Adventure Related Talk & Chat / AGS Donations
Mon 12/01/2004 21:58:06
I think it would be awesome if we could set up a service which would allow people to donate to AGS game companies. It would handle all the currency conversion issues and transfer all the money for a small percentage of the donations.

That way, for example, you could donate to companies like Screen 7 Entertainment, SOCKO! Entertainment, Herculean Effort Productions, and even CJ himself.

Anyone else thing this is a good idea?

I think I saw a similar thread on the HE forums.

In MI2, you have to 'take the sign' to get the shovel. Hmmm.....

Oh no, my avatar's gone! The website is down.

THE WORLD IS GOING TO END!

Well, maybe not, but for me it sure is.
#1664
Except for Steve, isn't anyone looking forward to Apprentice 2? Now I'm all depressed.

Okay, all I need to do is recompile the game in the newest version of AGS. The version I used (26rc1) had some little problems.

I needed to reupload it anways. I gotta find some free server like Freewebs to move it to. Yes, the download will be much slower than our main host, but considering the fees they charge for exceding the daily and monthly bandwidth...

Ever heard of Girls, jobs, sports???

Oh, he's heard of them all right. What amazes me is that he apparently chooses to ignore them. :)

Nice! I'm not sure I like the drums, though. That piano part is definitely awesome.

I'm sorry I keep posting on this topic, but here's another idea for the whole MOD thing. How about if there was a function to return the current line playing in the MOD file? That way you could time events to specific beats of the MOD, etc.
#1669
Matt, I used ags26rc1 for the trailer -- I was too lazy at the moment to upgrade to 2.6. I saw your post on the Technical Forum. As far as I can tell there shouldn't be any problem with the trailer itself. Weird.

Guybrush, in reply to your resource hacking for the setup program: Actually I have begun work on my own setup executable. Maybe I could upload it for all to use when I'm done.

What exactly do you change in the setup file?
#1671
I finally downloaded 2.6 yesterday, and already you've made bug fixes. I'll try to get a copy of this to test if I have time.

Good work!
#1672
Exactly, Ben. I really don't care about transposing tracks, but the tempo change would be great. Hey, take as much advantage of the MODs as you can. The other cool thing about them, is that in the long run, with a 10-20 minute song, they actually can take up less space than MP3s.

Have you ever heard the good MODs? You can certainly do a lot with them!
#1673
Evolve, yes I thought of that idea.

MODs can actually sound quite good. The main reason I would like to use them is because of how dynamic they can be. A tempo command would be awesome for a game idea I had. I'm sure everyone else could benefit from it, too.
#1674
Yeah, just start a new thread for the new contest. Think up some nice rules, etc.
#1675
Hey,

It'd be awesome if AGS could use the MOD files (or XMs) to their full extend. Is there any way you could implement a "SetTempo" function? Or maybe even a function to transpose different tracks in the MOD to different keys.

Thanks,

Geoffkhan

Ben: unfortunately, the effects are Sound Forge specific. I do have some pretty natty VST effects, though. Even some VST instruments I modeled myself. Could you use Soundfonts?

Anyways, good job, Berserkertrails. I will look forward to next contest!
#1677
Thanks. If you have Sound Forge 4.5 I could send you the effect.
#1678
We can make a separate thread for music-theory.

That reverb is actually my "garage band" reverb I made. Anyways, you can hear a real slap bass in this song. Heck with the music physics issues with synthesizing -- get the real instruments!
#1679
Geez, don't even bother arguing *ahem* discussing the physics of instruments. Although they are important, they have little to do with improving your compositions. It is interesting, but maybe this would be better suited in a separate thread. There's an idea.

Here's my entry:

Hmmm... I'm not really proud of the sitar or the trumpet. I was supposed to be working on the Apprentice 2 trailer then, and had little free time.

Apprentice II: The Continuation

The second chapter in the Apprentice series begins where the original left off. As the story continues, the black horse of war looms over the land, with the ominous Lord Ironcrow at the reins. Because Pib's apprenticeship makes him vulnerable to the military draft, attaining wizardhood becomes imperative.

From ocean diving to winning at the races, this adventure explores the land of Willowbean that lies beyond the Wizard's hill. New characters range from the Book Wyrm, a dragon-like being with a taste for literature, to Seacookie, the puniest contender at the centaur races.
Although we didn't make our Christmas deadline for its release (which turned out to be extremely optimistic, as the game boasts a design triple the length of the original), we managed to put together lots of animation, music, and scripting for this teaser trailer.

Unfortunately, due to our host's strict bandwidth rules, we can only offer this trailer for a limited time. If anyone has any ideas about alternate download servers, please PM Geoffkhan.
