Just a small update: a new trailer is coming, as well as a major announcement! (Hint: it rhymes with "police gate")

Meanwhile, here's a couple more screenshots.

No game is complete without a sewer level

Being a private investigator means facing resistance from the police.

I only just judged the games this past Saturday, one day after recording the podcast! Besides, since the results won't be announced until the 30th, I didn't think it would be fair to talk about them prematurely. Maybe we should have held off on doing the episode, or maybe we can do a followup next time.

Hey, it's been a while, but we're back!

Episode 119

Game jams!

A little update: the game is now in another round of beta and is fully art asset complete. Currently I'm editing all the VO as well as lip syncing, so there's still a bit left, but hoping to release very soon!  Stay tuned for more info.

In the meantime, here's a new screenshot:

Oh, it will be released, don't worry! There's no need to let go :)

Also here's another art stream where I do some rotoscoped animation.

Sorry for the triple post, but here's a blog entry I wrote explaining what I mean when I say that Lamplight City is a detective game where failure is okay: http://agwspeakeasy.blogspot.com/2018/04/lamplight-city-detective-game-where-its.html

(...wait, edit:  how many rooms are there, now that you've finished them all? (and congrats on that!))

There are 111 rooms. Definitely the biggest game I've ever made!

Nah, the character isn't Asian, and he's only talking that way because he's very high :)

Here's a fresh batch of screenshots:

All backgrounds are now finished! This was the last one. Getting ever closer to getting this game done.

It wouldn't truly be a detective game without a puzzle involving guessing someone's combination.

Easiest way to do this is to create a GUI. Call it something like "gHotSpotLabel" and create a blank label over it.

Then, in your game's repeatedly_execute_always, put in Label1.Text = Game.GetLocationName(mouse.x, mouse.y); (Where "Label1" is the name of your label)

Hope that helps!

Episode 115

Complex protagonists vs story non-linearity: why you can't have both (or can you?) Also, why are adventure game protagonists such assholes?

Did another art stream! Get a glimpse into the process of rotoscoping.

Implementing some environmental effects to bring a scene to life! Pardon the awful GIF compression :)

We are planning to get some international comedians to tell us some non-British stories. How famous is Storsjöodjuret in Sweden? Is she Loch Ness Monster level, or more obscure? Because we like obscure!

Do you accept international game devs? Because I could tell you some weird stories about Florida, and not just the Skunk Ape!
