Quotewhy do they choose to live life on equal terms without clinging to past wrongs?

Are you serious? Especially the Jewish people act - and usually have their way - as if they have a get out of jail free card with no expiration date after the holocaust.

Yeah you can see him sorta switching direction, trying to reel it in by the 'there's still those words, there's still those words'. Because now it's not him calling people niggers, it's him shocking people to give them a lesson in cultural semiotics and linguistics.

How I see things: people are probably racist on a biological level. Man wants himself and his tribe to survive, prevail above others, life feeds on life, so on. We're not only animals anymore though, we've created this extraordinarily complex shell that we call civilization. Now most of all for utilitarian reasons, racism doesn't work. In action, people of different races while different aren't inherently worse or better than one another, and on a pragmatist level it befits society to not have distinction on race. However, most people are brought up with a surpressed racist sentiment. This might be fed less or more, by parents and peers. Let's say it's not fed. For example, in my case it really really wasn't fed (Dad's hardline Marxist) at all. I am the result of 400 years of racial intermixing (Turkish bondage, baby) it would be extremely hilarious to go on about Greek Power. So on the surface I am very much not a racist. However if let's say I was pushed to the breaking point by an Albanian (we don't have many black people here, I'm just using a race in similar situation in greece as the blacks where once in the US) I think I can see myself going "that fucking Albanian (well I don't know any derogatory terms for Albanian, but I'd say it like it was derogatory), go back to your country, asshole!". I'd feel awful about it later on and everything. But the racist gene is there and people will never be completely accepting of difference, nor will it become transparent until we're all the same color.

Which brings me to my point: everybody fuck everybody else. Let's get to it.

But it's sort of impossible to look at the huge marketing machine on full effect this period and think that about gaming. I haven't bought a console since the Mega Drive, and I'm a it detached, but especially Sony with the PS3 is just hilariously here's-my-angle-if-you-don't-like-it-I-have-another about it. I find a lot about the Nintendo marketing campaign annoying as well. Let's not talk about Bill Gates at all.

So there's industry wars right now. And we people are somehow playing a predestined part, isn't it so?

First of all I can bet that a similar thread in say... gamefaqs fora would probable explode my face. Most people here are being very civilized, I'm not saying it's degenerating to grunting or anything.

I'm also not saying Timlump is all informed-opinions all the time or anything.

I tried to think of how to phrase my objection finally, and I guess it is more or less this: I find it really odd that people have strong opinions (either for or against) about video game consoles. I realize it shouldn't bother me as much as it does. People assign meaning to cultural objects and some connections I find more odd than others. I don't particularily object to someone wearing a band t-shirt. But someone wearing a nintendo t-shirt it just rubs me the wrong way. It's somewhere in the middle of the scale, with Obscure Band that Only Put Out a Demo on one end, and Coke Cola on the other.

Probably my problem only.

Somebody's always gonna make the begged statement, it's been me sometimes, sometimes somebody else. It's just the en-masse thing that sorta alarms me. I understand liking games a lot (I like games a lot!) but swearing allegience to a console is like saying you're really into your Panasonic CD player.

I agree if someone said something ignorant about something I cared a lot about I'd probably comment. But these consoles are hardly even out. It's like somebody is saying 'The Wii is made from butter' and the other person is saying 'no stupid, it's made from plastic, silicone and metal bits, gosh, get your facts straight!'.

BlueSkirt, for dumb ending, check under Broken Sword.

Excuse me for interrupting: I find it really odd not so much that some people make uninformed statements about consoles sucking, but with the vehemence that others refute them. Of course, ignorance annoys. But it's a bit too much, if you consider you're backing up a huge company, on the internet, on your own free time, acting as a marketer without being on their payroll.

Dreamweb ends.... perfectly.

AGS games? Don't remember one that really stayed with me.

QuoteI find the opportunity to scrutinise, explore and investigate a rich location extremely involving. Still, different hats for different cats.

That sounds great in theory. In practise, you pull levers and turn dials.

Wasn't talking about Dr. Brain since I haven't played it, Radiant. But I remember that being a collection of puzzle games, right? Myst is a puzzle game disguised as an island.

Enjoyable on the whole. Pointer: if you're going to have screenshots from low-res 320x200 games, why not have proper undistorted png files of them at 1x size? They're hardly any kilobyte cost most of them.

Nice of you to take the initiative. Looking forward to more.

Hilarious!

I guess in the same way tape recording of conversations, and of course splicing in Gabriel Knight was innovative. A good combination: both something a character may use as a helper, and important for a puzzle later on.

These 'puzzle island' games (even when they're not islands, you get what I mean) are very odd for me, because they give you so little to go on that it's not so much that the puzzles break the suspension of disbelief, it's that there's no disbelief to begin with. Very transparent slideshow-puzzle-slideshow-puzzle for me.
