Aw sweet, thanks everyone, they were all great entries!  We're already plotting and scheming in the background!

@jwalt
Spoiler
Ohhh, whoops!  I didn't find the cookbook.  I even carefully ran the mouse back and forth over all the shelves to make sure I wasn't missing something, tried walking upstairs, and tried walking through what looked like a door in the back/ground level without success.

Sorry about that, I'll give it another go!

Super fun entries, everyone!  Well done all around and it was really hard to pick one to vote for, mainly because I still feel like I'm tripping.  (laugh)

Here are my thoughts:

Trippy:
Spoiler
Really liked the characters and music, great vibe to it all.  The mushrooms were very Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee.   Unfortunately, like my previous comment said, I think it has a game-breaking bug so I wasn't able to complete it.

A Doll in a Dream:
Spoiler
Absolutely gorgeous graphics, great premise and dialogue.  I always love stories about toys protecting children.  I also thought the tree and grave puzzles were very clever.

Apfelmännchen:
Spoiler
This one got my vote just for sheer creativity and chaos-related humor (I've thought many times in real life that vegetable looks like a fractal pattern ).  I loved that the main character was a Mandelbrot set, and the puzzles made me giggle.  Only question I had was that music didn't play until the very end when the butterfly flew off, was that intentional?

@jwalt Aw man, I'm sorry, I finally got time to play everyone's entries and not sure if I found a game breaker:

Spoiler
No inventory items will appear in your inventory GUI except the charge card.  I got everything from the store, got mushroom, and still can't see anything but the card.  I tried clicking the air fryer in case the interaction would still work to make the DoorDash order, but he says I'm still missing ingredients.
I tried going back to the broccoli and can't take either one of them, so maybe no inventory is stopping me from using something on them?  Otherwise I was really enjoying it and rocking out to the music!

Aw man, I'd love to finally meet you all after 18-ish years lurk-ticipating around here.

Unfortunately I scheduled all my vacation time for the year - we're finally meeting my nephew and nieces born starting right when the pandemic started, and then in a couple months we're finally moving to a bigger place.

But if Mittens 2025 happens, I'll try to hold some vacation in reserve!  Have fun everyone else!

Be ye prepared for the Heavy Approach8-0

Spoiler
Take SHOVEL.

Shovel COAL out of CARTS until you have a COAL RAMP leading up to the CATWALK.

Push EMPTY CART up COAL RAMP.  Oh no, it's a little too heavy and the COAL is too shifty!

Insert PIPE into WHEEL.

Set MAKESHIFT PULLEY against CATWALK railings.

Feed HEAVY CHAIN over MAKESHIFT PULLEY.

Attach HEAVY CHAIN to front coupler of EMPTY CART, using CROWBAR as hitch pin.

Pull HEAVY CHAIN to trundle EMPTY CART up to top of COAL RAMP on its wheels.

Dang it, as soon as you let go, the EMPTY CART rolls back down again.

Pulley it back to the top of the COAL RAMP, and this time, wedge a SHOVEL behind each rear wheel, keeping the EMPTY CART in place.

Attach other end of HEAVY CHAIN to DOOR HANDLE.

Combine LUNCHBOX and FISHING LINE to make a tasty FOOD HAMMOCK for the rat, and hang this near the holes.  This does not solve puzzle, but is adorable.

Load remaining PILE OF WRECKAGE into EMPTY CART.

Pull SHOVELS out.

The now HEAVY CART finally overwhelms the DOOR, breaking it open.

I think the new(old) competition just hasn't been noticed yet is all.  I didn't realize it existed until I randomly checked the Discord today.

I'll try to come up with something!

Quote from: heltenjon on Fri 22/12/2023 08:53:31Congratulations, The GUE! Funny game and a worthy winner! Now how about that Not My First Apocalypse world... ;)

Thanks very much!  Funnily enough, I've been upping my game, finally learning how to do proper 2D art and animation, because I want to release more NMFA games where I'm not "borrowing" online art in a mad rush, lol.  Fingers crossed!

Oh dang, thanks everyone!  It really means a lot.  I'm just glad we all had fun being creative together!  :-D

Spoiler
I felt both Play of Life and Dreamscape had above average graphics. Dreamscape left me wanting much more, which is not a bad thing. Even asked a friend to look at Dreamscape, since I felt I might have been missing something. I found three sleepers; my friend only found the one. Making me wonder if there were more than three? In the end, Worlds Literally came out on top, because that's the one I enjoyed the most.

This was super fun! I absolutely adored the geek humor and the cute graphics. To finish the game, I had to replay it three times (loading doesn't work - you might have forgotten FillSaveGameList() somewhere, perhaps?) but the dialogues are so fun and well-written that re-reading them was a pleasure.
(Also, I'm so gonna nominate this planet as Best Character this year)

Ack!  I never thought to test my save load functions!  Thank you for catching that!  (Update: just fixed and reloaded, turned out I accidentally just made the Restore GUI visible with the main menu button instead of running RestoreGameDialog.  Saves and loads worked in-game, just not from that menu.  :-D )

Spoiler
And thank you for the kind words, it really means a lot to me!  It's just fun doing this with so many talented creators!  ;-D

Honestly, Ponch, I've been around here since 2005-ish and your games are what I think of when I think of AGS games.  You make good stuff, and when I make mine my brain occasionally background-thinks about wanting to get on your level.  Congrats on the release, I can't wait to play it!

And update: My spouse brought this home today, it's a sign!!!

#33
No worries, glad you're feeling better!

I also really enjoyed everyone's games, you all did a great job!
#34
Phew, thank you! 😅 I finished it around 1AM my time and was worried I missed some gamebreaking bug in my half awake brain. 😄
#35
Thanks jwalt!  Making sure I understand:

Spoiler
The star babies came out but nothing happened, like they're frozen and you can't interact with them?  If you mean you can't figure out what to do next, then my hint is that I just suddenly realized I didn't say in the instructions that TAB would open the inventory, doh! :-D

A short game made for MAGS November 2023!

WORLDS LITERALLY COLLIDE

You are a planet who found his own little patch of space and just wants some PEACE and QUIET!

Unfortunately, loud and annoying jerks are invading your quadrant.  Find them and get rid of them any way you can.

Content Warning: Some light comedic swearing, comedic violence, and suggestive sexual dialogue between astral bodies.

Note: There is no sound or music because you can't hear those things in space, guy.  You can't.  Planets can.  It makes sense.  (Also I ran out of time.)

Controls:

- Right click to change cursors.

- Left click to fly/look/interact/talk or COLLIDE!  (And space is vast - click WASD's to start moving, click again to stop.)

- (Collide looks like two tiny planets smashing together.)

- Right click or ESC to skip cutscenes.

- TAB for Inventory, F5 to save, F7 to load, F9 to restart, CTRL + Q to quit.

Enjoy!

Hey all!  I promise I'm still plugging away.  I should be done by 10PM EST at the very latest, so unless some crisis happens, I'll be posting the game within the next 6 hours!  Thanks again for the extra time!
#39
...does this mean we can just make a game about whatever we want because we're breaking your rule?
#40
Thanks very much!   It wasn't just killing me that I'd have to abandon music and sound, I was down to "will I have to abandon a couple of these puzzles just to finish in time", lol.
