Electric bass or organ may not be in Raga, but it sure is in Hindi Pop!

My entry will be uploaded shortly.

By 'percussion', he means a trap set or rhythmic percussion instruments. For example, a tabla or djembe would fit nicely.

I hope I'll have time to enter this contest!

Sounds good! If you need any help with Chinese writing or language, PM me.

You don't need to get everything absolutely correct and research THAT much, but just make sure things are believable. :)

I guess I'm just used to working on games where we research background material such as in Apprentice, where Big Brother looked at period clothing, etc. (heheh, not all one period, that is, but good enough)

Make 'em say 'Ni hao' (hello)  and 'Zai jian' (good-bye) when you talk to them. Please make it at least culturally accurate.

One word for you guys...

Without your votes, Pib will never become a wizard!

You can download the game here:
http://drevil.warpcore.org/ags/files/windows/apprentice/apprentice.zip

Also, this game has been translated into Italian!

You can visit the Herculean Effort Productions website at http://www.sonic.net/~schlae/herculeaneffort.

ScottDoom, if you're making a game like this, I'd suggest you learn a bit of the Chinese language first. At least download a Chinese dictionary like CEL or something. I also recommend the free NJStar Chinese word processor to get the characters and font right.

Either that, or make sure Gilbot doesn't play this game.

But it's the serious kind of silly, you see. :)

I actually like instrument restrictions such as those!

I might have time to enter this contest, hopefully. That is, if finish the Apprentice 2 Trailer before the contest ends.

The game is pretty good so far, although I'm stuck at one part.

Help would be most appreciated.

Spoiler
While imprisoned in the cell by the mechanical bounty hunter, I broke the light switch. This was intriguing, but it didn't really help me. I'm not sure how to reach the button(s) on the side of the cells. Any ideas?

Coming soon - tutorial on drawing the lap.

No kidding. If nobody else enters, maybe I'll whip up something in my spare time.

Possible bug:

There seems to be some issues importing characters into a game. If you import a character whose starting room was set to "-1", it actually tries to put him into Room-1.crm. Starting room "-1" usually means that the character is not in the game to start, right?

*sigh*

Should I move the deadline so you guys can spend a few more weeks talking? ;)

I know that not all midi cards sound the same. I think this competition can still work with midi, though. Take and instrument and do something with it that we won't expect..

Very well put. Even if General Midi it sounds different on different soundcards, General Midi will never cease to have bad sounding instruments.
#1694
Well, it's good to learn how to use samples and soundfonts and stuff, so your music sounds good in games. But I will say that it is also good to compose using General Midi also -- it's limiting soundwise, and teaches you how to make terrible instruments sound good.
#1695
Nice idea!

I had done something like that about a year ago, in which I took all the worst sounding soundfonts that I never used and made a song with them. Actually, it didn't even come close to "beautiful music". :)
#1696
I'm sure! I did last contest, and so I don't want to be a hog. :)

I just have a really fun time with these contests. It's great practice composing with rules. I am definitely learning a lot!
#1697
Thanks, Mods. Actually, since I already directed the last contest, could Ben do this next contest?

I know you don't need SB live or anything to run Synthedit. I'm not certain about Megafont. You just have to try it.

It would be most possible to make an RPG in AGS. Hey, I've made everything from action games to music notation programs in AGS!

You should probably use RPG Maker, though. It sounds like that is more geared to the type of game you want to make. It'd be easier in the long run.

I think cpage just about summed it all up.

Well, I was never into that CJ/JC thing, anyways. I wasn't really offended by it -- I merely shrugged it off.

Saying 'God' or synonyms is not bad. It's the attitude behind it.
