Tilemachos Stavropoulos (hey, that's how it's spelled in my passport) doesn't exist on the internet. I dislike personal information online (for different reasons than one might think are obvious) and having a generic nickname like 'Helm' helps keep all that to a minimum.

QuoteI said "I am still used to games with Simon 2's resolution so it doesn't look too bad to me."

That's the thing, it doesn't look too bad to you, whereas it's some of the most brilliant pure pixelled backgrounds ever made, nothing that has come out at that resolution since has topped them, and they're generally the pinnacle of the dpaint era. And it looks 'not too bad' to you. Artblind!

QuoteHelm, read my post properly!

Do you know that saying this to a person is a bit rude?

QuoteSure you all seem to get that nostalgic feel when you look at these AGI graphics, but as I said before you're all finding it difficult to make out who everyone is! This in turn affects gameplay issues, does it not?

Sure it does, but as people who are not artblind have considered, there are other effects besides clarity to go for with game art. The agi games benefit from a very cohesive art style due to the limitations of the palette and the resolution. Cohesion is beautiful and immersive. Agi games benefit from the process of idealization and symbolism that occurs when you have to take so much detail out of say, a chair that it doesn't become one of many chairs, with a little crack on the left leg and slightly scewed, but it becomes THE chair. That's a nice effect too. It creates a comfortable middle ground between descriptive art, and art that leaves much to the imagination. Room for interpretation is nice as well. I wish more games utilized all these things, and I wish people wouldn't go 'OMG I CAN'T TELL WHAT'S WHAT SUXXORS!'

Quotewhat kind of ass crap is this crap?

Why it's crap from an ass, obviously.

Thanks for explaining that to me. I'll go back in time and let little willy know.

No, it's not.

Matt: forget AGI... if you looked at simon 2 and you thought the graphics looked 'bodged up' you're what we call 'artblind'. Not in that you can't discern what you like, but in that you are unable to understand the inherent aesthetic in - in this case, it wouldn't surprise me if this carried on to others - video game art, the process of it's creation and it's underlying semiotic themes and purposes. A lot of people are art blind. A lot of people look at a pointilist painting and all they can say is 'what kind of ass crap is this crap? Why didn't he take a photograph and be done with it?'

Quotehe he he.  What do you think

what I think is that you're hurting your own artistic growth in playing with doll-based character creation.

QuoteYeah.  The "preppy fashion model" thing is intentional.  I wanted him to look like a stuck-up a$$hole.

No you didn't. It's the premade poses in whatever doll thing you're using to make these. Just ditch the premade graphics and make everything like you did the in-game sprites. Might not look pretty but it'll be cohesive and you'll benefit lots from it.

are you deeply disappointed at my not being an adventure game, now? I know my title font might be a little misleading.

not much sensitivity remains when a nipple is cut of with a white-hot serrated knife. May also result in scars, just saying.

Basically you rehearse a lot until you're really tight, then hopefully from the material, the people can agree on two or three pieces being the strongest, so you go in a studio and you lay down scratch guitars and drums. Then the guitarists go in and the real rhythm and bass, and vocals and solos as well as keys and whatever effects go last.

I admit of being guilty of having to fiddle (with one arm though) and even mumbling a curse or two because the stupid bra was antagonizing me but I stand here today a winner, so all is well...

power metal is quite excellent. Crimson Glory, Heir Apparent, Omen, Jag Panzer, Stormwitch, Gargoyle, Cirith Ungol, Manilla Road and the like.

Demons & Wizards on the other hand, are simply manufactured bullshit for people who don't care for passion, vision and honesty in the music they listen to.

don't use dolls for characters. You'll have to animate later and that sort of detailed texture on the legs is going to make it a real headache. Also personally I find this semi-manga semi-fashion boy thing going on in doll utilities to be annoying, but each to his own. Oh and your avatar freaks me out majorly.

QuoteThey sound like doom metal bands, or maybe something like cathedral/autopsy?

cathedral.... autopsy?? Cathedral used to play doom metal and now play stoner rock, autopsy played awesome filthy death metal about frying your brain or burying you alive, and they both have nothing to do with the generic silly power metal of bands like Demons and Wizards.

although the music's not my type of music, I don't have much to say composition-wise. What you need is a better production for this. I suggest warezing a host program like Cubase or Sonar and then downloading Battery 2 and the freeware NS kit for drums, and Native Instruments Guitar Rig 2 for recording line-in guitars. The only thing that sounds semi-ok as it is now in my opinion is the bass guitar and the vocals, somewhat. The mix is really quite clear, it's the pure signal that you've got that suffers a lot.

I like how apparently the opposite end of Bush is M. Moore in the political spectrum of the US.
