I didn't make the cut  :(

Beans, Beans good for your heart, the more you eat the more you... wish you'd taken the time to grind them down and make proper coffee.

Hmm... I like Monsieurs scarf idea, although could use a catchier name... i suggest but recommend none of these:
Peace scarf,
Flower power scarf,
Woodstock 1969 scarf,
Jimi-Hendrix's-purple-hazed-LSD-headband scarf... but this would actually be a headband?

Monsieur! I do believe you would be right regarding the sword (in all honesty the sword tip was a bit of an afterthought i bunged in just before i posted the original images) - of course... it may not actually be a sword... I have yet to fully decide what it might be when the cape comes back!

Ironically - despite my earlier statement about not worrying about being periodically correct i can reveal that the game is set in 1885 for specific reasons! So Eastwood territory. But i thought they was something appealing about having an evil zorro, possibly camping it up. Otherwise most of the characters would look fairly similar... although actually having said that, all the ones ive done are very different from one another.

Also - i tested giving the headmask a lighter shade of black as suggested. Makes a big difference in terms of seeing the details that are on there such as the eyebrows (dont ask how his eyebrows appear to be visible through the headmask.. i just can't answer this). Also looks better with the hat on like this which will please the above hat fans.

Thanks people, just as i was convinced the hat had to go it's been thrown back into the ring by your relentless support! I shall have to reconsider.

Anian - some good points, I inadvertently tried a Fez by removing the brim of the hat, which looked good... Synfig Studio is actually the only one i've tried but I found it pretty complicated going and decided that it would take the same amount of time figuring out how to use it as it would to do all the frames manually. Maybe once i've finished this game i'll give it another go.

Well... the game's loosely inspired by spaghetti western films... i would have suggested searching the Forum for 'The Man with No Name' GIP thread, but the search tools probably still broken. But like all good adventure games it doesn't necessarily walk the 'authentic period' line as rigidly as it would if the game was a serious historic portrayal. I thought a good western type villain might be a swashbuckling evil-zorro type.

The hat for me also seems to make him look too militant, like a civil war type officer. The head mask by itself reeks of villain. That's the way i see it at present.

Knox - you've nailed it! Musketeer, THAT'S what he looks like with the hat! It has to go... although i feel a little sorry for it... i'll find another character for it.

My first post in the lounge area, and it's not a major question... I read the rules and considered this one long and hard - 'Consider if you actually need criticism'... but for peace of mind...

I'm just looking for the general consensus on whether my evil-Zorro-esque villain looks better with or without the hat. I'm beginning to think the hat just adds too much to the character, distracts from his devious expression...

and yes, the cloak cape looks pretty pants.

Having had a look around here at other stuff people are doing, like coooool flash animation i was wondering if there is easy to use freeware stuff out there that i could get stuck into. At the moment i use Inkscape for all my characters, and create a standard 6/8 image sprite sheet, manually crafting each frame. It would be great to try and use flash to bring these guys to life!

That is all.

Excellent game - short but sweet, unlike Mal

Dennis might have need of a 'clunge magnet' scarf on his travels.

Just me? Alright then...

Where can i get a spoon that size?!

He must have the 'spooner' scarf?

Ooooooo Nelly Cootalot extra smooth.... no nonsense.

I'm a guitarist turned drummer - but i wouldn't say i'm particularly good at the drums yet nor would i be able to record them... so useless.

I think you should try:

No One Knows - Queens of the Stoneage
Where the Devil Don't Stay or Lookout Mountain - Drive By Truckers
Powderfinger - Neil Young
Anything by Soundgarden / Zeppelin / Hendrix... i could just keep listing songs! So i'll stop now.

sha...
she will be mine again.... oh yes.

Edit 2: Oh dear - user error i assume. I just commented out all the 'custom' options - seems to have resolved the issue. I must have removed them from somewhere else in the module at some point I guess. My bad.  :-[ Apologies mods.

Edit: I can't actually replicate this error in a new game - puzzling. Wonder if it's a known smoothscroll parallax compatability issue (although error occurs when scrolling is not taking place)... anyway if anyone has any advice on the below then let me know.

Not sure if posting here will get me into trouble as this is quite an old topic now - but i've noticed the same error that Helme raised previously and i was wondering if anyone else had experienced this error and found a way to resolve it. It still occurs with the latest version of this module. I've tried in vain to resolve it and have searched the forums of other examples of people experiencing this issue and Helme is the only other.

The Bug:

Imagine you were to create a hotspot that represented a door in a non-scrolling room, and on the wall next the door you placed an object. The door hotspot is then configured to act on a single click interaction rather than verbcoin interface (property 'act' = true) so that on a single click the player walks to the door and exits the room.

The bug occurs if you do the following -
*Click on door to initiate the character interaction.
*In-between the character walking to the door and changing rooms move the mouse cursor so that it is now positioned over the object next to the door.
*When the door interaction attempts to run the change room interaction a 'null pointer referenced' error is thrown referencing this line in the 'Scumm Verbcoin GUI.asc':

"...
else if (GetLocationType(mouse.x,mouse.y) == eLocationObject){
       custom_1 = obj.GetTextProperty("Custom_Look"); //THIS LINE REFERENCED AS ERROR
..."

I think the cause has something to do with the module repeatedly checking the mouse x/y coordinates for a hotspot, object, character etc but i'm not skilled enough to try and resolve the issue further.

Anyone able to help?

Asides from this bug, I love this module. ;D

It certainly seems like a lot now!!

I'm nearing the end of chapter two - it has by far the most complicated bit of coding in it that i've had to do (can't foresee anything as tricky in the remaining set pieces). I might group some of the chapters together though... which won't actually reduce the length of the game  :)

While i appreciate why some people release their games in small chapters one by one, i'd rather just finish this and put it all out there in one go. Wash my hands of it!

This looks superb!!  :o

It's nice to know i'm not the only one out there working on a Western themed AG. Although... it looks like this will blow me out of the water!

Good luck with finishing it!

Is one of the choices whether or not to put the cat in the bin?

Sounds very cool! Liking the atmosphere and strange-robot-faced-man-holding-book character.
Looking forward to its release.

Android! That's the word i was looking for!

Not only have you created a stunning game - you've gone to the extra effort of passing on detailed advice to others on how to create similarly amazing backgrounds! I salute you sir.

...

Now finish it so i can play it.  ;D
