This came up for an object with PxPos set for 1....
#622
I've just started using it and I really like it!

I encountered a problem though... If the value of PxPos is below 3 an error comes up and game crashes. It seems that 3 and above displays fine, but it's really moving quite fast... I tweaked targetScrollSpeed because it was too slow and it's now 40... but I don't think that would affect anything, would it?

Also, the game is keyboard controlled in res 800:600.

EDIT: Same for - values.-1, -2 crash the game and -3 makes object practically follow character on the screen like a dog on the leash....

Wonderful game, but very short. I can totally see the whole Another World thing going on:) I hope you are working on a sequel!

I'm using Maxon 4D Cinema. It seems scary at first but once you get to know it, it's a pusscat:)

You and Lucas are friends?!?!?

Let me get this straight, you produce a game, use his real name, and make it perfectly clear that his book's only virute is that in a pinch is can be used as a substitute for toilet paper?!

Yeah, well.... ;D He didn't mind. I guess I'm a crap friend:)

Grim,

Exactly what would have transpired if you had actively DISLIKED the guy?

P.S.  On a completely different note, thanks for introducing me to the word "stroppy".

You know that scene in Downfall

where Mr Harris gets cut in two after explosion in the bathroom and his legs and torso end up in two different rooms?

I know one Mr Harris, and he's definitely no friend of mine..... 8)

As for the word "stroppy"- you're welcome.  ;DMaybe we should open a thread somewhere about funny English words?  ;D

Just finished it. Here's what I think.

For a big fan of Douglas Adams' literature like me it was a truly great experience to revisit places and events from the book. I think you have captured the HHGTG absurd and abstract world very well and pretty much how I imagined it in my head. The humour never fails and the game is incredibly funny- and very clever- most of the time.
Graphically it's great and there's a real variety to backgrounds and characters. I'm used to your art style now and I think it suits the game perfectly. As a matter of fact, from now on whenever I will think of HHGTG I will probably have the image of your Arthur Dent imprinted in my head:)
  My favourite part is definitely
Spoiler
the foggy planet with where man-eating frog lives and all of the stuff going on on Earth before it gets destroyed

.

Something needs to be said about the puzzles, though... I know it's a remake and you were sticking faithfully to the original puzzles from the text game but I found them incredibly hard! Maybe I'm just not that good at adventure games after all but I don't think I'd ever be able to finish it without the walkthrough. In most cases- when I referred to the walkthrough- it was like: Damn, why didn't I think of that! But there were also cases when I knew I'd never figure some stuff out on my own:
Spoiler
putting fluff in the toolbox, the whole atomic plotter thing, giving cheese sandwich to Arthur- I just kept thinking- why the fuck do they keep dying?
[close]
That being said, I understand the absurdity of some puzzles was meant to reflect the crazy Monthy Python-like sense of humour from the book and I'm sure hardcore adventure game players will see it as a great challange ( that they can crack in one afternoon). I swear to God I didn't want to resort to Leon's walkthrough but after a while I just felt helpless... and very tempted.

I actually liked the music as it is in current form! I've been told that Xenogia works on some tracks for the next version of the game and I'm sure they'll be awesome, but all through the game I never felt like anything was lacking.

Also, I didn't mind the difficult inteface- I thought it was pretty good, once I learned how it worked- it didn't take me more than half an hour to know where everything was. I think it made H2G2 very special, one of a kind game.

To sum it up, I enjoyed H2G2 a lot! My only concern is the crazy difficulty level... but in the end it only makes the experience last longer :P I suppose most of AGSers won't struggle as much as me.  I think it's a beautiful, complex and well-built game and definitely worth waiting 400 years it took to make it:)

Well... Thanks Alex_ASP, I suppose that makes me feel a bit better:) I guess I overreacted. Anyway, I am very happy that a lot of people got to play my game and it's all good for the future business.:)

Disregarding Crimson's post, I have to ask an important question here- what about black liquorice allsorts? It's absolutely disgusting and I know people who love it... ::)

You don't really:) I'm happy to send a new version to those who have bought version 1.4 in the past. PM me.

Sweet Jesus.... I wish you hadn't told me that. :o I feel like I've been raped by an intergalactic buldozer....

I'm learning some very important lessons for the future here ( while imagining Akella's management driving their brand new BMWs).

Jesus!!!.... :( :o :'( Intelectual property is worth fucking nothing these days...

Oh, one last thing. Downfall has taken Russia by storm and has now sold nearly 10.000 copies over there! :)

Does this mean you've made $100,000 in Russia alone? Wow!

