Hi there.

I was just wondering if it would be possible to create soundtracks with AGS a la the iMuse system LEC uses in their games from MI2 and forth.

For those of you who are not familiar with the iMuse system I'll try to explain:
The music in the town (or whatever) Woodtick in MI2 is buildt up around a reggae loop. But when you enter one of the ships the music expands (eg. more instruments are added to the beat). There's even a bar of variation before it changes. The best thing about this is that the music changes by the bars so that the first loop ends before the next continues. That means you get the feeling that the music never change or fade out.

I hope I'm being clear enough here...

Thanks...

Silent Knight: Chapter 2 - The Conscience of the King

Greetings fellow adventure games.
After beta-testing for a while I've finally released the second chapter of my Silent Knight series!

You play as a knight from Carté Dor.
In the first chapter you escaped the prison Alcatrash. The arcievement was so great the very same king who had first imprisoned you (King Arnold of Calithulhu) promised to set you free. If you in return would find and kill the dragon that was said to have killed King Arnold's son in law.
This is where this next chapter begins...

This game is about twice is big as the first chapter and has way more music.
Unfortunatly that also means that it's a 20 mb download. But if this is a problem I can upload the game without the music file.

The game features:
26 rooms (incl. intro/outro/cutscenes)
Lots of bad music
16 bit colour
640/480 pixels
And it has a modified Monkey Island interface

Some screenshots:

Feedback and criticism of any kind on the game is very welcome. I would love to hear from you!
I hope you'll enjoy my game. It can be found here:

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=629
(Don't forget to vote)

NOTE: This game is the second chapter in the Silent Knight series.
It takes place just after the first one ended. So if you
haven't played the first one you might want to get it at
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=554

ENJOY!

17. oct: I found a small bug in the game (thanks to Stefano). I've fixed it now...
There's also a bug when saving the game. I don't have time to fix it. You can save your game. you just can't see what the save game is called before you load it...
Ã,  Ã,
22. oct: I've added a smaller download without any music. Just download mirror 1.

13. dec: I've added a walkthrough. It can be found here: www.5feetunder.com/game/sk2-walkthrough.txt

General Discussion / Great game music
Mon 12/09/2005 21:10:15
Word up!

I'm about to spend the next couple of mouths writing a project for my University about the use of music in computer games.

Therefore I would to know if any of you people can think of any games where the music is specially great?
This could be because it's a great composition played by an entire orcestra (eg. Hitman) or because the music changes in a great way following the phase of the game (eg. Half Life 2). You name it!

Since this is for a University project any feedback would be very appreciated...

Thanks!

Hi.
I'm not sure if this question should go into the beginners forum. If that is the case, please move it?

I'm using mp3 soundtrack for my game. To save space some of the tracks a quite short.
The problem is that everytime a song starts over there's a short break. I've prevoiusly solved this by cutting a small piece of the music away so that the the feeling of the music stayed tight. But the small hole of nothing before the track restarts still remains.

Is there any way to get rid of this hole?

NOTE: I've played the files on repeat in others programs. Here there is no hole and the song repeat flawless!

Hi
I'm having a problem with the room scaling.
I want to reverse the room scaling so the character becomes smaller when he walk down.
I've tried to use continouus scaling (AGS automaticly reverses my settings) and SetAreaScaling (AGS give my an error when loading the game).
Is there anyway to do this?

Hi
I'm working on a sequel for my game Silent Knight. I've finished three backgrounds so far and I would love some c+c on them before putting them in the game...

A house outside of town

Here's also a couple of characters:

This guy is guarding the city gate

And this guy is selling maps with celebrity homes

hi there

I have a strange problem with my game:
In the last two rooms of my game there are a couple of objects that are very hard to intetact with. It's almost as if there is some hidden object in front of these obejcts that keeps the player from interacting with the objects. The player needs to click on the object exactly the right place to interact. I've tried everything but I can't figure out what's wrong. The strange thing is that this bug happens on both a object and a hotspot...
I'm using Proskito's MI2 tempate v.13, but I don't think that has anything to do with the problem...

If my description of the problem is unclear, please check out what I mean. Here's the game:
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=554
The bug appears when trying to open the crate and using the hose...
(I'll post a walkthrough after posting this!)
EDIT:
A complete walkthrough can be found here:
http://www.5feetunder.com/game/sk-walkthrough.doc

If anyone has any idea what causes this bug and/or how to solve it please write back...

Hi
I am just playing around with some voice in my game.
The characters speak and the sound files are played when they should, but the text skips and the next line starts playing before the first sound is finished.
Is there anyway to make AGS wait to skip to the next text line until the first voice sound is through?
I've searched the forums and manual but i can't seem to find the answer anywhere!

Word up, people.
After doing some serious drinking on the subject I (as a couple of others) decided to re-release my game from the One Room, One Week competition - The Bar.

You play as agent Sully Sharp who is sent to a bar downtown to find out if the Alien Marfia is hidding dope there.

The game is short, but I hope you'll enjoy it anyway!

Screenshot!

You can get the game here:

I'd love to hear some comments on it...

Have fun

General Discussion / Serious Super Mario Mess
Thu 12/05/2005 00:11:40
Right now I'm at a meeting with my group from university. We had a couple beers and suddenly an amazing opertunity (sorry about ze spelling) has come up. And now this question has entered my head:

How to ask your friends if it is ok that you smoke some weed while watching Mario Bros 3 being completed in 11 minutes?

