Ooh, I don't know if I could do the dialog scripting.

I have the camera's and all that, recently got myself a properly Mark-Snow-sized-keyboard (it has 4 keys!1!!!1), so that's also taken care of.

Don't we just need lots of people glaring at each other conspiratioraly (hope I got that one right), though?

If you have a POP-based mail account, download SpamPal. It's a freeware mail-filtering proggie that takes out the SPAM from your regular mail.

It's amazing to see your mailserver go from "23 new messages" to "2 new messages"...  :-\

Just when I thought I was a popular guy.

And it did a damn good job at it too!

I still play that game and BG2 as well... very much fun. I am looking forward to RPGCreator's game, btw... I think it's going to be much better!

*ducks thrown rotten tomatoes*

Calvin & Hobbes! They rule! :)

There's a really good website at http://www.reemst.com/calvin_and_hobbes.

I recently found a new published book from 2001. It had all the sunday comics in it, with comments by Bill Watterson. Apparently there's an exposition about them going around the US.

Ben: Get yourself Outcast. It's probably found in your local gameshop for a very cheap price.

Apart from being done in voxels (I know) and only capable of 512 x 384, that game rules. It is Max Payne, but only much, much better.

A fantastic soundtrack (by the Moscow symphony orchestra), really cool characters and a great plot.

I'm not too sure adventure games will stay dead. The gaming industry is dynamic, and answers the need of the market. It is, after all, about making money.

Looking at the development of games the last decade, indeed, adventure games have sadly been in the decline. We have reached a halt in the market and - as far as I know - there are no real adventure games in production any more.

But will it stay that way? Take a look at 3D shooters. As has been said before, they are slowly becoming more and more filled with stories.

Doom = Aliens. Bad. Kill them!

Quake = Was there a story?

Quake II = Do we need a story?

Unreal = You're crash-landed on an alien planet... Ooh, look at that waterfall, it looks almost real!

Then:

Half-Life = You're a researcher going to your everyday job. Huh, these 3d animated things can talk? They are normal people?

Etc.

Slowly more and more story-elements are creeping back in, and there's even some puzzle-solving to be done. True, it's still very basic, but I can see why the world will someday get very fed up with shooting things. And then there will be 3d games that have only puzzle elements and intricate storylines. And then, maybe someone decides that it's better to do it in 2D and think s/he has invented the wheel...

...and we're back in business.

Take your time, because it is indeed not a very pressing feature.

But well, you already said that. :)

Thanks for answering it anyway, and I'll try and come up with a nice thing to do to the GUI when the person is talking. :)

Hi all,

I recall in Day of the Tentacle and similar LEC adventures that when you had your character looking at something, you still retained control over him. I.e. you could move him around and he'd happily continue chatting.

I tried duplicating this in AGS, but when using DisplaySpeechBackground, the main character doesn't use his talking view. Now, I know that's normal and not what the script is supposed to do, but is there another way?

It definitely has its own style... and it looks humorous, so I hope it's meant that way. :)

Good stuff!

I was able to listen to one MP3 before you overreached your transfer quota on Geocities, it sounded really nice! What did you make it with?

What he means is:

Wahey, we can finally string a couple of MPG's together and pretend it's a game!

There's a store here which has really good second-hand stuff...

A Roland E-35 for 200 euro's? Roughly that's $ 200 as well, slightly less.

Apparently it's quite a good keyboard, and it has MIDI-connectors.

Can't seem to find any controller-keyboard, though.
#553
Have noted both down. :) Thanks for the info!

And N3t, I live near Rotterdam, so Groningen is a bit out of my league... sitting 3 1/2 hours in a train is not really my idea of fun. :-D

However, if they sell keyboard with glowing keys...  ;)

Actually, I think a lot of people are waiting for Harry Potter 5 to come out?

*looks around*

I think?

*can't wait*

Better go get my wallet then and start visiting some shops & eBay... :)

Thanks for the advice!
#556
Well, yes, I can play one. The point is: which one should I get?

There are loads of very expensive ones, but I don't need one that can make sound. :)

General Discussion / Affordable MIDI keyboard
Wed 07/05/2003 15:21:59
Hi all,

Seeing that there are quite a few people out there who make MIDI files, perhaps you can help me out.

I've bought an Audigy 2 Platinum about 2 months ago and have been very happy with it since. Downloaded a neat 19mb General Midi soundfont which kinda beats the standard 4mb one.

So, now I'm looking into the possibilities of connecting a keyboard to the card. I have all the connectors I need, etc... but: I don't have the keyboard.

Now I saw Creative has launched "ProdiKeys" but to me that just looks like crap. Barely more than one octave and those keys look... well... horrible. I've been playing the piano for 12 years now and the keys should at least be real-size.

Now, I also know Creative had a Blasterkey MP3 keyboard out there, seeing it's nice pricetag at $ 100.  For me in Holland it'll be a bit more expensive with all the importing, but I'll manage.

However, are there any other keyboard out there worth getting? Or a Controller as I believe they are called, when they can't make a sound by themselves but only with help of the computer soundcard?

I'm going to read Neil Gaimans children's book Coraline and his short story collection Smoke and Mirrors (both of which have been sitting on my shelf untouched far too long. Strange, as Gaiman is my favorite author of all time, and I've read everything else he's written.

I never actually read something by Gaiman (although I have heard his name a zillion times by listening to Tori Amos :) ). Recently got myself Coraline and finished it in one single evening. That book is coool! :)

If i remember correctly, the only 3D in CMI was the ship LeChuck was on, right?
#560
Ah, yes. I can see how that would have helped.  ;)

I'll indeed keep that in mind... I may decide to do an Interface-overhaul before the game is completed. :)
