I like that little kid with the blonde hair's walking animation. Well done! To make them walk more naturally, you should make their limbs rotate more, instead of just moving.

Um, did you read the secret message on the scroll? Besides, it's an easter egg -- we didn't want it to confuse you and get in the way of the game.

"Little cheater" was just a joke. Please do not take it personally. :) Necro (who was the first one to solve the bonus puzzle) beat it without any hints or help.

Well, I recompiled the Apprentice 2 trailer and uploaded it on the server. Now it should work for those of you who had problems with it. Here's the url:

Not "puns", but they do sound rather strange when said quickly. :)

Spoiler

You get the blanket from the room with the tree by the cliff. You must first talk to the snake, and then you can take the blanket. Enjoy the secret bonus animation, you little cheater. :)

It's no problem for me to have it display, "walk to" when your cursor is not over a hotspot, and you're in the 'use with' mode. I didn't want left click to change back to walk-to just in case you slipped. But if all you guys really don't think that's a problem then I'll change it.

I think it has to do with character depth. You want a character rich with personality -- a believable character.

What do you mean, 'fall in love with'. Literally?

This works great, well done!
There's only one thing that could improve it (for me). When you're in 'use object with' mode and don't click on a hotspot/etc, it should change back to walk mode.
In any case, keep up the great work! :D

Actually, when you're in 'use object with', and you right-click on nothing, it switches to 'walk-to'.

All the exit hotspots are like that. How's the inventory interactions?

Did you notice also that if you click 'use' on an object and hover the cursor over the same object, it is a 'use' interaction rather than a 'use with' interaction?

Try 'Phantom of the Opera'. It's a good thing my computer didn't play the beginning cutscene (which uses live actors :P), or else I wouldn't have bothered playing it. It is a pretty good adventure game, and all the character animations are as smooth as heck!

Supposedly heck is pretty smooth...

So you got 2 bars of 12/4 there, eh? Nice job on the melody in the first part!

Hi,

We received several complaints regarding the interface in Apprentice 1, so we decided to 'fix up' the interface in Apprentice 2 -- even if totally rebuilding the interface was necessary. Well, that is just what I did. Here's the new interface I am proposing, based on advice and ideas from Mr. Colossal and Igor. C&C, please.

http://herculeaneffort.adventuredevelopers.com/app2gui.zip

Personally, I think the new GUI is easier to use. I already have it working and built into Apprentice 2, so if we decide to use this GUI, it's no extra work.

You probably know all this stuff about the time signatures -- it's pretty basic:

4/4 means there are 4 beats in a measure, hence the first '4'. The second '4' means that a quarter note is one beat long.

4/8 means an eighth note is one beat long.

As Peter says, the most basic time signature you can have is 1/1 (though, I've never seen it used before), then 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, etc.

3/3 technically does not exist as a time signature, because there is no note length without a dot that is 3 beats long. It just doesn't work that way.

My reply to BOYD was in humor. My apologies to anyone I may have confused. On with the contest!

Here's my entry: http://www.sonic.net/~schlae/herculeaneffort/crystalempire.mp3

Enjoy!

We need an award for everything! For example, "Assassination's Pick".
#1635
Wooh, 3/3 is such an awesome time signature! You must be pretty skilled to be able to compose music in 3/3. Wow!

Hints & Tips / Re:Secret puzzle in Apprentice

Oh, that is just not fair giving out the solution for the Secret Bonus Puzzle! Actually, if I remember correctly, some chap posted the entire solution on the Herculean Effort Forums a while back. I'll try to find the URL.

Sshhhhhh, DGM!

The man has a vision.

Version Number 3 stands for the Holy Trinity, 3 great monoteist religions of the world and number of eyes of a 3-eyed man.

The 40 weeks period clearly points to the number of days of Jesus Christ's fast on the desert.

Manual compiler signifies that, tied to our computers, we should not forget about manual labour (as Saint Joseph was a carpenter).

Cutscene Creator is a reflection of the False Demiurgus, the gnostic earthly deity who manufactures the material world, which is but a cutscene in our existence.

Automatic Updater, much like the spirit of an enlightened man, maintains a constant connection with the Motherlode of Ideas (heaven, simply put).

Hahahahah, this post is just too funny!

Thanks for the offer, but I need to recompile the App2 Trailer in the latest version of AGS. Maybe I'll also compress the sound some more so it'll take up less space.

If you want, you could upload Apprentice 1 (if you have the updated version, with the secret bonus puzzle) on the server for me. Big Brother's soul, eh? I'll think about that...

Thanks,

Geoffkhan

You can count me in!

Can we have those 2 bars of odd-meter repeat more than once in the entire song?

Also, the deadline seems a bit long... You might want to fix that typo. :)
