun? Excellent stuff :-D

There's still an awfully long way to go but i've got a feel for the lighting and composition now. I took a leaf out of Grundislav's book and really tried to push those "other ways" in and out of the scene. Anyway, here's a WIP:

There's still other things to add to the scene but, like i say, i just wanted to put something other than that grey 3d model into the discussion ;-D

@jwalt/@cassiebsg - nice interpretation on the theme =)
@Grundislav - i like how your pic really feels like an adventure game background. It has me thinking "i wonder where this raod leads to or that road leads to" well done!
@Sox - I'm really looking forward to seeing your lineart worked up. it's got so much potential and i'm itching to see where you go with it!
@Misj' - Aw, come on! That's lovely, is that! Of course, it's all about the bird xP
@ThreeOhFour - i know i've already commented on yours but i went back for another ogle. I ogled it good. Really nice, feelgood work.

Er, updates are coming on my entry... when i decide on a proper direction... The jungle thingy wasn't happening. I'm giving it another couple of days and then just working up whatever i have at that point. Hmmmm, wordy.

the 3D block in is done and i'm going to start the paintover tonight. Please bear in mind that this was done merely to place things in perspective and so i could tweak the plane's position without having to redraw everytime. There are a few more elements to the picture which i didn't need to model out.

With so many good entries, i thought i'd best get in and claim "Old plane hanging from a jungle tree" before some better did it. :-D

i'm not sure how one would win that particular award... although i fear a Miss-World-Judge-Bias-Sex-Scandal style whirlwind headed your way! (laugh) :-D (laugh)

this is all building up to be another excellent competition! I'm currently working on my 3d for the block in and am looiking to start painting soon =)))

That's bally lovely, that is. Fantastic work on the clouds and i love birds. They look clickable =D

@Adventuress - i played The Dig for the first time about a year ago and reeeeally recommend it. It felt like being a 10 year old again.
A 10 year old with a broadband connection and access to walkthroughs for the hard bits xD

F(ork)antastic work, you guys!

1. AprilSkies - beautiful and really convincing work!
2. Aikex222 - loving the understated nature of this =)
3. Mandle - straight out of left-field xD

OK, here goes!

Playability -
I'm going to say Cassiebsg because there are so many doors, avenues and places to explore in the one screen. I'd be pixelhunting for a good long while to try and find that one, secret door that i could walk to!

Artistic Execution - I have to say Monsieur OUXX. I mean, come on! It's soooooo pretty and i MUST HAVE IT!!what? erm... yes, ahem, i'm sorry, what? It's a beautiful testament to all the years training and all the days spent painstakingly putting it together.

Concept - Mandle - the thought of something rising out of the sea to be played but always with that feeling that it may descend at any time... yeah, i like that, so i do!

Everyone's put so much work in on this and it's been great to watch and take part in. The losses of data,, the races against time and the final-hour stay of execution to get the work done... The whole thing's been like a story in and of itself =) Thanks so much to aikex222 for creating a wonderful competition! :-D

Mucho congrats to Hobo on a well deserved win! Brilliant entry! Well dones to jwalt too for festive skills :-D

But thanks muchly most to AprilSkies for this comp, it was so much fun!

I think an extension would definitely be a good idea to give everyone a chance to realise their cities  ;-D

@Monsieur OUXX - 8-0 8-0 8-0 - stunning, simply stunning.
@Cassiebsg - Oh, i'd be walking around that environment thinking "who were these beings and where did they go?" Sort of like the same feeling i had when i played The Dig for the first time. There's kind of an eerie feeling about it - and the water is superb. I love the water!
@Mandle - gogogo! looking really nice and feels really good too. Really like something i'd want to play and explore =)
@Adventuress - seriously can't wait to see this finished =)

Ah, the wall! That's excellent! It reminds me of playing the Wild Bunch on the Spectrum 48k years ago... erm... although the game might not have had pictures...hmm.

1st - Blind Eye Lilly by Hobo - The backstory on this woman is just so evocative. She's dark skinned in the wild west and on the run. $250,000 sounds about right xD
2nd - NYARLATHOTEP by Mandle - because it's just mad and it made me smile and then laugh and then think of the early 90's, so there!
3rd - Swollen Eye Duck by Tabata - because i really lke the lateral thinking on the design but attention to the character's obvious criminal leanings. Makes me think of the Daffy Duck episode where he's in the west xD

Do we cast our votes now or is there a kind of official say so... or is there an extension hapenning that i've missed? Sorry, i'm new to these =)
#79
Aw, LostTrainDude, man.... that looks lovely. Just.. wow. Simple, atmospheric and.. have i said lovely?

I'm really intrigued to see where you take this!

Well, here is a weird sketch of what I maybe will be able to submit before the time limit:

That looks very exciting and nice camera angle, too! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you to get it done in time
