Sounds like a pretty good idea, but you shouldn't really worry about the detective cliche.  Most of the time "Adventure Game" means "detectives who walk around and use stupid/funny objects to complete small quests often involving broken machinary and long term puzzles"

;D

I can't really critique it right now, because I don't know what happens between parts.  So far it sounds good.

things like the fire and the '1' are trivial, I'll fix them later or redo the entire room for all I care.  I just want to know what you think of the art work.
And sorry about the two different topics, I didn't know what to do about it.  Should I just put the sprites on this topic and leave the other one?

My first and favorite room...
(my older brother made it for me on Photoshop)

Next is the intro room, i made on Microsoft Paint...

The inside of the main character's house, made with The Gimp.

The game is about a goose who's a superhero to the other ducklike animals.  He will have to destroy several monsters with simple quests and eventually an evil giant villain.

My least favorite puzzle is one of those things where the answer to your problem is staring at you in the face, yet the only thing you can do is click in random spots and hope you land on the right thing eventually.  There really is no thinking or anything involved aside from dumb luck.

I'm new to AGS forums, and I figured it might be a good idea to learn a few things with programming by making my own game.  I'm not making anything too complex, but this is the first picture of the main character, a superhero goose (don't ask me why, that's just how it is).

My older brother made the picture for me, as well as the first room.

It was made using photoshop and a basic shape made on microsoft paint.
There's another picture of a capeless goose, but I don't have it with me right now.

I got everything you said we needed for the scroll... but i dont know how to make it all work.  I think the "Stick It tm might have something to do with it but i don't know for sure.

EDIT: Never mind... its not the stick it...

My brothers and I used to play the game "Worms 2," and the most powerful weapon you could possibly get was the concrete donkey, where it would make loud braying noises and utterly annihilate the worms around it and destroy the ground beneath it.  One day I called it the "Nipper Strike" for some reason (can't remember why) and used the name Donk_E_Rounda (nipper was supposed to be his pet) for alot of things account names after that.  Eventually I started to just use Lord_Nipper, which became King_Nipper after a password mishap.

I think it was that game about how bluecup ran away from CJ and you had to track it down.  I remember enjoying it thoroughly, but I really don't remember why...

I just have one more thing to say before i'll leave you alone, niko  :)
It might be a good idea to give your character in the beginning of the game all of the things he already needs to win the game, but no idea of what to do with them.  Then the alter ego could kick in and set everything up (by setting up puzzles and such) so that your character will retrieve everything and figure out how to win. (or vice versa, where you alreay know the truth and the alter ego sets things up to lead you in the wrong direction)

A few comments here:
First of all, the idea of the game overall would be pretty good.  However, it might be a little bit too complicated to get done.  Like, for example, if the alter ego kicks in on a meter and the alcoholism is required to go on to the next level at all times it might be difficult to work through.  It might be a little bit easier to make the MPD kick in at specific times, like after you drink yourself to sleep or in the middle of an important stage of your mission.
Plus, it's a great concept for a game but what is the plot going to be about? Before you even start to put in all the bells & whistles to make your game look good, you might want to think all the puzzles through (my older brothers have failed at many game attempts because of that).  Also its better to have at least one smaller game done first so you know the AGS basics.  It doesn't have to be great, and doesn't even need to have more than one puzzle.

My favorite adventure game puzzle was in Quest for Glory 1, when you had to knock over the candelabra, swing on the chandelier and slam the door shut when the bandits brigands came.  It required percise timing, nimble fingers, and it was one of the few things the hero did without looking like a moron or falling on his head. ::)

The Rumpus Room / Re: How did you find AGS?

My older brother was making an adventure game a while back, and I came to AGS a while later (remembering the website my brother used) to find some good games to play, ended up downloading the editor and started some stupid short game about geese primarily based off of QFGIV backrounds and googled images.  I deleted all of the game, after realizing that doing that was pretty much illegal, and got punished for a few months.  I came back, after i forgot my password, and created a new account.

I am the KING NIPPER! ;D
I just joined AGS, planning on making a game to try to learn a few things.  I already started a game revolving around otis the goose, hopefully I'll go somewhere with it and finish it as a short game.  So far just an intro and two-room game, but it's going somewhere.
