It might be a little unrelated to the topic, but in my country chickens always say "cock cock cock" ;) and nobody raises an eyebrow.

Sometimes the dialogue will just flash on the screen and flash right off before it can be read. This leads to my not knowing what is being said or what's going on in the game and I often have to restore to read the dialogue and sometimes restart the game to rectify this.

Has anyone else experienced this or know what causes it or what I can do to solve it?

Hmm, this sounds like the common problem in older AGS games, when the skipping dialog by key or click also made next line be skipped.
If this is the case, I know how to solve this in game script, but for the player, I can only recommend to skip carefully :)

Well, let me try to not skip any dialogue and see what happens. It seems that once it starts skipping then it won't stop unless I either reload the game (sometimes helps) or quit and restart.

Oh, and another thing that drives me crazy is that sometimes I simply cannot select items from inventory. It seems that scrolling through the inventory (even if I don't have items to the right or left) sometimes corrects this but that might be coincidence.

Thank you for the insight.

SHADOW

It's the first time I hear about the dialogue skipping, but the inventory bug is something that's plagued the game from day one... After restoring your saved game you have to click on one of the inventory arrows to unlock it. Pretty embarrassing, I know... This is one of the reasons Downfall is getting remade (other than the graphics, the typos, some cliched puzzled etc): back then I didn't have mOds to tell me that it's NOT okay to release such an unpolished game!;) I also didn't think it would get me anywhere... but it did;) And for that reason I will always be fond of it.

I hope you have fun with it;)

The NEW Downfall is evolving into a very different game - all dialogues are being re-written from scratch, all puzzles re-designed etc. This is the only way I could make it work with (upgraded) TCL interface. A proper GIP thread will appear at some point too ( I want it to have a video trailer and that takes time to do).

So since the remake will be more of a reboot, there should still be plenty to see there for those who played the old Downfall. It's not just HD version ;) It's more like a completely new game loosely based on the original. Does that make any sense?;) Anyway, you'll know when you see it;)

Thanks

Even the enemies look like that big chicken-legged robots that Robocop fought in the movie...

I'll join you in your Amiga references club;)

Looks good!

They all look guilty as fuck to me.

You know, all these years being a horror fan, I never got to know who Jack The Ripper REALLY was.

Perhaps I ought to, when this game is made;)

You guys are great:) I was just looking for this. Problem solved. Thank you"

What can I say, it's just one of those easy languages :P

Next up: Chinese! :-D

Maybe a heart attack?

A head-on collision with a lorry?

Drowning?

Kidnapped by aliens?

I can't think of any other reason someone would quit the community all of a sudden like that.

...but I'm not really sure what
If you're really bored, please record and post this Dutch line for me while trying to pronounce it:

"Zeven Schotse scheve schaatsers schaattsen scheef terwijl achtentachtig Scheveningers gingen gootjes scheppen aan het scheveningse strand."

(laugh) (roll)

Ha! I bet you thought I wouldn't do it!!!(nod)(laugh)

THERE!:)

For some reason I bought a pretty decent mic today and I'd like to record something, but I'm not really sure what. If you need a male voice actor (with a slight foreign accent;)) PM me. I'll have plenty of time during the next few weeks so I could do it pretty fast if needed. Thanks;)

My main argument against AVI is that (supposedly )they might not work for some players depending on their codecs.
#136
Loss in the quality? I've used ogv files for my new game (converted from avi using some first online converter I could find in 30 seconds searching for it) and noticed no quality drop whatsoever. And it works 100%. I mean, I'm no expert on this, but I've been experimenting with playing videos in AGS games lately and found it was fairly easy. Maybe you should try to convert them again using different software?...

I personally liked it maybe even more than MI. What an amazing character Manny Calavera was! (I sincerely hope they don't replace his voice actor for the remake).

Tank controls or not, this is one of the best adventure games ever.

Pearl Jam changed my life. I started playing rock music because of them with a band called... Harvester;) We even made a cover of Nothing As It Seems!

I'm very curious and excited about this! I'm not a big sci-fi fan but I'll give this one a try, since your previous games were so good.

Also, going through Matt Firth's portfolio... that guy's amazing!
