Mapscreen from Discworld? Easiest way to have groups of areas and individual locations without bluring the two.

In essence, that would entail a screen that has a map on, at a slight angle so you can get perspective. Then, you have a bunch of areas that can be gone to on this map. The critical difference between the Discworld map and normal maps is the fact that Rincewind walked between locations on this map, walking down streets, over bridges - his brightly coloured clothes helped him stick out despite being about 3 pixels tall. ;)

This is a very good idea, in short. Especially because by wandering around you might activate new areas, trigger cutscenes, and so on. Not to mention chase scenes.

I have no problem with hosting RON on the AGS server, but I think the reason they originally didn't want that was because RON was supposed to be independant and open to games made with all adventure game engines.

However, if the time has now come for us to just host the site on this server, and create a RON sub-forum on these forums, then that's fine with me.

And to be honest, if somebody came to this forum and said "Hey guys, I know that I didn't make it in AGS, but I made this great adventure game" and it was actually half decent, I wouldn't object. Just because we all love AGS doesn't mean that we can't enjoy a game made in another engine, right?

I know how to solve that AMD Athlon XP problem!

Go into your BIOS, find the section that controls the FSB of your Processor and the RAM and stuff. Look for a setting which will say "100Mhz" as a value or something like that - it will probably be below a description of your processor. That's the Front Serial Bus (FSB) of the processor. When you set the BIOS to default by resetting the jumper, you'll have set the FSB to a safely low value. Go to that setting and you should be able to clock it to certain FSBs - 100, 133, 166 and maybe 200 if you're lucky, without going into a manual overclocking mode. Set it to the next highest number from which you started, and save the settings and boot into windows. Carry on like this until you reach the top or your computer fails to boot at all. You should have your processor right back to normal.

EDIT: You should buy a new computer. :)

2011? What the hell are you making!?

A full length Indy game with a team of less than 10 people, iirc.  ;D

I can barely get through half a background before giving up. I just keep zooming out, looking at the background, getting cross and starting again.

I've drawn my PI's office about 20 times over the years.

I KNEW something was wrong when I saw Trapezoid post!

We really should just get a giant list of IF games that you should play. I got a CD with a computer magazine that had 10 of them. One started with you as a photographer looking at this sculpture and it talked to you. One had an entirely nonsensical plot based around colours of a baby mobile. Adventure was there of course. Oh, and there was that one where you were in your apartment waiting for a taxi, and the game seemingly had no end - the only end to the game as far as I could tell was simply opening the door and walking out...

Aaaah, memories. I don't have the CD anymore though. :(

No screens?
It's a three screen game. It looks like an Indiana Jones game.
There's not much more you could disern from screenshots.

5 screens, actually.

Considering it's your first game, it's suprisingly well polished, and learning to code will come in handy when you're pushing for the FoY deadline and there's the inevitalbe slew of bugs! I'd make a comment about how poor my first game was, but I still haven't made any progress in all it's 4 years since I started tinkering around...  ::)

EDIT: So we're looking at the sort of art that we saw from the German soldier and Shelly for Indy, right?

Congrats Miez! Great game!  ;D

My only critisism is the slightly wonky character art for Indy (because his legs are too far apart from the back, and some of the shading is off) and the slightly rough character movement of Indy and Shelly right at the end of the intro.

That said, the game made me chuckle.  :=

I THINK I've completed Discworld Noir without a walkthrough...

No, wait. There was that bit in Act 3...  :-[

We are not posting much about it, but I can ensure that FoY is moving and has a lot of stuff done...  :)

You guys are insanely cruel!  >:(

Incorporate it with AGS more. This is the AGS hub. RON is AGS too, so why can't it have a more permanent home here?

General Discussion / Re: Anyone have Portal?
Tue 16/12/2008 08:36:15
No, I'd agree. The system is junk.

Sadly (as a PC gamer) I have to say that if you want to play Portal at anything like the quality it needs to not suck very very horribly, you can find XBOX 360s for £120 or so. Your only other choice is a brand new computer (for about £350 if you don't include the screen).

EDIT: My AGP slot (because my computer is also junk!) is blue.

Watercooling is for overclockers. Air cooling will be fine.

For a GFX card, you will not need anything more powerful than a GTX 260 or a Radeon 4870.

Well, Communism attempts to break the vicious cycle of Finite Needs but Infinite Wants, right? Now, if we mix that with basic agendas - people want the best situation possible for themselves - then you have your basic flaw with Communism. Almost nobody would give up their allusions to all those Wants they have for the sake of giving everybody an equal amount of Wants. True Communism will always require a change in the human condition.

That said, as a Liberal, I'm an eternal optimist about people. Any system of government can work well. It just needs the right circumstance and the right leader. Democracy is over 3000 years old as a concept, and is the most stable structure we have.

EDIT: Then again, Comminism has never been truely tried. It's been forced (IE Bolshevikism) but it has always required a natural series of events (Menshevikism).

Murdoch doesn't really have that much power -- if he came along today and said he was supporting the Lib Dems, there's no way they'd win the election as a result.

More accurately, we'd refuse to let him support us. :P That said, if the Times, the Sun, the News of the World and all of the other pies he had fingers in suddenly started putting Nick Clegg's face on the front cover, that would certainly swing the vote. It would be like being able to knock on 30 million doors all at once from now until the General Election.

Think about it. Before the Falklands, Thatcher was on her lowest ebb. Tony Benn (Lefty Labour Shadow Cabinet Minister in the early 80's) gets hundreds of letters from concerned Brits saying they don't like the idea of the war. Then the far right swung their weight behind Thatcher, and suddenly the Sun had the word GOTCHA plastered on the front. Jingoism breaks out. If the press had set a harsher tone, then more than likely the Falklands wouldn't have saved Thatcherism.

  ;)

It's lighthearted enough, and it's not going to get put on the front page of the site, so let it be, folks.

Now, off to download AGS and put it onto my memory stick! :D
