Haha, looks like Nightcrawler!

I like it, though. Is the animation also a bit like our blue-skinned priest? :)

Pessi, you couldn't be more right.

Now I'm going to finish off my Demo so I can finally have an accepted place here. :)

The GK1 puzzle was fun, if a bit... simple. It felt like clicking on book after book, although the supplied info was interesting, so for that game it worked really well.

The LucasArts pixel hunting was also enjoyable, especially in Indy3 (were there other games that did a library like this?) where you visit Venice.

You could always combine these two elements, and have a large library as in Indy3 and then do it topical like GK1. Would be interesting, I think.

This sounds like a terrific idea for a game!

I just love time travelling stories, and coming up with these "accidents" which cause our own history to happen is just a wonderful streak of imagination.

And yes, Frequency is a very good movie. In fact, a lot of time-travel movies are. Watch Donnie Darko (better yet: Buy the DVD and watch all the specials too). That movie is also very much packed with time travelling stuff. Provides some interesting thoughts and the theory it offers (Tangent Universe, Living Receiver) is also quite interesting.

Further, on the name. Conrad C. Quences sounds a bit... I dunno, logical. It's fitting, but I personally like Robin Tyme more. For me as a non-native English speaker, the joke was a bit more subtle, more hidden. And subtlety is a thing I like. :)

Good luck on making the game! And if you ever need someone to help you out a bit, contact me.

Writing is one of the healthiest forms of therapy, so I'm glad to hear writing stuff down helps you a bit.

Wish there was more that I could do for you. If there is, just let me know, ok?

There's only one thing I would hate to see:

The gen-gen forum flooded by 12-13 year old youngsters and all the older members in another forum.

I'm 21. True, it's actually quite young. Although I feel older, always have, always will. All my friends in real life are older, I just don't relate very well to people who are younger than me. But, considering my status in the AGS community, I'm a newbie. I have yet to contribute a game, and only rarely partake in the discussions.

However, I read the posts of the "oldies" with interest. I can't begin to describe how it makes me feel when one of the oldies replies to what I write. It's far more important to me than having newbies respond.

Now, I would hate to lose these rare moments or see a lot of the people I respect vanish from these forums. True, they can still post here... but if they have a place of their own which is guaranteed to have discussions of interest, why come back here?

True, if that is what they want to do, I can't blame them. If I were an oldie, I'd probably want the same.

The mixed feelings this leaves me with, automatically leads me to the second option: Shut down the gen-gen forum. It's a bandwith eating monster and doesn't really contribute to the community.

As far as I can see it, that would be the only viable solution.

Thank you everybody for these helpful comments! The script looks very interesting, so I'll begin to study that one.

Not that I can't script, but I've yet to delve into the more complex gaming functions.

SSH, you're making some sense to me, but I'm really not that skilled in scripting. :)

EXITSPOTNUMBER is a variable I will have to define, right?

Then the complication has just grown... Don't really know much about them. :)

I'll look into regions. Thanks for the suggestion!

Remember Full Throttle? That game had those neat arrows when you moved to the side of the screen, indicating you could travel in that direction.

I loved that, and to clear up navigational confusion within my own game, I would love to do that as well.

Now. I've tried to draw a few hotspots and make the cursor change when the mouse moves over it. This worked, but the problem was that the cursor doesn't change back when I move away from it again.

I think I can overcome this by drawing one huge hotspot around it (the rest of the screen). But I don't want to do that... the normal cursor I use highlights when it's over a hotspot and I don't want that to happen all the time...

Is there anyone who has implemented such a thing into his/her game? And willing to help me? :)

General Discussion / Re:Yufster HATE Thread.

Being a newbie, I would like to make a reply to that which has been said before. Looking at things now, I can see the reason in Helm's postings. Yes, I even feel ashamed because I have been here for over a year.

I even feel ashamed for making a statement against him before I knew what he truly meant. Helm, if you're still reading this thread, I am sorry.

To continue this: I still have to finish my first game. So as of yesterdayevening (when I first read this thread) I've started to work on it in full strength again.

I guess what I'm trying to say with this is: I agree with DG. I agree with Helm. I agree with what Junc just wrote... Make a game, don't make a mess. So I'm off to do that.

Staying on the topic of Gabriel Knight, have you given thought as to creating your own "internet" to use within the game?

GK3 came up with SIDNEY (Schattenjager Information Database blah blah blah). It was a laptop filled with game-specific information and lots of backgroundmaterial.

If you create a computersystem so finely attuned to your setting, it should be solved... right?

You had me there, for a moment... :)

A HATE thread?  :o Come on, that's excessive. If you really feel this strongly about someone, sort it out personally. If that fails, contact your fellow moderators.

Tact is a delicate thing, and I fear it has been lost here. Helm, I love your artwork, but your personal aspect has just plummeted. Calm down, please.

Gregg Berlanti? :)

But seriously, I've refrained from asking this question for fear of looking stupid, but I'm giving up...

...what's a gait?

I'm Dutch and can't find my dictionary at the moment, so that's *my* excuse, what's yours? ;)

Ok, Vel... you wanted feedback on the e-zine, I'll give you feedback...

I love it! :)

Not too helpful? Ok... just let me say, I loved the review, interview, article on gaming engines and all that... I loved the QfG thing, although I'm still slightly baffled by how much coding it is. :)

That being said, if you ever want me to write an article for it (I've written a few for several different things), drop me a line. Review of an old adventure classic, article on storytelling, etc... just ask.
#497
Lo and behold!

For it is I... :)

Woohoo! Don't know if this was posted long ago (might be, the news isn't *that* new anymore).

But, check out: http://www.janejensen.com/ and surf to the "Games" area.

She's working on a new adventure! Unfortunately, Gabriel Knight is (c) to Sierra, so it won't be that... I think?

Anyway, good to see such a mastermind returning to the craft she's so skilled in!

BTW I feel like an idiot... Grundi calls this game easy.

But I can't fix the last puzzle!

I have the twig, the pliers and the paperclip.

But what then!? :)

Glad to hear your system is working again, though!
