Those that can't criticise, those that can do.

I don't understand this. Can you rephrase?

I dunno how many funny things I can stomach. I think I'll play it safe with ham and cheese inside it actually.
#284
Sure, the older ones. I don't even know the Helm that made them very well.

I find the forum "discussions" generally very annoying, and it's slightly offputting to me that people I know to be intelligent get so involved in them, especially after they turn into the train wrecks that they often do when certain people get involved.

QuoteI expect this is more a problem with my attitude to arguments in general.

Yes, it's more your problem than real from where I'm sitting 'cause I haven't seen a train-wreck discussion here in ages. More like go-kart pile-up at worst.

RTFM!

Personally, I almost never have seen any argument thread here degenerate. If you think they have, I urge you to take the grand tour of other internet fora, like say, gamefaqs or what-have-you and witness der trve horror. If the worst we can get here is manicmatt being touchy about 'paki' and some people being all 'huh, why?' about it, then I can live with that.

Seriously, I've spent time in places where wishing death on somebody and their whole family for whatever trivial reason is just starters and where communicational darwinism is paramount. We're living in internet heaven here in comparison.

And to expound on what Andail is saying above a bit, I'd honestly like to know what people think on issues like racism and religion and whatnot, because otherwise you might make friends here based on false assumptions. For example there's been cases where a person might post something here and make me lose most respect for them by just a few lines. Everything was great before they posted that, but now I know about that side of their personality. Would it be better if we willfully tried to obfuscate our true characteristics in the name of some misplaced sense of internet solidarity? What? Because we all play adventure games?

Yes binky. To tie it all together, a stand-up comedian who says 'fuck all you people, you should all die, I hate you ALL' is a-ok whereas one who says 'fuck black people only, I hope they die, I hate them ALL' is a racist and uproar ensues.

I guess hating everybody equally is seen as a cartoony proposition, a shock-value statement without any backing, as there hasn't been oh, historical cases where misanthropes have come together to burn people indescriminately in ovens, or enslave them or whatever.

wow Manicmatt, you're not even Pakistani or anything.

When I play Tetris, I play Tetris hard. After hours, I go to sleep and have Tetris matches in my dreams.

Quotet's not the content that's making us intelligent.

It's our ability to see the links and to understand the relationships between entities that's making us intelligent.

It's difficult to read this thread fully, but is anyone disagreeing with this? I find it a very reasonable assumption. Faster minds for faster worlds. Doesn't mean better worlds, doesn't mean better (content-wise) minds. Just faster.

QuoteAnthony Kiedis.

I get told this a lot, I don't really see the resemblance myself. I find that dude obnoxious too, I guess I wouldn't like myself if I didn't know him so intimately.

Does regular me still look like this guy? Guh!

QuoteNot that I'm trying to be racist or anything but that just proves how far black people will go to get free money.

Sorry. That's racism right there.

Quotelet's just talk in white/black terms:

Seriously, let's not. The worst way you can approach such a multileveled issue is in broad and absolutist terms, I think.

I find an interesting hidden meaning in how you phrased something. You say either it's ok for all to be racist, or for none to be racist. That'd make you happy? Would you in some way be content if it was 'ok' for whites to be racist and blacks to be racist, everybody to be racist? This is leading to that maybe it's more important to push back racism in every place we can, even if it's not uniformly for now, than to consider racism a right and see how it would fall under equal such.

Really really wrong turn of phrase for you there, equal rights in racism, Darth.

yeah that sort of 'we're in the same hate club by default' mentality is repulsive.
