Once again, an excellent read. Am seriously looking forward to Goldlagoon now. The style of the game is just so wonderful. Simple, yet very, very good looking.

And, of course, how could I think this is a bad issue? Buccaneer got 94%! Wahey! ;)

Dave, the reason I chose 320 x 200 (or 320 x 240) was because it's quicker to do. And I also had a blast in making Buccaneer once I was working in that resolution. Far more fun to work with than in 640 x 400, as when I was working on The Strange Day.

So, it is one of the rules. But I won't disallow your game to win if it's in 640 x 400. Seeing as you have a good motivation, I think it's allowed.

How to draw Buccaneer-style:

With special thanks to MrColossal and Pessi for introducing these methods to me by posting in Farlander's topic a long, long time ago.

Thanks, Squinks. Finish Pirate Fry 2, though. ;)

Also, I've made a tutorial on how to draw a background like this. Back in the Critic's Lounge when I posted a picture from "Depths of Clearbay", someone asked for this.

Enjoy!

Edit:

Discuss what you would like to see happen in Buccaneer II here.

This looks terrific!

I like the first one in particular. Would you mind doing a tutorial? :)

I'm aiming for an early 2004 release. It'll probably take till Spring, though. What with work and all that taking up my time.  :-\

Wooooooow!

(And that's no exagerating!)

I actually typed a very lengthy response to this, and then my connection went haywire. So, in short:

1. The GK interface makes this game instantly stylish!
2. The graphics so far look terrific.
3. The fact that you've been labouring on the game for so long already shows great promise! I bet you know the ins and outs of all that happens.

It just looks terrific! (And it makes it clear where all the surveys were about :) )

Gabriel Knight I
"Sins of the Fathers"

And you're right... this topic has been done to death. Make a game instead! ;)

Sounds good!

Reminds me (partly) of the Moonlight Sonata from... Beethoven(?) I think. Sonata Quasi Un Fantasia, I believe the full title is.

The drums fit the song really well. It would work well for an opening menu of a game! Or its credits.

As I mentioned, a classical mythical beast is allowed. So a werewolf is all right. But if you want something with a bird's head, I think a Hippogriff is the closest you'll get?

Features

Bucanneer II is an adventure game about Richard McRoch, an ex-Buccaneer turned merchant. In part I, we learned little tidbits about his life, his relation to Margareth and discovered a betrayal.

Now, in Buccaneer II, we learn the rest.

* A medium/full-length adventure game spanning over 5 game days.
* Completely digital soundtrack by Vel.
* 320 x 200 in 16 bit colours
* Using the by now familiar GUI from Proskrito, closely modelled after the one used in Fate Of Atlantis.
* A continuation of the tale begun with "Buccaneer". Learn more about Richard, Margareth and a myriad of other characters that populate Renaissance Amsterdam!
* Uses the awesome Rain/Snow plugin by Scorpiorus!
* Swordfighting (skipable). (being scripted by [ ... ])
* Fabulous character art by Regnum Eternum.

It looks fun enough. A Yeti's cool. :)

And by placing it on the south pole, you've managed to get the Yeti out of its natural habitat (the Himalaya's) and into its vacation resort! *grin*

Good luck on the game!

I've just announced it on the website of Unosar as well... so for a sneak preview of what the plot will be about, surf to www.unosar.com!

BTW, vote for Buccaneer here!

Isn't there a democrat available in California?

Arnold would a *bad* idea, in my opinion. This is from my strictly liberal point of view. Arnold is a republican, and in his interviews he has already shown he's not the most tolerable person around.

Personally, for me, the fact that he's against same-sex couples marrying, ruins it for me. So much for enlightenment, Ahnuld!

Pah!

Amateurs!

BeOS is the real king!

Ok, so it's a dead OS that isn't being developed anymore. But it just sounds cooool, ok? ;)

Actually, it's a pretty stable OS which beats Windows and Linux anyday. It's also MAC-compatible. Only problem? There's no darn software. *grin*

As mentioned, I'm probably going to make a Buccaneer 2. I've been pondering it for some time, and I already have a far greater plot for it than for my other games-in-progress. The Strange Day just looks awful to my eyes now (despite it being in a higher resolution). And "Depths of Clearbay" is cool, but I'm not really ready for that game yet. Lots of complex character issues to tackle, and I'm not feeling too comfortable with my skills for that yet.

So, yes, the drama will be upped, and Richard McRoch will once again set out through the streets of Amsterdam. Haunted by his excessive drinking and the longings for his dead wife Marie, he'll be having an interesting plot!

And, thank you all for playing this game. I can't begin to express how good it feels to know that people enjoy this little game.

PLUS: Bug-fix! You can now look at the brandy anywhere in the game.

It would also appear I've won this month's MAGS competition. Yay!
