Artwork update

Finished created all the enemy artwork and now I'm starting to proceed into placing things into the game. Need to do this first to make creating the battle system less stressful.

Well, there are many uses for coconuts:
Spoiler
You can shoot them out of the Official OSD Cannon
[close]
Spoiler
you can have them as a nutritious snack for HP
[close]
Spoiler
you can combine them with other inventory items to help you escape the island
[close]
Have you got the chest open? Happy to hear your enjoying it :)
P.S. That drawing may be nice, but the Dennis I know would never save that kid!

Lol I guess I just suck, I believe I maybe missing an item but I digress. I'll eventually figure it out and beat the game.

Also I want to take the time to update a that all the scenes for the game have been done and if anyone is interested in lending a hand at some testing or spell-checking then let me know. I'm currently starting work on the battle system I just got the chance to sit down and put together a sample set up to test things out in AGS and poorly written explanation that you may or may not be able to read that will give you an idea of how it works.

I saved this part for the very end because once I'm done with it I know I'm gonna need a hell of a long break and I want to make sure that feelings comes just about at the end of the development.

haha everything is being made in AGS by the power of code-enhancing drugs XD
And you should make one, the more the better. As for DLC, we will have 2 cubic tons worth. Can you compete with that. ;)

Side note: Next update to come on Nov 25!
I've brought my OSD to the battle lines, with many DLC!!11!!!!111!

Now where is your OSD hiding Icey?

Spoiler
Although my game directly confronts the alternate universe, no actual insult is intended.. it's all in good fun.. and I stole some art from you  :-[ ..

My Dennis, in the end, kicks your Dennis' ASS! :P

haha nice you actually got to make it! More OSD games FTW. I gotta admit I had a bit of trouble playing cause I couldn't quite understand what to do but I made it up to the Chest area before I had to just put it away until later. Could you tell me exactly what I'm supposed to do with those coconuts? lmao

Also it's the 5th and I was supposed to have something to show but unfortunately this week has been quite busy for me. But that doesn't mean I haven't made good progress and the game is looking up to come out soon. I'll be dropping progress reports here and there at random from now on until like the last week of the month.

Here's the latest trailer, the -Progress- trailer. Inside and out of the game one of the biggest term that flows around this game is progression and Dennis is all to familiar with the term in game as he races against time to save 4 captured children who trapped underground with a mysterious man who plans to experiment on them and drain them of all their life force and use it to rule the planet.
These children are not ordinary kids as each of the little ones bare a fragment of the Water Goddesses power and thus hold an extraordinary gift that could destroy nations if exploited and used in the wrong hands.

Lite update!

Rooms are 100% finished, all the floors transition smoothly between each and they can go to battle rooms and back flawlessly.
Next thing up is cutscene work and then that's it. Once that's done I'll hand the lines off to my Voice Actors and begin work on the battle system.

As another thing to make this post more special than just me rambling on about mile stones. Here is an imagine of all the characters in the game.

....That is all.

Lite update!

Rooms are 99% finished, they will need minor tweaking later but they work fully as expected nonetheless. The transition to and from the battle room very nicely without any current flaws.

i should also note that I have sat down today started storming up the concept for the battle system and even that is starting to show that this will not only be a nice looking system on screen but one that's not so hard to create.

Here's a little look at the transition animation I created for changing to the battle room. Was gonna try to pull off that FF screen spin or something but I started having second thoughts about how it'd look even if I faked it. And I this one works just fine.

Heya guys, so I'm finally finished with creating a room that I plan to use as a template for other rooms and right after I try to assign the temp a name I get this odd error below.

Quote---------------------------
Adventure Game Studio
---------------------------
There was an error creating your template: ERROR: unable to open file for writing
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

I don't know if it's my version of ags(I'm using 3.3.4) or what cause I've never had this problem before and I'd hate to have to recreate every room over from scratch.

UPDATE
Nvm, I fixed my own problem. It seems AGS worked better coming from a folder in my Docs rather than Program files. Probably didn't have permissions to write files or something...

A look at some of my latest work on the game, rooms are now 50% complete with more progress to come tomorrow of course.
I've cleaned up most typos except for anything that comes before 1:00. So any visible typos or words going off screen is something I'm gonna fix later. Except for that actual moving text, that is something I can't wrap my head around why it can just stay fixed on the screen, if anyone knows how to fix that well I'm all ears.

That's not upsetting, thanks for pointing those out. As always, it's me going in solo on this sometimes late late at night so I sorta try my best to get the core elements complete and outta the way, and then there's school...but that's a another story. All in all, thanks for pointing that out. If that's the only problem then I'm sure I can wipe those out and get back to the rest of the game.

There's a nice explanation to why things are the way it is in the games documents which you can find throughout the levels you explore. In fact, I've always taken OSD games serious when I've worked on one, aside from a few. The only reason it was never noticeable is because I lacked the scripting skills to display any of that stuff or I just didn't complete anything. But now I'm more than sure I can get this game done and outta the way. It's not traditional in terms of OSD but it is in terms of an Icey OSD game. :)

Speaking of which, there is a serious lack of OSD games lately so I thought something that had some relativity to the series would be nice, especially considering the fact that it's the 5th Anniversary...

It's a story related GEM, it's not actually broken until after using it. It's to make a special room open up.

As for Ray, I'll probably have type of reference to him. I think I have an idea but I gotta see how much time I have at the end to add anything extra. ;)

Keep in mind, the Dennis you see isn't the normal Dennis but the Dennis from another dimension. He doesn't really know Ray.