Ps. I'm not sure if two out of five people are into weed!
PPs. The situation is for real. And a solution will come up.

Get going adventure people!

Hi!
This question might sound silly but a couple of my friends and me like watching movies that are funny while trying to be serious. But it's kind of hard to find these movies if you don't know anyone else who knows someone who know of the movie... You get the point!
What I'm looking for are movies that are so crappy that they are great. I hope you know what I mean.
So does anyone in here know some really stupid movies worth watching?

I'm talking about something along the lines of
Hercules in New York (the undubbed version is the greatest movie ever made IMO)
Boa vs Python (just plain stupid)
Battle Royal (the ending makes it all worth while)
ect...

Your pal
Niels

Ps. I do not mean to offend anyone who might think that these movies are good movies.

I've finally finished my first real game:

SILENT KNIGHT - CHAPTER 1 : The Mediocre Escape

This is my first game except for my OneRoomAdventure "The Bar".
The game takes place in my very own fantasy world in the kingdom of Calithulhu.
You control a Knight from the kingdom of Carté Dor who recieves a death sentence in Calithulhu and the story unfolds from here...
Sounds stupid? Well I guess it is...

12 rooms (incl. intro/outro)
Lots of bad music
16 bit colour
640/480 pixels
And it has a modified Monkey Island interface

A screenshot.

And one more.

[EDIT]
You can download it here:
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=554
The file is 6.13 Mb
Please leave a review if you like it or not!

I hope you'll enjoy it!
I would love some comments, bug repports ect. ect.

[EDIT]

I've finally finished my website.
I'm still trying to make it better, so a little c+c would be very nice!
I know it's not really adventure game related, but please have a look anyway...

Yo yo. I was pretty surprised that I won since my post was supposed to be a joke...
Well, here goes:

Rules: Every week (or so) a post will be made with a list of items and a scenario. Using your wit, skill and lack of mental health; find a way to complete the scenario with the items provided. You can only use a set number of items of your own choice. When I say use your skill, use it.

For example: you have a boulder and a reinforced window. I advise not using Pick Up boulder chuck through window. Think of something adventuresque to use.

Voting: After the week voting shall commence!

What If I win?: The winner chooses the next scenario and list of items.

Scenario: MONKEY MATTERS

This time the main character is a monkey (everybody loves monkies). The monkey is called Boo Boo La La Loo Boo and is stuck in a cage in a zoo. Boo Boo is sick of being trapped and of his name.

Your mission is to get Boo Boo out of the cage, find a bag to carry inventory in, kill the director of the zoo (who named Boo Boo) and finally escape the zoo.

Until Boo Boo find her bag she can only carry one thing around at the time.

During her escape Boo Boo's inventory must include a mircowave oven, a human ear and one album by The Monkies. The rest of the inventory is up to you!

Happy escaping...

NOTE: Boo Boo is allowed to be a male monkey if that fits your story better.

Hello
It's been a while since I last wrote something in this forum, mostly because I haven't had the time.
Well, while being bored the other day in school I drew a couple of characters, so I thought it would be funny to convert them into adventure game characters (maybe for later use in a game):

Ã,  Ã, andÃ,  Ã,
Ã,  Ã,  Ã, A punkÃ,  Ã, Ã,  andÃ,  Ã, a drunk student

What do you think about them?

This might be too simple for this forum, but the forum rules says scripting help...

Anyway, In my game the EGO must go down a stair case in back of the room. I have a region just inside the opening where the stairs start. It has this script:

SetWalkBehindBase (2,300);
MoveCharacterDirect (EGO,200,168);
while (character [EGO].walking) AnimateCharacter (EGO,3,3,0);
Wait (40);
NewRoomEx (7,256,117);Ã,

The walkbehind is located just where the floor stops. Now I want the EGO toÃ,  move down (behind the walkbehind) but keep animating like he's walking up.
The problem is that the EGO doesn't move. He just animate with out moving down.
Please help me out here...

Critics' Lounge / Locker room needs help!
Sun 22/08/2004 20:24:40
hi
During the making of the latest backgrounds for my upcomming game SILENT KNIGHT I ran into a problem, and I thought I would seek your help here inÃ,  the Critics Lounge.

This is supposed to be a locker room where some one has been diging a tunnel into the underground sewer:

I haven't finish the drawing yet i still need to do some shaddows, but I'm not really satisfied with the way the sewer has turned out. How can I improve this?
I could really need a helping hand here...

Thanks

I just found out that I won by default and I must admit I did not deserve that.
Last time I lost by technical K.O. so I guess that evens the score...

The next music compertition is a little related to the previous one (porn music).
A while ago I saw the love scene in Titanic (one of the worst movies I ever saw by the way) and the music in that scene is so romantic that it almost makes you throw up, but it must have touched some peoples hearts because the movie was a huge blockbuster and won some Oscars as well.
Well, the point being I want you to make that piece ofÃ,

MUSIC THAT WOULD RUIN EVEN THE MOST ROMANTIC LOVE SCENE!

My own surgestions would be some extreme Death Metal or some really whacked circus music. You decide...
