Hi. The backing riff and the drum beat are not so much different time signatures ( both are four of the floor) but played at different tempos. Play with metronomes more, get in the groove of the beat and you'll see you're wildly off. The solo didn't really do anything for me either. solos are little songs in themselves, they must enter, lead somewhere and finish when the song is ready to go somewhere else. as this isn't a song really, I guess much of that is moot.

There's numerous metal bands whose recordings make for worthwhile experiences for people who are not interested in the 'lifestyle' aspect of it at all. Here's a few:

Maudlin of the Well
The 3rd and the Mortal
Psychotic Waltz
Pelican

timbre is the sound of an instrument. I am refering to the specific brand of distorted and nondistrorted guitar sound and overcompressed drum most metal bands employ as the specific timbre in this case.

And predominant scales in heavy metal include pentatonic minor and major, natural minor, harmonic minor, several modes ( with which I have no experience so I won't comment) and when going to more extreme styles of metal a lot of chromaticism and fake atonal (based on a minor scale, but with plenty use of accidentals that are in the way of the fingering) scales. Metal chords most used are powerchords, inverted powerchords, octave chords ( nevermore must have not played a regular power chord in ages) tonic-fifth, tonic-fifth-ninth etc

most current actual metal bands, especially extreme metal bands have nothing to do with 'executive producers' if that makes you feel any better. Seriously. Most of these bands lose or at best don't see ANY money from putting out a record, and only see some returns when they play live shows. Most of them have day jobs.

Quoteso the whole concept of an album is rarely the idea of a band, or a single person.

so quite often it is.

The definition of heavy metal is a tricky one. It's far easier to tell what isn't metal than what is. Generally it has to be defined socially, historically as well as musically ( the timbre or predominating scales used) as well of course, aesthetically.

you really can't or can?

And a lot of people play thrash or death metal like it's their life depends on it. Even in this post-modern world a lot of people passionately love about the music they've chosen to play.

Marylin Manson isn't metal at all.

If you call a cubist painting, a symbolist painting you seem confused and you cannot discuss with people less confused than you because you abuse the common terminology. It is the same with musical genres. As most people who aren't really interested in painting think of all modern painting is 'incomprehensible crap', people with no deep knowledge of music thing everything with loud guitars belongs to some particularily obnoxious kind of heavy metal. Genres make the life easier for people who desire to discuss the specifics of various musical movements. Make this analogy with anything you feel passionate about.

most of these games are pretty straightforward, and if they're not completely, usually looking at the help file that came with the game helps. Anna can get difficult, but is really really worth it, the rest are easy besides gladiator quest but in that case it's not the puzzles that are difficult but the arcade parts. Dance 'Til You Drop is probably the only game that's really involved and might take more than one session to finish. I can't see why people would 'give up' on orow games.

I think that if you haven't finished a game, it would be best if you consider why you haven't finished it. You haven't finished it because it's not appealing and irritating as a game, or you haven't finished it because you didn't invest enough effort and time into it. If it's the former, then you SHOULD vote and vote harshly because keeping a player interested is an important part of making a game. If the latter, it's more your fault than the game's and your votes should reflect that.

this is actually one of the big differences between lec and sierra. Sierra used a more IF-inspired narrator description, whereas LEC used the character speech almost exclusively. I prefer the former. I find  narration very useful, and I it irritates me in a sort of breaking-fourth-wall way when a character talks out loud due to my clicking look on thing. I know it shouldn't, since he complies when I tell him to walk there, or use that, so why look should be any different? But it is.

Also, the narrator can be hilarious if done right, look at quest for glory 4.

Personally, I think character speech should only be used in conversations between pc and npc etc. Where it would make sense for someone to talk out loud. No 'I see a big door.'

and when I read the original post I thought 'this couldn't possibly get more formulaic'. I suggest ditching this whole story and going for something we haven't seen 300 times before.
