AGS Games in Production / Re:Buccaneer II

Thanks, Vel.

As it is, I probably won't release any more screenshots until the demo/game is completed. Right now I'm in doubt whether or not I should release a demo... it would be a swell way to raise interest, but then again, the time spent developing the demo could also be used to develop the game.

Ah, well. I'll update this thread whenever something noteworthy occurs, and preview some material from time to time. :)

It's nice to know that there are people out there who are interested in this little project of mine!

Beginners' Technical Questions / Re:GAMES
Sat 20/09/2003 18:25:16
I think the correct forum should be "Gen Gen"... technical issues (which are non-AGS related) are mostly dealt with there.

Because, as this help-questions looks like, this is prolly a problem with their videocard...

This isn't really a topic for discussion, so I'd say: Move it. :)

*bump*

Updated the first post.

Errr... I notice only now that in each screenshot, Richard's profile is the same.. darnit, almost as if he's hiding the right side of his body!

Ooooh, then someone can finally make Outcast 2. :)

Looking good!

Which image editor do you use?

You can download trial versions of Adobe Photoshop and JASC Paint Shop Pro through www.download.com, so maybe you'll have more luck with those programs?
#286
So?

Create a PCX file in 16-bit colours... 24-bit or 16-bit doesn't differ that much, as the remaining 8-bit are usually used for transparacy, which Windows doesn't properly support anyway.
#287
Photoshop supports all that.

Convert your PCX file to 256 colours... Photoshop can do that in a breeze.

And why no JPG? Try making a JPG in 320x200... looks like rubbish.

In fact, JPG is only properly suited (and developed) for photographs. So, get used to the PCX format. It's a good format, once you get used to it.

Ehhh....

How do I get in the car? :)

True, but for me, those kind of puzzles are action sequences. The camel-riding in FoA is also puzzley, but to me it's an action sequence. The zombie-avoiding at the end of GK1 is action, but also puzzley, since you have to click the right twines, etc. There's a logic to it. But it's still action-oriented.

So, yeah, I mean those kind of elements of a game.
#290
Overriding the action sequence would be possible, only if it was something like the fighting in FoA.

Let me rephrase the question a bit:

What action sequence did you like the most in an adventure game?

E.g. the submarine sailing in FoA, the insult-fighting in MI, etc.

And also... why?

General Discussion / Re:Robin's Plan ...

As Robin Williams does stand-up comedy, and judging from the irony dripping off the words, I would say:

YES.

Don't take this seriously... that's not how Robin Williams views these affairs. He's actually quite liberal, you know. :)

Oh, I was wondering... is the book written by this man called, perchance, "The Philosophy of Time Travel"?

Written by a certain R. Sparrow? :)

I was reading your start post again, and suddenly it felt very reminiscent of Donnie Darko... book about the subject, disturbed teenager finding out what it's about, etc.

Keep working on this one, dangit! :)

General Discussion / Re:the diet...

Ah, yes, smoking. That helps. *grins* Takes away appetite, muchly.

I'm 2,06 metres... somewhere in the 6 feet 6" category, if I'm not mistaken. Prolly taller.

Am somewhat disappointed to see Minimi beats me by almost an inch, though. I weight some meagre 85 kg. which is grossly too little for someone my length...

...but sporting always works. My weight was higher when I was heavily playing volleybal, even though it didn't show back then. :)

Xenogia, do you happen to have some screenshots?

If you're ever going to remake PQ3, I'd be more than willing to help out! Adding to the storyline, etc.

Or, maybe PQ4 (the real one with Sonny Bonds)... :)

I personally love horror movies where the "Evil Bad Thing" is *NOT* revealed. Usually, once these dark things are brought to the screen, they're often ridiculously lame.

Take "End of Days" for example... the CGI devil at the end was just laughable. The rest of the movie was enjoyable, though. Even with Arnold's non-acting.
Or, that Stephen King TV movie... The Langoliers. Excellent, wonderfully spooky. That is, until the Langoliers themselves come to the screen. They're very very badly done in CGI and make the entire TV movie a laughable thing.

So, if you wish to go for drama, darkness and suspense and find yourself unable to draw the beast, then by all means: hide it in the shadows!

However, if your game is supposed to be comical, how much damage can it do? ;)

(P.S. But seriously: Do whatever suits you best. Featuring a mythical creature doesn't neccessarily mean it should be completely on the screen, right?)

(P.S.2. However, if done properly... it would rock.)

So, apart from Nostradamus, you generally like it... or agree that Buccaneer needs stuff like this.

I'm kinda thinking about it a bit more. I think the swordfighting was already excelled in Monkey Island... not click-festy, but puzzle-based. So I'm thinking of something else.

But, thanks for your input!

How's this game coming? Am eagerly looking forward to this one!

Following the tradition started by Petteri "Pete"... Here's me as I'm working on my game. :)

"Is that a bedroom I see before me?!"

Top-down development.

Me. Just... me.

As you can see, the excitement of game-developing is almost too much for me.
