These are beautiful, Hobo. Every time I see a post by you in this thread, I look forward to some more amazingness. I hope you go ahead and do the whole lot, walk cycles and all.
Thanks, Gurok. It will probably take some time before I get to walk cycles and animations. I'm still relatively inexperienced when it comes to drawing and consistency is one of my biggest problems. I can manage one sprite, but getting the characters look right from different sides and angles is a real challenge to me.

Guido's got some abs, dude.
;-D What abs? All I see is low-res pixels. It must be your imagination filling in the gaps.

Really enjoyed this one. A well told story with fitting puzzles. I wish there were more games that simply explore the relationships between people without any excessive melodrama, intense action or wacky comedy.
#283
I also haven't played the original or any of the Legend Entertainment games, to be honest. Their user interfaces always looked a bit intimidating and this sort of remake might be just the thing to get me into them. Well done on releasing this!

That's Jim Carrey for sure, isn't it?  (laugh)
:-D I did not intend it to be, but I guess The Mask has fallen and the true nature of the shape is revealed.

Concept: Aaru by DBoyWheeler - I'd heard about Aaru before, but didn't really know much about it, so I was happy to learn some more.
Playability: Heavy Metal Heaven by Blondbraid - I can easily identify the walkable area and exit point. Also, plenty of opportunites for puzzles and interaction.
Artistic Execution: Heavy Metal Heaven by Blondbraid - Love the colors and composition and that demon looks especially good.

I hope that gets the idea across :)
I think I more or less got it, seems like an useful dithering trick for adding some extra colors and blending. Thanks for the tip.

What lore is that afterlife scene from?!
No lore, only an image of my imagination dictated by the limitations of the palette and my pixeling skills. :)
I didn't really base it on any single existing concept of afterlife, at least not knowingly. It's probably a mixture of different media and various ideas that I've consumed over the years. But now that I think of it, then I guess the Blackwell series had somewhat of a similar concept (a portal, outer space etc.).

'negative dither raster'
I have to admit that I have absolutely no idea what this means. ???

Davy Jones: creepy uncle edition.
Yes, everyone should hire uncle Davy to perform fancy magic tricks at their children's birthday party.

And in some countries it's the legal drinking age. Cheers, RoN! ;-D

The solution is available online of course, tell us how you got 30°
I'd like to say that I used my amazing math skills, but I've actually tackled this puzzle before and remembered the answer.

Find EDB
It was tough, but I found them all!

Spoiler
Also, I think you made typo, there should be a 30º instead of that ?.

If I'm not mistaken, then it should be the 16th anniversary of RON today.
So, here's a couple of 16 years later sprites. Time has not been too kind to Davy...

Critics' Lounge / Re: Walker (and mask on)
Sun 12/02/2017 17:49:43
I agree with others, it looks like he's stretching it wider, not lifting it forwards. I think it's because the character sprite itself is basically the same for frames 2 and 3. The walker should get bigger when his hands (and possibly body) move forward.

A quick edit:

[imgzoom]http://i.imgur.com/kB7jJuN.gif[/imgzoom]
I deleted one frame and messed around with the walker size. Not much, but maybe it helps.

Thumbs up on the mask, looks good enough for me.

In the absence of proof, I remain a sceptic :)

I actually have another entry in mind, but considering my drawing speed, it might not get finished by the deadline.

EDIT: Explored the EGA palette for this one. It was a pretty difficult set of colors to work with and compared to other limited palettes that I've used, it certainly felt more challenging and frustrating. Also, dithering is something that I don't really enjoy much or understand very well.

I'm not sure which group we're voting for, so let you pick which one fits. ;)
It's always brains over beauty for me, so I counted the useful votes. Mmm... brains...

It took lots of fiddling and sorting out, but I somehow managed to squeeze four items in my already filled-to-the-brim backpack. I feel like nothing can stop me now!

Come grab your hard-earned bags of pixelated coins!

I would love it if we could get the other stuff mentioned in the initial post (a funky spaceship and a herd of cows) as semi-useful items.

Accepted!
Damn you people and your crazy shenanigans :-D

Loving all the great stuff I see here. That crystal ball would sure be useful if I ever needed hints to solve puzzles. And look at all this hi-tech stuff: hacking computer, floppy disks, cassette tapes and recorders, disk notcher, stealth drone. Mix all that with powerful Egyptian spells and it looks like I'm preparing for some crazy magical retrofuture adventure. Hmm... I wonder if that keyring can open beer bottles or is it just another pretty face? That pulley with a rubber chicken seems kind of a game breaker though - is there a problem that I couldn't solve with it?

...it seems a major undertaking.
Either you didn't read my post very carefully or I wasn't clear enough about it :) I'm not remaking RoN assets, I'm only trying to hone my pixeling skills. I guess you may call it fan art.
Anyway, I don't actually think that RoN needs a visual reboot. Current graphics are good enough to make great games with and as you said, there's a lot of them. For me, one of the main points of RoN has always been its simplicity, basically anyone can join in and add or modify the resources. My style, on the other hand, might be a bit too complex for complete beginners.
