Completed Game Announcements / Re: Nanobots
Sat 28/06/2008 00:51:59
That was great!  Well worth the wait.

There were a couple of bugs where the bots walked on areas that weren't walkable areas, but it was a minor thing in an otherwise fantastic little game!

I want my own set of Nanobots now.

I downloaded and finished this last night.  I was very impressed with the fact that it was voiced, and that the voices were actually really good!

The game itself was a lot of fun.  I have to admit that when I first started playing the story felt kind of slow, and I wasn't sure I'd stick with it, but the more I played the more involved I got with the plot.  It really picked up after leaving L.A.

The gameplay was really nice, not too difficult, and the notes were always there to provide a hint.  I didn't really get stuck, but I also didn't think the game was too easy.  You got a great balance of difficulty.

Also the art style was really nice.  The animations were smooth and very well done, and the cutscenes were great too.  It was really cool to see a moving Shag painting.  Also, I laughed at the blue cup in the police station, especially since the game is made with Wintermute!

There was only one thing that struck me as a bit odd:
Spoiler
The fact that Baxter flew from LA to Vegas rather than drove.  I guess the airport was necessary for the puzzles, but it seems more practical to drive between the two cities.  But maybe that's just me!

Ok, so I had a thought:

We're going to be about 24 people this year, which is going to be the largest Mittens so far.  The last Mittens to have nearly as many people was 2006 in Benidorm, and one of the main complaints there was that there was a great deal of disorganization.

It's true that it's very hard to organize such a large group, and undoubtedly there are going to be groups forming and going off to do other things.  Also, there are instances where people all want to do something but it takes forever to get going because more and more people join after finding out the plans later, causing a delay as they get ready or whatever.

So, in order to cut down on annoyance/disappointment, I offer a proposal - a bulletin board.

I suggest we pick an area of the chateau and designate it as the "Activity Center" where we can place a board or a paper or something to write on each day that lists any group activities, so everyone is on the same page as far as what's going on.

For instance, let's say people want to go into town in the evening.  They would write the time they plan on going and the general location.  That way, anyone wanting to go along can meet up and go, and anyone who feels like going later/doesn't find out in time can know where everyone else is in case they want to attend afterwards.  If there is an all day event planned, like a trip to Paris, then we can have a sign up time the day before so everyone knows about it well in advance.

I figure this system will cut down on confusion and hopefully allow everyone to know what's going on.

Thoughts?

Congrats, Dave!  They grow up so fast...  :'(

Dishwashing? At Mittens?  That usually happens on the last day before we have to clean up or get charged extra!

I personally liked the Broken Sword games, although the first one will always be my favorite.  Yes, George Stobbart is sort of a vanilla character, but the first game was cool because it felt like it could actually happen in real life.

Broken Sword 2 introduced the whole supernatural thing and had a very weak ending, a trend which unfortunately continued throughout the rest of the series.  Broken Sword 3 was pretty weak, and Broken Sword 4 seemed like it was an improvement until it was apparent that it was buggy and that the ending was horrible.

Oh boy! It's done!

Well, the game is fully playable and in beta, anyway.

So, the next couple of months will be dedicated to recording voices and getting music and animations done.

Which means that with Mittens on August 15th, I am going to take a risk and hopefully deliver on my promise:

The game will be released on August 12, 2008.

I agree the dialogue was hilarious and it was one of the best games to come out of the RON scene in quite a while...

...but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't semi-disturbed by seeing Guido's man-parts.

They only drive on the crazy side of the road in the UK.  The rest of Europe is normal.

Layabout gets up close and personal with the Skunk-Ape.

That was quite possibly the best thing I've ever heard.

General Discussion / Re: Landmark Posts

Does frequency count as a landmark too?  I noticed you've accumulated your 1000 posts in a little over a year, which is pretty commendable.

Now, for the record, this is my 680th post...

...in 7 years!

Nice interview!

I can't believe you guys mentioned The Crackwell Legacy.  ;D

Also, is it just me or does notwithabang sound eerily like Christopher Walken at times?

I should point out that AGS Show 0 was written by MillsJROSS and merely performed by me, so all those terrible puns are his!

Also, I have the Benidorm AGS Show...

There's been only one attempt so far, last year.  The dates were switched around a few times, and the location was moved from Las Vegas to Atlantic City.  All in all it was a huge fiasco.  We'll see if this year proves any different.

The basic idea could be a little cliché, yes.  However, you have plenty of room to add some unique elements to the story and make it original.

As Francisco is no bigger than a midget, why can't he travel in the middle?

I'll kill you!  >:(

Go to court.

More than likely the officer won't even show up and then you'll be clear.