Some progression shots of the game running in AGS. Last time I showed shots from asset setups in Photoshop. I think it's looking nice and it's all coming along very smoothly.

Also here's some artwork put together for you guys:

Hehe yeah, Imy getting better and grammar but I gotta say, rushing to  write all this before 12 was hectic because I lost track of time so I tried my best but it could be worse XD

To be honest though, I'm soloing this game right now just like I've done in the past but when it comes to music I'll have to message someone and I was thinking about asking Monkey for help with scripting the battle system while I develop the rest of the game to ensure we can release it by the 25the or the 31st of December.

We'll see what happens but for now I'm just trying to work as hard as I can to see it to the end. I'll have more to show soon. I would say that the game is about 25% finished with 80% assets just needing to be placed into the game and coded to function properly.we'll see what Nov.15 brings. :)

Why not have demo that comes installed featuring a game that is created from a team project? Sorta like how Draculator II: Byte of the Draculator came to be. Someone could helm the project and start it off in the Recruitment forum or something. I don't recall the premise of the old demo but maybe the game can feature a city with various puzzles to do and some other characters for other AGS games(if their creators want them in their) drawn in a simplified way so that it doesn't consume a bunch of time, or contrast to much with what ever style will be used for the game.

We can all be assigned to different parts of the game to work on just like before and work together to create something fresh as far as the original demo goes. It should also be scripted in a way that //explains in the script what does what for easy and hard functions. Seeing how it's the first thing that comes with AGS that you can crack open and see how things work it could actually prove to be very useful for newcomers.

The long awaited announcement is here!!!1!1

[imgzoom]http://i.imgur.com/kkfCLvZ.png[/imgzoom]

The journey begins in the depths below..

So we all know that Disney's D23 Expo is going on this week and yesterday Square Penix held a special theater event with a special trailer lots of lucky OSD fans got to see exclusively along with a lot of insight on the long awaited Oceanspirit Dennis 3!
Unfortunately there is no word when the trailer will be released to the public as seen here in this reliable tweet.

But what is fortunate is that today Famitsu have released a look into the details that where shown yesterday along with a interview with the games director.

Quote
ââ€" Oceanspirit Dennis 3 tidbits we know so far
-It'll be a sequel to the hit 2010 OSD2: The Lost world
-The devs are trying to make this the most emotional OSD game ever!!1!1!
-The game is going to be dungeon crawler, the team are still looking into how battles play. They said it will different but still familiar to what we're used to.
-OSD3 producer said the game will be an ending of a OSD character, and the origin story of a Pub Master Quest character. We're not sure what he meant by this.
-The devs are working hard to get the game out by the end of the year. It's being created in a way that team hopes won't take much time to create. The director insist that the team are on schedule and everything is going smoothly so far.
-The game will not have any music do to it's tight schedule. Their solution is to allow fans to import there own songs into the game via an external music folder that will play songs according to their name in code.
-OSD3 songs will be created post game and released later as a free DLC pack.

Key Art:

The director wanted to share this key artwork of Dennis and his friend from the game to further provide the notion of the emotional experience this game is going to take you on. You may not see it now the team insist that the feels training is approaching and expect to board it soon.

How the game works:

The basic dungeon crawl of this game is pretty straight forward. You explore an almost 4x3 board using Star Points to unlock more of the board until you hit 0, which will unlock the ability to proceed to the next room. In which you will use GEMS to actually determine the type of room you get, such as a room that offers more battles or one that offers better Materials.
There are 12 floors to go through and though it might not be that hard to reach the final floor, I wouldn't recommend being to hasty or you'll find yourself to have a very bad time. You can always go back to previous rooms if you need to grind for SP or farm for more materials. And the best part about that is the room always clears because you need to use a GEM to enter the room again.
Menus and more:

This is the main pause menu. Looking at this there are 4 things I want to touch upon.
Rank
Rank is just name you get that is determined by how much SP you have gained from battle. The more battles you do the more SP you get which means the better title you get so you can go brag to all your forum friends what Rank you are. (Note: I'd love to see the rank people get from playing the game)
Sp(Spirit Points)
So what is SP exactly? In this game you don't collect EXP and you don't Lv up. Instead you simply gain SP which you can use on the Spirit Board to unlock stat bonuses and abilities.
Class
The Orb class is something that you chose from the this menu, it will which cards that you use in battle have more of an effect and which enemies you take less damage from.
Materials
Finally Materials, you collect materials from battles as loot. Some are more rarer than others but don't let that stop you from search for them as you can use them to convert into SP or use them to unlock Spirit Board pieces...well that's not really optional so make sure to be careful what you convert because some Materials like Orichalcums are extremely hard to come by and there are only so many in the game.
Some more Menu shots:

Interview
Quote
Famitsu: So it looks like your team is working on a very exciting yet ambitious project in the time frame that you have.
are you sure your team can do it?

OSD3 Director: The game will come out one way or another, we are just trying to do something special for the 5 Anniversary of the Oceanspirit Dennis series and the deadline helps push us to working even harder.

Famitsu: Good to hear. Well you've given us a lot of details to take in for the meantime but I do have one question left.

OSD3 Director: Sure thing, I will try my best to answer it.

Famitsu: Who is the young boy besides Dennis, is he someone important to this game or a past OSD title?

OSD3 Director: Well of course he's important, that's why he's in the key art (Chuckles).
But we can't reveal who he is or what type of significance he has on the story.
All I can say for now is the will be more to come when the game is release so please be excited.

The team sent us a promotional Phone wallpaper that features two of the games primary characters.
