Jehovah's Witness averages pretty low, judging from the results.

No jokes.  I am one and I only got 72%.   :o

Guess what I went as!

Not very gamey though, I can't even think of any games with bears in them.

So, did I get this right?

Not really, it's in a big apartment block, so it's actually in another room that looks very similar to Latha's.

General Discussion / Re: Movie Suggestions?

Empire of the Sun.  I still can't believe that movie had Ben Stiller in it, it's actually quite good.

That's sort of a vague question I'm afraid.  It's like asking "What's better Vegemite or Marmite?" (That may have been a little non international).  All I can recommend is that you try playing a few games in both resolutions and see what you think is best.

For me personally, when I first started trying to make a game with AGS I started doing the art in 640x400, that proved to be a mistake for me and I realized that I much preferred a lower resolution.  I love the gritiness to it, the amazing ability of good pixel artists to make you see more than is really there.

As for the size of the character I recommend you first think about the game, what you're trying to achieve, how your GUI is going to work, how much each background will contain, all these will influence the look of your game.

P.S. Also I think CJ may be the one who did the Roger sprite.

Me too.  I hadn't considered the background much at all apparently, I do most do my spriting with a white background.  Eep.  I'll definitely  change it.

EDIT:

I've fiddled around a bit more with the colours and a few other things, I'm quite happy with it now,  Though I'm seriously considering not bothering with the portraits any more and using lucas arts style talking animations.  I like the hat too, thanks for the tip ProgZ.

Wicked edit ProgZ, I'll see I can make some changes based on your suggestions.

EDIT: I've done a little bit of adjustment to the standing sprite, it's still not quite there yet, I have to adjust the skin tone still but I'll do that when I do the portrait.

Just played the tech demo, very cool, I can't wait to see it all fleshed out with a story etc.  Everything is so polished it feels really professional especially with the sound.

The only thing I will say is that I found it annoying that I couldn't tell how I got the achievements.

Once again I'm asking for some advice.  I've come up with an idea that I really like for a game and I've been pixeling.

Here's my main character:

I've gone a lot lower res with my walking character than I have previously, but I generally like the look, plus I've always wanted to do a game with portraits.  He's a undercover agent/spy for the british goverment involved in finding people with "talents" (ie ESP etc) before and during the 2nd world war.

Are the sprites realistic enough for a game with a serious theme?  Do you think he looks appropriate for the character?  Does he look english? Do the sprites match?  Where can I improve on technique?

Very impressive, this game is getting better and better.  Is it a placeholder because you don't want us to see the "Monster"?  Because I'm quite happy to leave it as a surprise.

It's closing time boys and girls.  Well done everyone, there are some very nice entries here.

3rd place goes to Pinback, such a lovely sprite, the use of lighting in your art is second to none.  If it wasn't for it being unfinished then you would of got a silver for sure.

2nd place belongs to Culun_dog for a very grizzly looking Ben Grimm, talk about taking the complementary palette rule seriously.  Good concept and great finished sprite.

And without further ado, and without much surprise because let's face it there wasn't any more entries, 1st place goes to Sughly.  I love your style, it reminds me back to the days of watching cartoons in my pyjamas.

Congrats everyone and have a trophy.

Wow, so much activity in such a small amount of time.  Looking good by the way guys, it's always interesting to see what someone else does with an idea.  There is an amazing amount of blue and orange going on here.

I'm going to leave this open for another 28 hrs,  living in New Zealand means I'm kinda at the the beginning of the time zones so I'll close this when I get back from work on Monday.  Good luck everyone.

Only one more day or so before the end of the sprite jam!

It's not much of a competition at the moment.

Here's my attempt at a paint over.

What I did was change his shoulder shape so it was a bit more realistic, changed the shading in his face so there was more contrast, added some shape by shading and adding a dark colour and using the light colour a lot more in his jumper, used the light colour more in his trousers (Linked them up really, it was a bit blobby), changed the shape of his shoes and socks (Love em by the way, reminds me of Tintin), changed his hands so they were a bit bigger and the colours were a bit dark so I made them the same as his face and some other minor things.

All in all though my changes were very small, it's a great sprite, I would love to see you make a game with this character in it.

He's much less squinty in the animation.  I like squinty.

Looking good.   ;D  I actually thought superheroes would work well.

Here's the rules fellow AGSers:

1: Sprite must be of the protagonist whether the hero or the villain I don't mind but it needs to be the main character.

2: Colours have to follow a complementary palette.  It doesn't have to be exact, for example if you were to choose red and green, you can use blue/greens, yellow/greens, red/oranges, greys etc.

3: No restrictions on size or amount of colours, as long as it's AGS compatable.

Have fun boys and girls, sprites will be judged on how closely they follow the rules and skill.  Competition ends on the 31st of October, trophys for the winners!
