Is it a Playstation 2 game?

Sort of reminds me of Syphon Filter... but I don't think it's that.

I'm sure I played it at some point in my life...

Today died the second of my favourite painters, H.R. Giger. Now all of them are dead. :-[ The first one was Zbigniew BeksiЄski who, like Giger, also died tragically (he was murdered).

Giger's dead???.... Oh man, like you, I loved his art. And like you, I adored Beksinski (though I knew about his death for a long time now; what a way to go...)

I should really play Darkseed 2 sometimes, if only in his memory.

Slasher, Gribbler, Nikolas - thanks for your help. It's good to know that the general consensus is that the key would be okay (even if there's a 50:50 chance it wouldn't, it's still enough for an adventure game puzzle to make sense, right?;))

Ghost - thanks for going the extra mile and asking an expert! I am now fully reassured that I can safely go ahead with this scenario. And the other thing you mention about not being able to pick it up straight away... that's even better! What a great opportunity for another puzzle!;)

frenzykitty - nope, it's the same key in the same cat;) Just getting it out is different.

Well, it's definitely got to be in the furnace, not near it. The animal would just run away if it's wasn't locked inside.

And it's not the kind of furnace that's designed to melt metal- it's just for burning wood/coal for heating. Not some super-high temperature one.

Thanks for your help Slasher, but I'm still not sure... Any more ideas? - I tried to google it up but only found fat burning diets and gold melting tips...

I have a question regarding a game puzzle (I promise it's not something I would ever do in real life, I just need this for the story/puzzle to make sense).

Imagine a big basement furnace used for heating a house, something like the one in Saw II, or Nightmare On Elm Street films. Now, imagine a small animal with a metal object inside it. Let's say- a key. Finally, let's assume the furnace gets accidentally switched on and the animal dies burned to a crisp (or would it be ashes?...) The question is - will that metal object remain usable when it's retrieved from the body or will it melt/deform completely, rendering it useless?

Sorry for the wait - work...

Anyway, here's one of my favourite games (surprise surprise;) ) I looked for a screenshot that doesn't instantly give it away... but it can still be considered fairly easy:

Let's see if it takes you longer than 5 minutes to guess what it is;)

I am of the opinion that the "Believe in yourself" poster is the finest thing to appear in any game to date. Well done on that.
It's definitely up there with the "Fuck the police" poster :P

AGS has made me feel like someone.

Coming from a town in the middle of nowhere, with no higher education to maybe at least dream of a good job some day, I came to England and started a new life here with my girlfriend. That was almost 12 years ago. I've done all sorts of jobs in that time. I washed dishes in greasy kitchens of Yorkshire. I scrubbed toilets in run-down hotels of Devon . I delivered newspapers in London. I put piles of horseshit on wheelbarrows during my brief countryside adventure. I looked after crazy people. I've been bitten, spat on, bled on and scratched (only once by a horse though). And at the same time, I was there for a some good folks when their journey in this world came to an end because no one should ever die alone. And I made some people happy by just being kind to them, and yeah, those were times when I felt like I was someone, but it wasn't really someone I wanted to be, just someone I thought everyone should be in certain moments in life.

All through those years, I have pretty much felt small and insignificant, a cog in the machine, or even a part that this machine could easily work without. I've always had this person with a whip, standing above me, patronising, better than me. I've always had the rules to stick to, the good ones and the bad. The unfair rules- the ones that punish me if I get sick and won't think of me as a person because all I am is a number.

But... I don't feel any worse. I'm someone.

I've won a story of the year award.

I'm a Steam-published developer.

How cool is that?!:)

Now I know that one day I can be free from the man, break his goddamn whip and be my own person. The person I want to be.

Thanks AGS;)

I probably said it before, but if not: looks really nice, this one. Reminds me of Lone Survivor, which was a great game in its own rights.

One advice though- why not ditch that chapter structure and make a game that is a whole? Even if it ends on a cliffhanger of sorts, leaving an open path for a sequel- like Blackwell games? Every time I see some Game X: Chapter 1, I decide to pass. Half the time chapter 2 never gets made and I don't want to start something that I might never get closure on, or in case I get really into it would have to wait years for the next chapter to play.

The only exception here are TellTale games, since the chapters come out (or at least are supposed to come out) monthly.

That's my 2 cents... but I'm pretty sure I will play this one either way;)

General Discussion / Re: About length in games

I don't see long games being a problem (the only problem as I mentioned before is people's expectations for all games to be very long; clearly not you, though, janosbiro;)).

I guess you just have to do some research before you buy. I always do. Read a couple of reviews, see what folks say about it on the forums.

It's interesting you bring up Left 4 Dead- a game that at its basic level offers a 4-6 hour campaign, but when played as online multiplayer it extends pretty much into infinity. I've often met players who would make fun of me because my playtime was only at about 200 hours, while they played for more than 2000 hours... Which seems kinda insane that anyone would spend so much time playing a game about shooting zombies in the face. But they weren't bored of it, they wanted more and more and more, and in a way I understood, because that game when played right creates a new story every time you play and becomes incredibly addictive (I had to actually uninstall it twice, so I could get some work done on The Cat Lady and recently my new game in production;) ).

But the main thing is this- most play sessions would end after about an hour or so, when you finish a co-op campaign or a versus game. Perfect time to turn the PC off and go to bed or spend some time with a wife, right?

Unless you start a new lobby.

Again and again and again.

Some good points raised there. I agree fully that people's expectations are a bit over the top, since these days you pay more for a burger than an indie game, and nobody complains about the burger (which by the way it takes a few minutes to eat).

But most importantly, the best thing you said there janosbiro is that games are not drugs and living one fantasy for too long can actually be unhealthy. As someone who's recently played through all Dark Souls games I totally agree. When  you play one game for a REALLY long time, you do begin to wonder whether it's okay to actually have dreams about it. I mean, I've been killing dragons in my sleep, lately... and I'm starting to think it's time for a break;)

I remember Hideo Kojima saying that Metal Gear Solid 4 would be the last game in the franchise...

I personally wouldn't be surprised to see Joey and Rosa come back in the future;)

I don't really know how many mgs... The bottle says "low" haha It could be rat poison for all I know (though surely that would make me feel quite bad very quickly).

And yes, it's a massive money saver. I'm spending £5 a bottle, and like you said, it does last about a month. I mix menthol with Golden Virginia (since I used to smoke roll-ups with menthol filters). Every now and then you have to buy a new tank (or is it atomizer?), and they're about £3-5 for a cheap one. A nice quality tank I'm using now cost me £10 and it is supposed to last 3 months or so.
