A parallel. to what.

QuoteThe point here is 'don't judge a book by its cover'.

You specifically asked people in this thread their opinion on said cover, bypassing their better judgement to -as you say- not judge by appearances. Nnnrgh

I haven't seen the brass eye special, but wasn't it the case of comedy concerning pederasty or somesort? Where humour versus people getting offended was the general vibe.

Your art containing huge boobs is not comparable, as this is not a vessel for vital societal opinion and critique (other than 'I like big boobs') so let's not get carried away. I have no problem with the art besides that I don't personally salivate over this sort of thing, but let's not go the opposite way and paint this as some sort of ideological stand.

Quoteultimately felt like a trivial waste of time.

As opposed to vital waste of time?

QuoteAnd if anybody in interesting in going to a party with roughly 50 pretty Swedish girls aged 20-21

Why yes, I'm interested. Let me just pack a few bags.

The neck is too fat and doesn't connect to the head on the left one.

I won't 'critique the critique' of Loominous, we've been through this before, I'll just stick to saying that comic art is not fine art and the idiosyncratic approach of each artist is a wonderful thing that shouldn't be sacrificed for realistic-interpretation type of clarity.

But you get all sorts of different critique here, I'm sure you'll find out what you want to do, Bernie.

Steve, what I mostly mean by "Why?" is that eventually you'll get to a point where you're making wilder and wilder conclusions as to why the US government would kill thousands of Americans.

You said 'why?' Steve explained 'for geopolitical power', and you said 'why?' again. That's like asking why human beings desire safety. Geopolitical power is an end in itself, it's an extension of the most basic instincts of control and power and cannot be scrutinized further on that scale. Countries serve their best interests because

I don't know much about this theory, but I have no trouble believing that if it ment enough power and resources and a solid footing in the middle east, the american goverment would lie to, and kill it's own citizents.

Yeah, and when it's someone with a reputation as Helm's, leave it be.  :D

This is such bullshit. Doesn't hold true at all.

I'm sorry Mats, I won't do it again.

nothing's wrong with having fun. Just as long as we know we're not approaching any brilliant singularity here or anything.

I used to be so annoyed by those 'live the moment, dude' people myself.

you have anatomy issues, here I edited only the left side of the body to give you a sense of what would work against what you did. same mirrored below to give a more full impression

joint of the arm is on the same circular path as the navel. Your abs were too small too, and you've misinterpreted the muscular structure of the arm quite a bit. Nothing you can't fix by doing general anatomy work for a while. Book studying here will help much more than internet message boards.

Actually nothing they ever did would classify as gothic rock... they just named their second album 'Gothic'. Paradise Lost were one of the first romantic doom, or doom/death bands around, followed closely by early Anathema and early My Dying Bride.

Lost went from this style to a generic mid-tempo atmospheric metal deal up to Icon, and from there to Draconian Times they streamlined even more, eventually losing the guitars for 'Host' which was in my opinion a fine album, one of their better, and then after facing fan backlash for not being 'metal' anymore, they returned to using heavy guitars on these awful Believe in Nothing and Symbol of Life albums. I haven't heard the newest, 'Paradise Lost' yet, but I don't think I'm missing out on anything...

Yes, things will improve the more you train. But a super-steady hand in not needed to do art. When you have to do straight lines, use a ruler. When you have to do a long smooth curve, use curve tools. The rest freehand them and you'll be ok.

QuoteIf my art had to be printable, would I have to draw it at A4/300 dpi? It's a pretty huge image and drawing at that size is very difficult.

As a general rule, yes. A4/300 dpi. I've gotten used to drawing at 25% zoom and then zooming in to 33% to do more detail, sometimes going up to 50% zoom with an 1pixel brush for more detail work. It's something you pick up, again. Inking on the PC at such resolutions isn't as traditional inking. Go from general to specific. Do thumbnails at small zoom, go in and start refining as you go.

QuoteIs it normal for lineart at A4/300dpi and 100% zoom to look rather messy? It seems to be okay when I print it. I'd love to take a look at one of your comic panels scanned in at that size. Would that be possible?

Yeah, quite. Lemme show you.

That's 300 dpi and 72 dpi respectively.

About your examples, tighten up the feathering more, I'd say. Pay special attention to every line.

The biggest problem I have with opinion blogs, OS squinky's blog in that sense, is that they contain opinions. Every time I read a large post by OSsquinky I go 'gah! pain! rationalizations... hurt.. brain!' but that really isn't her fault at all. She finds it important to have, and expound on, generalized opinions that seem to put order and reason  in the world... just like you, Limpingfish. You're all rationalizations and generalizations too. You say she's smug about it, and I say you're trying to be funny about it when you're not. Both are irritating in their own special way.

There might come a time when both of you and other opinion people (as I used to be 100%) will realize how much the sets of words you use to talk about reality fail to ghrasp both the intricacy of the design, and the interactivity of it's various disparate parts, and you might see that these discussions here have more to do with feeling good, challenging our brains and having fun than they have to do with actually understanding reality or anything of the type. You then will look back on posts and posts of opinions you've put online and you'll see a bunch of words in a row.

this was a great idea,  yeah. razghoul who organized and participated on this one (the first image is his) is an awesome artist whose work I really enjoy looking at

I think that final high-contrast+feathering look worked quite alright actually, bernie. The problems are more with the original lineart than the rendering on this one, I'd say, and as it was mentioned. Keep at it!

as for real inking, I suggest any good pigment ink marker, from 0.1 to 0.3 for fine work and 0.7 or so for fuller lines, and an ink brush or well pen with lots of different end bits for variable length one-stroke lines.

Yes, yes sadly I've heart to all the material Lost have put out so far. Which is why I stand by what I sad that only the first album is actually awesome. Gothic is ok, not terrible, has a few good tracks, and from then and onwards... ugh
