I hope it's not to late for some input.

I had problems with the backgrounds, too. I found one 'room' very late in the game, because I didn't expect there was a way. I think things like that would happen with well-disgned bgs.

I don't know if you want to use the same main characters, so the idea might not fight.
But I like the idea of learning the language of the atapi. I mean to start with only a few symbols/words and learn new ones with the progress of the game.

Damn, my jabba impersonation doesn't work in a forum...

Looks promising!

But I wonder if 9 verbs are really necessary. I always hated it, when I couldn't solve a puzzle because I did try to 'use' something but not to 'pull' or 'push'.

Thanks for this module!
It made many things so much easier to code!

Puh... not much going on in this competition...
Is anyone working on an entry?

Here's my entry: 'Celtic Chaos: episode one - cold mead'
Reminds me a bit of Vicky the Viking

You should finish the game! There's a small reference to vicky.  ;D

Because there's not much time playing the games and my testers told me, that one of the first puzzles in my game is quite tough I wanted to give some hints.

So, if you're stuck at the spiderweb:
1st hint:
Spoiler
There a 8 strings you can cut. If you cut the second one, the spider will attack you.
After you leave the spider will repair her net.
[close]
2nd hint:
Spoiler
There are lots of loose rocks lying on the upper timber. Better don't touch it. The link between the upper and the outer two timbers seems to be weak.
[close]
3rd hint:
Spoiler
The upper-left silk string is directly attached to the weak connection of the upper and the left timber.
[close]
4th hint:
Spoiler
If you use the remains of the pickaxe with the left timber you can make a small gap.
[close]
solution:
Spoiler
If you made the gab with the pickaxe, the upper timber seems to be to stable to collapse, when the spider pulls it out, to repair her net. Do it once more, and replace the pickaxe with the wedge-shaped stone, so the gap will be bigger. When the spider pulls out the wedge, the upper timber will fall down.
[close]

So, time to continue the quest...

Here's my entry: 'Celtic Chaos: episode one - cold mead'

http://www.box.net/shared/gcksmnzhbi

The celtic chaos series was supposed to be a spin-off to my game 'Cold meat'.
Unfortunately it's not finished yet. The translation needs a bit more time than I expected.
But that's not a bad thing. You don't need to play 'Cold meat' before 'Cold mead', you just will miss some puns.

Whereas 'Cold Meat' takes place today and ancient celtic zombies raise from their graves, 'Celtic choas' takes place arround the year 500 B.C. in the lifetime of these celtic warriors.
In the first episode you play Nektom the strong, brave and ...erm... stupid miner.

The game uses the VerbCoin-Modul, so hold the left mouse-button to look or interact/talk and click the right mouse button to open the inventory/menu.

I forgot to say the deadline. The deadline is 29.8. Should be enough to judge the entries until the 31.8.
I hope there will be some more until then.

It is allowed to use old material, if it's not an old competition entry.
Actually, I won the last competition with an song, that was about a year old.

So, this is the first time to host a competition for me. I hope the idea is new for a competition.

Create music that sounds typical for a certain decade between 1900-2000.

For example you can:
- swing like the thirties
- rock'n'roll like the fifties
- synthesize like the eighties

Minimum lenght of the music is one minute.

I hope this isn't too hard and that there will be some entries.

Yeah!  ;D
That was the short mix. This is the original:

Hm... now I have 2 ideas for the next competition. I will announce the next competition soon.

@Bedminster
I'm really glad to get help with the translation.  I already sent you an e-mail.
#213
I already have an idea and it's more Telltale-like, than you request in your guidelines. ;D

So, if nothing really strange happens, I'm in.
#214
Good to read, that you're working on a sequel.
#215
Sorry, Electroshokker.

I got to report another bug to you. If you override the VerbCoin by setting the propertie 'act true' the game can crash, when you click at a destination where hotspots, objects or chars are close to each other.  For example if a charakter stands before a hotspot and you click at the edge of the charakter.

The game crashes with the following massage:
in 'Scumm VerbCoinGui.asc", line 547
Error: Error running function: 'repetedly_execute':
Error: Null pointer referenced

O.K. I made this song a year ago and it's a short-version of a song of my last record.
You can judge if I can enter the competion with that.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/1yvrwh

I think it's the only song I did in english within the last 5 years, because I think most times it sounds ridiciulous, when germans, including me, sing in english. So the only way to do it, is by making a really dadaistic tune.
#217
Is the nazi the main character of your game?

I don't want to be a killjoy and maybe thats the wrong section for the discussion, but I can't relate anything positive to a nazi and I wouldn't want to play him as a good guy.
#218
Do I have to make a song for the contest or can I join with music I already made for something else?
#219
KrisMuc solved my problem.

If you add the following to the module-code, the bug is gone.

// in rep_ex

 if (player.ID == charid) {    // oder if (player == character[charid])
   speaking = false;
   character[charid].UnlockView();
   charid = -1;
 }