Nah, I wish. It doesn't work like this, unfortunately. Developer only gets a percentage of the price. And in Russia games come really cheap ( compared to the rest of the world). If I sold that many units in UK or USA I would be rich now.... but here I am, still in my day job and on overdraft by the end of each month.

This is most unprofessional to discuss these things, I know. But for all of you who are planning to have a go at a commercial release you should know the market is tough and the middleman always takes his share, usually more than they should.

Wow, Gwizz.... I think this is the biggest compliment a bedroom game developer can get. Thank you.

I feel the same about today's gaming industry. It has become this soul-less cold machine only trying to produce what some rich bastards in black suits think will sell, never really considering people like us, who were brought up playing games when they were still a work of passion. Games used to be something very different, really.... You never knew what to expect.

I am nearly 30 too. I started playing games when I was about 9. I remember my dad bringing home this big sack with Commodore 64 in it and a load of tapes....:) I hardly ever feel this happy playing modern triple A blockbusters, although I still play them, maybe out of habit?

It makes me feel quite proud now that my game persuaded you to buy a legal copy even after you've played it:) And, of course, that you signed up to this forum to share your thoughts- I hope you will stick around and get to know this great community of people. Maybe you will even have a go at making a game yourself?:)

Thanks again:) You made me day. Honestly:)

Hello Lucas.

Thank you for your game, I ll try to end it as soon as I can get some spare time.

Besides it looks great ( reading other comments ) , I feel a little disappointed about your GUI, inventory and most of the sprite looks jammed on my computer. If this a issue, done or purpose or didnt you polish your game enough ?

Regards.

Piotr

Hi:) But my name isn't Lucas! Lucas is the main character of the game- and an old mate of mine who always aspired to be a horror writer but was a bit of a mammy's boy instead.
Anyway, I agree with the GUI and sprite comment- they suck badly. Half-assed GUI was the best I could do in 5 minutes I had in between other jobs. Sprites, on the other hand, didn't survive the resolution change and look.... odd. But hey, this game isn't about sprites. It's about a serious psychological take on a life of a person facing a sudden loss of his parrot and falling in love with a swearing nun who seems to be the only woman willing to take him seriously..... :P

The game was polished with a chainsaw. That's why it's a bit rough 'round the edges:)

Oh, nice!!!:)

I wonder if it's got something to do with Downfall's recent release on GAMERSGATE ?:)

EDIT: I nearly forgot to mention- GamersGate now sells version 2.0 of Downfall, "Dualnames" Edition. Dual, being a good friend that he is, offered to fix some major technical issues that plagued the game. Now, the save-load-quit icons no longer appear on the right side of the screen during the game, but are instead built-in into top inventory bar. Inventory bar has also been fixed and works much better. Also, save-load GUIs received a makeover:)
A number of bugs have been fixed too. No more multiplying shotguns and characters refusing to follow. Some animations have been updated too ( knocking on room 102 door etc). Also, text is displayed now in bigger clearer fonts.

Thanks Dualnames!!!

The game should also make an appearance on Impulse portal any day now.

Oh, one last thing. Downfall has taken Russia by storm and has now sold nearly 10.000 copies over there! :)

Playing as Ford I did everything I was supposed to do, including giving Arthur the fluff ( which I think was quite ridiculous) and I still get the game over screen when the ship arrives.... What have I missed? I even read Leon's walkthrough and it all seems fine... but I die anyway. Am I supposed to do something witht the damn dog? Oh, God, it's making me quite confused...... Please help...

Use antenna from Lucas' room to lockpick door upstairs in Youth Centre. From there you can get crowbar and use it to open the drawer. The ID needs Lucas' photo on it and the photo is in that very drawer. You willl also need to find a way to glue it to the ID...

Finished.

I honestly thought this game would be so hard no one would ever finish it....:) Kudos to you, Leon!:) You are a great adventure game mastermind after all:) And thanks for the comment! Also, I know this is no excuse, but this game was made more than 7 years ago. I was still just a kid!!!:)

This months MAGS entry, and my first ever game....
A month ago I found the original version on a dusty CD tucked away in the darkest drawer.... and I thought I'd try to make it into something half-decent. It's possible that I failed.... :P But anyway, it will always be a special game for me. Made at that strange time of my life when changes were coming, it was my way of saying goodbye to the life I was leaving behind.

Even though I spent nearly a month trying to make it prettier, repainting all the shitty graphics and translating it to English I am fully aware it might be quite embarassing at times. But maybe for those of you who played Downfall maybe it will be interesting to see how it was born from this strange medley of ideas?

There's only one man who can help him.
His name is Grim.

FEATURES:
-320:240 resolution
-swearing nuns and perverted police officers
-bad jokes about feaces and urine
-low quality sprites that didn't make it over the years
