General Discussion / Re:Is it Selfish?

A lot of great things have already been said here, which I can only second.

As DG put it, it's a struggle we must go through.

The human spirit (or mind) is a remarkable thing. Weigh it down, and it takes on the weight, and continues. As long as there is a will to drive it. Face it with strength, which I'm sure you will, and good will come from it.

Take care, and best wishes to your family.

Sorry to hear the updates aren't the cause of the problem for you. I've been working a long time with my GF2 and so far I'm quite pleased. The occasional restart (it's that now for me) I can live with... most of the time.

About the voltages, if you go into your BIOS, under the power management you should be able to pull up a few meters concerning the voltages and all that. Check those. It could be that your 12V connector isn't functioning properly anymore, so some of your systems occasionaly gets without power (once it's overtaxed). This could happen when your GF2, P4, CD-Rom drive, etc. are used when playing Grim Fandango.

The only way to fix it if this is the case, is to get yourself a new power unit.

I have a P3 866Mhz and the same GeForce chipset as you. I had this problem a while back as well, although nowadays it only happens when I'm trying to watch TV on my TV-card and opening WinDVD at the same time...

...I noticed that with SP1 installed, it happens a lot more. Do you have that installed? If so, get rid of it!

I'm also suspecting it is a voltage problem in my case, might be the same for you? Is your power unit still working at the right voltages?

Hope this is *some* help...

General Discussion / BeOS/Zeta support
Fri 06/06/2003 16:11:38
Hey all,

For those of you who don't know, BeOS is an alternative OS besides Windows and Linux for the PC. Currently they're building a new version named Zeta, and I just *love* it.

Now, I'm not technical in the programming field at all, but I was wondering, are there any enthusiasts out there who are busy with this?

Not requesting it, or anything. Just curious.

This looks stunning! Can't wait to see this thing animated and all that... keep it up!!

He seems to have a penis.

Well, seeing he's a "he", that is logical.  But well, to my eyes it just looks rather... prominent. ;)

Of course, it could just be me.

On the character itself: Agree with Evenwolf, it looks cool. The arm could do with a bit more animation. And if he's not really happy with his job, maybe you could loosen his "happy wave" a bit... take the enthusiasm out of it?

Benelux Adventuring Rioting Front?

Makes for a nice one: BARF.

Don't think that's been done before. :)

(But, you're right... all those names I came up with are kinda... boring. :) )

I love this MP3... very clearly a LeChuck theme in there. :) Michael Z. Land should be commended for stealing Disney's stuff. :)

I read in the SFX of last month that that's not certain anymore. THe project has apparently been cancelled so many times, it's becoming very hard to finance.

It's tied to a certain director now who has a hard time securing funding, however he is in talk with a studio which is saying a Red Dwarf movie will definitely be made! However, the company is apparently not very pleased with that director.

Can't really be compelled to stand up and get SFX for the proper article, but that's the last I heard. So there's no set release date, only vague promises.

I prefer template tables over frames. The whole frames-thing is nice for a 1-2-3-and-go website, but doesn't really work on this level, I would think.

Colour scheme... keep it simple. Black on white text, please, as that is simply the best for the eyes. A small menu on top, or perhaps on the side? One my summer vacation begins (4 weeks from now) I'm willing to lend a hand, if you need me.

Colour scheme... how about a purple-white-black-orange scheme? I know it's been done before, but it looks nice. :)

As a major fan of the GK adventures, I simply love the GK interface. Yes, it has its cumbersome issues (as you expertly point out), but somehow it had... style. It gave you the feeling you were operating within a real world, instead of a simulated environment.

The move/operate issue is something which I found bothersome as well. But I kinda liked the two talk-options. I know the "!" one wasn't used all that often, but it was fun.

Operating stuff on the character. I like this. In GK1, for example, using the hair gel to (partly) transform you into a priest was enjoyable. The interface of the inventory also didn't bother me one bit. I liked how you had "Open" in there as well, despite its little usage. Somehow it all felt "right".

But I am a crazed fan of the series, so that's probably just me. :)

General Discussion / Re:Who do I admire list

Harrie Jekkers - Songwriter, comedian
Dutch man. Fabulously simple philosophies on life and killer songs.

Guy Gavriel Kay - Writer
For writing stories so gutwrenchingly good it makes your gut... well, wrench.

Ian McKellen - Actor
To me he just radiates kindness and honesty. Also, hell of an actor.

Bill Watterson - Comics writer
For reasons mentioned above. Cool imagination, great art, etc.

Terry Pratchett - Writer
For having the most warped view on the world (it's flat, for one) but at the same time getting it more "right" than most people do.

Tori Amos - Singer/Songwriter
I just admire her personality, ability to live the piano and be such a personality. People who know Gaiman's Sandman probably know "Desire", that certain red-headed character? Well, this is her sister. :)

Thé Lau - Dutch songwriter/Singer
Fabulous play on words, great performer.

I'm probably forgetting a few, can't remember right now.

Is this group of the ground yet? I wanna join! :)

And yes, I am Dutch.

*joins in on the whining*

Man, how I hate the Sci-Fi channel! I mean, seen the last episode? I was *SO* happy about it, and then those last 20 seconds...

Darn darn darn!!

ARGH! Nemesis a good movie???  :o

Nothing personal, but watch First Contact pronto! (And yes, it is a real word)

Skip Insurrection. And forget about Nemesis.

I have also been an active fan of Star Trek for ages, having watches all the episodes & movies and read quite a few novels (I know, they're horrible) and all that stuff...

...have now given up on the franchise with the horrible Berman & Braga butchering going on with that new show and the last movie... trust me, there's lots of better stuff out there than Nemesis.

Or, become like me. Give up this Trekker business and become a "Scaper" instead!

Then you can whine about people having cancelled the greatest Sci-Fi show ever.

;)

General Discussion / Re:Your idea of Hell

My honest opinion is that I don't think it exists. If there is a such a thing as an afterlife, then I like to think we all transcend so much above this crap that we're all pure and happy.

Badly formulated, but that's my theory. :)

General Discussion / Re:What are you reading?

Actually there have been 2 pieces of authorised merchandise in the Calvin & Hobbes franchise:

2 Calenders from '87 to '88 and '88 to '89.

But apart from that, I'm very very much in agreement with Remixor. :) All hail Bill. ;)
