General Discussion / Re: Dead Island Anyone?

I finished it yesterday, after 27 hours of total playtime (not all at once, overall). I think it was a really good solid game. The quests weren't that interesting, neither was the story... but there was something ablsolutely fascinating about exploring game's varied locations, so beautifuly realized and detailed, that it felt almost like being there... I will have fond memories of it;)

And why would you care about the sand castles?...  I'm sure they're already working on some sand-castle destroying simulator for Wii or Kinect for those who prefer that to zombies:)

Oh, I'm not really into these celebrity scandals...

I was also told I could become a Member if I draw the attention aw... oh dammit!...

If Dualnames is coming, I'd come as well.  ;D

I live in Exeter, Devon, so it'd take me probably 4-5 hours to get to London... I'm not sure where to get off the coach to get to that 'secret pub location', but I'm sure I'd manage somehow. Maybe I can get somebody to drive me?...

I think it's a really good idea. Like Mittens, but more serious I guess.

Also, I didn't know Mods was a Brit? ;)

I was thinking last night- is this thread gonna reactivate this weekend?... Should I post first?... ;)

I'm glad it did because it always makes me feel better to k now there are others who check this forum as often as me ( or probably more).

Hey, has anyone noticed the search function is back?;) Happy days!:)  - I should probably have used it to find how many times this has been mentioned already!

Being a twisted evil f***** that I am I half-expected a twist in the end in which Christian also invites them for dinner, and they're the dinner... But never mind, that was really nice;)
I thought the same thing too, Grim. You're not the only one! Especially coming from a guy who's avatar is a guy with blood streaming out of his nose, GAH.

Done.

Wow... That was very... American? ;) But definitely a better ending to this story- the evil of man knows no boundaries...  :P

It's really cheesy, isn't it?.... It's like Dr Who- can't decide whether it's for the kiddies or for the grown-ups.

I like to think  I'm a grown-up outside and a kid inside ( just a bit? anyway....) .... and I still don't like it.  Sorry... ;)

I'm a big Lost fan. Hell, I've got a complete series boxset to prove it! :) But to make a game based on it... it's just too much work. You might as well try making Old Testament: The Point & Click Adventure.

I think the animation is all right.

But I have one word for you: PARALLAX..... It would look so fricking awesome with a touch of PARALLAX!

Also, make sure you speed up that chap's walking- it's a major turn off for a lot of people to have slow walking characters like that. Onec you've seen the animation and the backgrounds it gets really boring when you have to spend hours trying to get from point A to B. This is not what games are about.... unless someone makes a game called "A Sunday Afternoon Stroll in the gardens while Nothing is Happening"..... ;) Seriously. I'd say double the speed.

You have definitely learnt a lot when it comes to art design. The graphics in this game are really very good quality :) I hope the story matches it! Good luck! ;D

I'd like to see a remake of, well, my recent number one game Unfolding Spider, and for one reason only- the graphics. Not to offend the author, I don't think the graphics are most important part of an adventure game but in this case, when the game is an almost dreamlike journey through memories and a world of imagination, this would actually be a great opportunity to show some beautiful strange art.

I even started myself- did one background so far... maybe I'll finish it someday, if Discordance won't mind?

I'd just like to add that synopsis of the game in the first post was actually what sold it to me. As soon as I read the first sentence, I was hooked, and willing to look past the simple graphics.

And Dual, if I hear Brazil one more time... I might even watch the damn thing at last ;)

Me too!  Not sure if it counts as a "win" though - would be good to know how many possible endings there are.

Enjoyed this a lot, even if I'm not 100% sure of all the story details.

I think this is not the kind of story that needs to be fully understood. It's there, it's a bit stange, like Lost Highway, and it just creates the impression that there is something bigger surrounding it, but there probably isn't. If we knew about it, the illusion would be destroyed and the whole thing just wouldn't be as much fun as it is now;)

I keep thinking about this game... I hope PC Gamer picks it up for review/DVD free version?

It was a real joy to play this beautiful game. I'm very impressed... Simply, one of the best AGS games in a long time, visually simplistic, but so wonderfully abstract and artistic that it doesn't matter at all that the characters are just few pixels stuck together, and the backgrounds are rather plain...

This game is a journey and I enjoyed every step of it. I think you deserve to be noticed for it because... it's honest, it's very clever, and it challenges the player in many new ways than we are not yet used to. Consider me a fan. Well done!

I loved the demo! Really funny stuff and fantastic voiceovers!

Make sure you rework the inventory items for the full game- they're the only thing that doesn't match the quality of the rest of the game. Other than that, I can't wait for the full game to see what's behind that gate!:)

And great job on the backgrounds, brother:)

Wait a second... Who the hell is Derek? There is no mention of such character above at all!  :o

I'd be more curious to play the most cliched adventure game ever.  You know, the one that recycles puzzles everyone else has done before and better.  Someone should make such a game, called Cliche Quest.  We could even make a contest of it.

OR- it could be SWARM's second project?... I know the Draculator II isn't even finished yet, and maybe the Swarm will never make more games... but it seems like something we should make using all our combined experience... Well it's just an idea, anyway. ;)

Wait, I just thought of another cliche! :) ----> finding crowbars on meteors in space... ;)

You know, I can't think of a single mainstream adventure game that ever used the newspaper under the door thing...perhaps I haven't played enough :D

off the top of my head:

Alone in the Dark 2
Back to the Future
The Whispered World

How about... Downfall?... ;) I'll go and sit in the corner now, shall I?... ;)
