I know you're trying to help, Tabata and I appreciate it but I think you may have accidentally given AGA the impression that it was fixed when in fact it's never been broken for you.

if I make something "original" will you treat it differently than you do PMQ or would you like a few others crit it by calling each game a rip off of FF?

Definitely!

I can come out with something different anytime I want to.

Well, now you sound like an addict...

Seriously though, Icey, I don't mean to bash you. I think you have a lot of talent and you are capable of making something truly amazing, but you're being held back by the crazy way you cling to FF's coat-tails. Think about Hironobu Sakaguchi for a moment - do you think that Final Fantasy would have been the success it is today if he'd made it as a knock-off of some other RPG franchise? If PMQ was wholly original, taking place in a completely original world devised by you, I totally believe that it would be something special.

Can someone who is more familiar with the original please tell me what parts of this game are created by Construed and which are directly copied?

I'm a little wary of giving further critique given this:

Using any art besides the original would completely ruin the nostalgia of the game.

Yea, I'm saving alot of the talk and look functions for last, because they are easy and simplistic.

Thanks.

It's still not possible for me to see my profile information. As before, I can only see "Modify Profile".

My chief complaint is that he never creates anything original. So I don't know how re-releasing his old games will solve that.  :-X

I wonder whether it's only people with custom titles, (e.g. Administrator, Moderator, Mittens Initiate etc), that can see their profiles properly? Difficult to check, since some of that information is no longer visible.

Here's my latest attempt at a down walk-cycle:

And the first go at an up walkcycle, (without any arm movement):

My problem with the skirt shadow is that it creeps down the leg on the inside, making her look a bit like she's had an accident.

o, is it standing in a forest of grass? or is it just, rusted green? Because most bikes are not copper anymore they rust brown. :-X

It's probably green because it's environmentally friendly.

But still, this is supposed to be a joke thread and a lot of people are posting things that are anti-jokes.  :-X

Tabata means that the "Profile Info" and the "Actions" menus are missing from the normal user's profile, (on the left-hand side).

It's less obvious in the compact theme.

EDIT: I'm also getting a frame with "Database Error" at the bottom of other peoples profiles.

Which is what I posted in the 'normal user' images above, correct?

I think so. But you must be using a different theme, I guess.

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=profile

and

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=summary

are identical. They both go to the "account settings" page.

For me, the first link sends me to my profile summary and the second link takes me to the main board index... just as (from the links' appearances) they should?  I'm very confused  ???

That's because you're an admin.  I created a normal user account and it looked different...

Uh, am I an admin? Because it has that same behavior for me...

The link to the summary I put down was wrong. It should be http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=profile;area=summary

But I think it looks good, just the way you see it (like those rotating figures and somebody sees the turn go clockwise, others counter clockwise. It looked funny to me yesterday, but now it looks ok.

Yeah, same thing with me. I was going to do a paintover but I'd looked at for so long, it looked like her legs were rotating or something.

OK, well it's not anywhere near 60% complete.

Just a few things I noticed:

* The game seems to freeze after you enter a name - because it's trying to contact a non-existent server
* You can't talk to hardly anyone, (even when you can, they just say one phrase and that's it)
* You can't look at anything
* The doors in the room with the cat-person in it, (I think that's what it is), can be walked behind
* In several places you can walk on peoples heads
* All the items in the shops look like potions
* You can't buy either type of apple
* When you respawn, the walk animation turns into a run animation
* You can't do anything in the fight sequences. I quit at this point.

There's no substance to this game whatsoever. It's a nice run-around-a-town-and-forest simulator, but other than that there's not much to see. I wouldn't even say this was *in* beta, let alone at the end of it.

I don't think this thread is in the right place. You don't want critique, so you shouldn't be posting in the Critic's Lounge.  (wrong)

I'm not sure that the graphics are the first thing to be thinking about. It's great that there's so much enthusiasm, but before we do anything else I think there's more scripting to be done.

I suggest we start with the minimum amount of graphics to begin with and then we can expand later. I think there's a danger of having eyes bigger than our bellies with some of this so keep it simple: one track, maybe a couple of characters. We began SWARMAGS with a style guide so that everybody's work was consistent, maybe we need something like that here?

Here's a brief list of jobs I think need doing. I've missed plenty out and got some stuff wrong, I know I have. This list isn't definitive, it's a starting point:

Scripting
- Track borders
- Starting conditions, (e.g. 3... 2... 1... GO!)
- Finish line / finish conditions

Graphics
- Style guide
- Character art
--- Sprites
--- Character-select portraits
- Backgrounds
--- Tracks
--- Character select screen
--- Track select screen
--- Leaderboard

GUI
- Timer
- Position numbers
- Map (?)
- Character select
- Speed indicator (?)

Audio
- Music
- Sound effects

OK, sorry. What I mean is that if I click on "Profile", "Summary" or "Account Settings" I get exactly the same page.

Summary actually goes to http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=profile I don't know where "action=summary" came from in my previous post. In my defence I am quite tired...
