I haven't uploaded the Apprentice 2 trailer or Apprentice 1 to the website yet, but you can still download them in the 'Games' section on the AGS website. The links go to working mirrors.

All I had to do to get that webspace was to sell my soul, 50% of all the blood in my body, my kidneys, and various other organs to AdventureDevelopers (who in turn sell on Ebay, FYI). What a deal!

:) I knew my entry wasn't the attitude you were looking for this contest, but I had fun anyways! Dr. Funkenstein... hmmmm...

On to the next contest, and I'll try harder this time!

Mate, this looks great :D especially love daves expression behind the conveyor belt.
Looking forward to more  :)

It's that bored expression you get when you're doing some amazingly repetitive job for hours. Kinda like "Geoffkhan working on the scripting for Apprentice 2". Whoops, you didn't read that, Big Brother.

Back to work!

Can I vote for my own game?

Thank you Inkoddi and Densming for answering their questions. Herculean Effort Productions should be back up very soon. In the meantime, I will put a link to the walkthrough on the main "Herculean Effort - Down" page, along with the download mirror links.

Returning this current MOD pattern would be nice, also, but I was referring to the current line number. I will explain:

In a pattern, there are usually 32 or 64 lines. You assign instrument sounds to specific lines. When you play the MOD file, it simply runs from the first line to the last line, playing the sounds (or no sounds) on each line. I'm not certain 'line' is the correct term, but I hope you understand what I am referring to.

EDIT: It would also be nice to have a 'pause' and 'unpause' function for MOD-playing in AGS. Since their is so much potential in mod files, I believe they should be used to their fullest extent.

Redrum: You should be able to make your own custom setup program the writes to acsetup.ini. What you can do is open the INI in a text editor, and study the changes from using the normal AGS setup executable. Any program that can write to an external file should work excellently.

In my experience I dislike games made from movies because they are usually 'money-makers'. All those cheezy Star Wars games are just taxes on the fans.

Some games based loosely off of movies can be pretty good, though. Consider the Indiana Jones adventure games. It really just depends.

As CJ said, the latest AGS games are just getting better and better. I have high hopes for the games of 2004 and beyond.

I understand that AGS actually puts the ambient sounds into cache. Having four channels of ambient sound similtaneously might slow down a bit. :)

Nice! Getting that Indiana Jones style with the perfect perspective and straight lines well. Keep it up!

Don't really worry about shading if you're going for a 'cartoon look'. All you need is a little (not too much, mind you) anti-aliasing on the edges of the colors.

It's nice to start out small -- make a short practice game. But build up from there. Don't just make an enormous game after that. Remember, the more practice games you make, the better your 'real' game will be.

Good luck with your game!

Hi all,

I'm sure most of you heard how I took down the Herculean Effort website due to bandwidth issues. That was because I only get 30 megs of bandwidth a day and a gig a month, otherwise I get charged $4. That's especially bad considering we make free games.

Would anyone be willing to provide about 100 megs of webspace and about 10 gigs of bandwidth? All I need you to host are the downloads -- I can host the pages and images on my own webspace. PM me or email me at geoffkhan@mail2jazz.com if you're interested.

Thanks,

Geoffkhan

Having it remember the last cursor is a great idea! I'll have to experiment with that. Thanks!

Woohoo! "Except best documentation"... We'll work on it.

The stars make it look just like MI1, or kinda like Loom, also.

Awesome work!

If you read the readme file, you'd know that you can use the keyboard numbers 1-4 as a shortcut for the commands.

If you think Apprentice 1 is any good, my friend, just wait for Apprentice 2 -- which is 10x better!

So, anybody who wants to get some free money just has to make a "game company" and they can get a small portion of a donation, split between them all... :P

I'm not just talking about CJ in particular. For example, if you especially like a certain AGS game, you could send the company a little cash as a donation.

I occasionally have that problem also. It is related to when you use the emergency CTRL+ALT+END quit command. All you have to do is minimize everything else, and it'll still be on the screen. Click on it and it will return to the taskbar.

Okay, here's my entry:

The Cave of The Groove Monster

I can't help it, I've got a bad case of the grooves!
