Played it last night and really liked it.

I lost. Got submerged and drowned... And I was nearly there...:)
I have to say I really like this replayable timed game structure. The only thing that doesn't quite add up is janitor's fairly happy attitude when faced with... death. He might be just this laid back positive person, I suppose... but I think most people in these circumstances would panic more.

I will definitely try again- and this time I will survive:)

  Thanks!

I think I encountered a nasty bug when using copy/paste loop option....

Seemingly, the loop gets copied and frames show sprites like they should on the screen. But when I go into preview mode, loop 2 contains no frames... Nothing at all. You can see here:

Game crashes too, with an error of: loop 2 does not contain any frames.

It seemed like such a cool option but is clearly broken... I'm reporting it here, as requested by CJ.

Hey, I'm using the latest version of AGS 3.2.1 and I think I encountered a nasty bug when using copy/paste loop option....

Seemingly, the loop gets copied and frames show sprites like they should on the screen. But when I go into preview mode, loop 2 contains no frames... Nothing at all. You can see here:

Any idea what's going on with copy/paste? It seemed like such a cool option but is clearly broken... or maybe I'm just doing something really stupid... Please help.

I just whipped out another quick McCarthy fan-art poster  (with hadouken):

Oh... I guess I wasted some time then, saving each file in different format and cropping blue edges of the sprites....

That's a shame. I guess it means it will be quite a large game, then. When it's finished it will be probably a 500mb Zip download. Is it actually putting people off when they have to download such a large file? I mean, Monkey Island 2 SE was 1.1 GB (on PS3), so I'm thinking maybe at this day and age it's becoming more acceptable?...

Reimporting the sprite files as a different format will have no effect.

AGS saves sprites in its own internal format regardless of the format you import them.

Fair enough. What about the cropping? Shouldn't that make it smaller?

Maybe the AGS version you are using (< v3.2)

I'm using 3.1.1. WIll upgrading resolve this problem?...

Hi,

I've done my research befre posting but I still can't find the answer...

As my game grows bigger and bigger I've gone back to large un-cropped sptites I used in the beginning and saved them as much smaller cropped png files instead of bmp. I thought it would make a significant difference, since the old file size of 1.3 mb on average for one spite has now come down to 15-20 kb.... But after replacing sprites in the editor the size of the game stays exactly the same.

Having read the other posts I made sure I had "compress the sprite file" option enabled ( it was from the start anyway), added one new sprite, rebuilt game files several times, compiled, tried to split resource files into X mb chunks.... and no change. I thought that even if sprite format wouldn't make any difference, at least cropping the sprite from 800x600 to 200x600 would make the game smaller. But no. It doesn't.

What am I doing wrong?

Good music

What music do you like, by the way, Icey? I mean, what is the all time ultimate inspirational greatest album that helps mind focus on making games and all things AGS?

I know Dualnames will say Pink Floyd: The Dark Side Of The Moon. So I thought I'd save him typing that....
I tried that album and it does n othing for me. It actually bored my slightly.... I know, herecy to some, but there you go.

So, really, I wanted to find out what genre of music Icey is into, and why. Then I added all that other stuff to cover that up.... ;) Anyway, I better go make a coffee, smoke some fags, listen to some Boxer Rebellion and make that long-overdue background 84... :)

Three coffees and a couple of cigarettes seem to do it for me... Not recommened. 8)

Haha cigarettes are the worst way to get anything done.

I'd probably be a multi-millionare by now who's fluent in 37 languages if I didn't smoke haha.

The beauty of the PC mouse is that you can smoke AND use mouse in the same time!

I smoke in the kitchen window these days, though....  8)

Very nice game. Loved the graphics, as usual, the animations and the atmosphere. My only- really- criticism, is that there is too much chatter right from the start. It might be a matter of personal taste, but I think I would've prefered it if the story was introduced in less words and more...erm, action? But apart from this- excellent, Ben. Thank you! ;D

I appriciate a game with cat in the title! Btw, the link in your signature doesn't work.

Hey- and you're a lady, too! :)

Thanks for the info about link- I guess I forgot to pay the host... Oh, well, I'll do it tomorrow:)

I'm very sorry about your cat.....

I really like your cat's name, though. Will it be totally inapropriate if I called a cat in my game Tuqu? I mean, in a way, he would become immortalised in a medium that is close to your heart... ( although I strongly believe cats have nine lives and Tuqu is alright, and even if he got... eaten... he has probably just began a new life somewhere, maybe not far from you). I have a whole cool plotline set around this really clever cat, originally called Midnight, but a while ago I discovered that this was the name of a cat in The Catwoman film- so I can't use it.

Sorry for not being very helpful... but please let me know what you think about the idea. I'd call it a tribute to your little missing friend.

Thanks for the comments:)

But I really think TCL looks much better in action than still images- one of the reasons being the amazing Tween module I've been using a lot and now can't imagine working without it. And, of course, the discovery of alpha channels... ;)

When the next trailer is out before the release of the game, I'm hoping for this sort of reaction:

Now I'm beginning to work on the cats animation- the moment I've been dreading for a long time- as much as I love cats, this is going to be very difficult, I think. But, obviously, cats are necessary in a game with a "cat" in the title, so I better get to it. I might post a cat sprite later:)

Oh! And I really fancied playing a proper adventure game today! Sometimes wishes just come true.... [downloading]

[EDIT] Hey, I'm first one to post! I have no doubt this will be a long thread... ;)

Apparently for years now Randy Sluganski - the creator and owner of Just Adventure - has been battling cancer. He had some temporary success, but as I understand it the situation has lately become much more serious.

Yeah, I knew about that... Such a shame- Randy is a great guy. I really hope he gets better.....

Loved it. What an amazing experiece! One of my favourite games EVER.

EDIT: Last night after having few drinks I asked my grilfriend/partner to play Focality. As the game asks some very personal questions I sat a bit further away, not looking at the screen, but still being able to see her reactions. After few minutes I noticed she just sat there, staring at the screen of her laptop. Then I realized
Spoiler
that when game asked her to show how long she will wait, she really took it to heart and probably would have waited for another hour if I didn't say anything... I find it a great metaphor to life- waiting for something, like some do, not realizing that nothing will happen if we don't MAKE it happen... and then comes that reply, like a slap in the face...
[close]

In the end, she felt very strongly about the game's message. I think it's absolutely amazing that something so very simple can make people experience emotions like this... even if they're negative emotions, this is not something you will ever get from playing all those bloody triple A games. Honestly, Focality was like speaking to your own subconciousness. Well done.
