Messages - Ha Ha I am OK

A long time ago, I started a topic where I complained of a virus that my computer had gotten.  Many people gave great suggestions and I tried all of them.  Unfortunately, none of them worked.  So I got a new computer.  It's much better than my old laptop and I'm looking forward to redrawing every single room, character, menu, and whatever else I need for the game  that I was working on.   That's because the other computer doesn't have USB ports (I broke them all) and cannot connect to the internet or a network or write CD's.

Does anyone know of a way for me to get anything back?  I have half of my game done and that took me almost 8 months to do.  Please, if anyone can help, I will greatly appreciate it.

[EDIT]  Ok... people have been asking about the USB ports; they're broken physically - one came loose and the other just fell out.  I like the idea of sticking the HD into another laptop (It's a laptop, by the way) that has USB ports and just using that.  I also like the idea of the HD-USB adapters: I think I'll try that first.  Thank you everyone who has replied, you've been a big help.  I'll get back to you if I'm still having problems or if I fix it.

General Discussion / speaking of viruses...
Sat 14/03/2009 19:00:43

I haven't had an anti-virus program installed on my computer for about six or seven months now.  I've been putting off getting a new one until I have the money, but now I'm getting worried.  I think I might have gotten a virus of some sort because my computer has been acting up.  Does anyone know of a good free anti-virus program I can get?

Hey, I was just wondering if there are any war veterans on these forums.

I want to interview someone on a war or conflict that America has participated in during the 1900s.  The Korean War or Vietnam War would be best but anything else would be great.  PM me if you are a veteran or know a veteran that won't mind answering questions about their experience.  This will be done via email and will help me a lot with my project.

Once again, just PM me and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

 Hey everybody,

After several months of thinking about a game with monkey island 1 graphics, I finally got to work.  This is what I ended up with.

It is a nighttime view of an old creepy circus.  I am particularly happy with the wall, mountain range, and sky.

Does the ground in front of the wall, including the path, look good?

My main problem is the coloring.  Do the colors seem fine, or should I recolor parts of it?

Does it have that MI feel?

I am thankful for any suggestions.

*EDIT*

I changed the gate and made the path plain black.

Does it look better?

I also added the old Guybrush sprite for sizing (I don't have a sprite of my own yet).

Layabout, I made the door of the ticket booth smaller.
I personally think that the ticket booth and gate are a good size now.

Finally, since this is the view from the inside of the circus, there isn't much I can do to make it look more "circus-y"

Again, I am thankful for any and all suggestions.

That was awesome!

I loved the thing beginning to end and the animation was perfect.

Great job!

General Discussion / Monkey Island 4
Wed 11/10/2006 05:14:29
I'm not sure this goes in this section, but...

I did not like Monkey Island 4.

I think that because they got rid of that 2D-point-and-click-iness, the game is just not Monkey Island like anymore.  It's almost as if they just made a game with a plot and characters similar to the ones in 1-3.

Am I wrong to think that?

I just think that if they kept it 2D it could have been better.  It would feel more authentic.
Sadly,  people would much rather play a game adventure that doesn't lack a third dimension.

My question: Why?

But I'm getting off topic.

Another thing that i don't like about MI4 is that you have to get Guybrush uncomfortably close to something in order to interact with it.

In the older ones you just had to click on an object (or person, area, etc) and Guybrush "magically" walks over there by himself.

Did he get dumber or something?

I don't know...

What do you guys think?

Here are some ideas for using items on something.

"uhh.... is that legal?"
"I think that would be painful"
"How would that even work?"
"Uhh... not now.  My leg still hurts"
"If my mother saw me doing that..."
"If anyone saw me doing that..."
"I would...but....no"
"NO....just...no"

For talking to inanimate objects.

"my phyciatrist says not to do that anymore"
"do you even know WHAT you're asking me to do?"
"For the sake of sanity....no"
"Uhh....is that legal?"

For looking at stuff.

"It's a(n) [object]"
"It's me [object]"
"It's not me [object]"
"It's a(n) [object] in me [other object]"
"It is a well-crafted [object]"
"It's a somewhat painfull-looking [object]"
"[adjective]...isn't it?"
"uhh....is that legal?"

Hope this helps.

Can anyone host the animation challenge for me.

I would do it myself but I have a lot of work and simply don't have time.

if anyone is willing to do it i would appreciate it.

It's a quick sketch of the roof of a house by the sea.
It's not very detailed but it has a big walking area.

I'm not that great at giving advice on artwork.
but I will say this.
It is much better than what I can draw.

Also, I think the second tree look fine. it just needs a little detail.

Critics' Lounge / Re: plot up for c&c
Fri 23/06/2006 23:55:37
well, my plot isn't really made for a hugely long game.
maybe for something that would last a few hours.

I threw the pirate costume in just for fun and i didn't really think the death of the robot overlord all the way through yet.
I might add some other things that would make the game more logical and playable.

right now I'm just playing with the whole idea of some insane dude in the future.
