Well, I appreciated the MI remakes for the voiceovers, the updated soundtrack, and the nice idea of switching smoothly back to the 'true/classic' mode, but the HD art sucked real bad and considerably weakened the atmosphere.

For Fate of Atlantis HD to work they would have to hire some real artists I suppose, and give the whole game a painted pseudo-photographic look, since Indy would look awful in the style of a bland cartoon.

There is a cheap gag about raping corpses, which might cross the line for many players, but that's a blip in what is otherwise a really charming and fun game.

Some would say those blips are exactly why the gods have created AGS.

GK2 and Phantasmagoria 2 as well.

To be honest I hate not having any direct control over the character and I never had any problems with GF's control scheme.

Thanks, Dave. I believe you're right that the left side might have worked on its own. It would be more balanced and still look nice, but a bit too much like a traditional Hollywood poster from the 80s/90s.

On the other hand you got me thinking that the composition could have been more balanced left-to-right in terms of dynamism.

Finished. Turned out more difficult than I thought, but I feel I learned a couple new things. Comments are very welcome.

The original sketch can be seen here, if anyone would like to compare: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=48852.msg636465353#msg636465353

It... well, the graphics have not aged very well, but in terms of atmosphere and replayability, it is a must have.

Oh, they've aged splendidly methinks. But replayability... it gives you a great sense of freedom of choice - that's true, but I think it's more to make you feel your decisions matter than to offer THAT worthwhile replays.

@Frodo - I actually own Tex Murphy 1+2 and didn't really like the first one.  I didn't like the driving about crap.  Under a Killing Moon and Pandora Directive do look much better though so maybe I'll grab UAKM and see if I like it.  Do you need to have played the previous games, or does it stand alone well?

Starting with UAKM the series gets very very different (meaning "much better"). Tex Murphy: Overseer is actually a remake of the first Tex (the one with the driving crap), but without the driving crap and much expanded in general.

I second Planescape: Torment as a great choice if you haven't played it yet. The first Thief (though FPP) is a superb immersive experience not to be missed as well. Just get over your FPS phobias.

...Simon the Sorcerer 1, Quest for Glory 1-5, Alone in the Dark 1-3, Riven - some of my favorites

The Last Express - visually unique adventure game that also started the time rewind craze in gaming.

From lesser known adventure games: Journeyman Project 2 & 3 (excellent atmosphere and sci-fi tech, especially in 2), Bioforge -weird and slightly actiony moody techno-thriller from Origin, Realms of the Haunting (FPS elements!), Scratches - excellent indie horror game with a slow pace, but a wonderful build up towards the horror, seriousness and a very satisfying ending, Return to Mysterious Island - one of the best and most innovative adventures of last decade - with focus on survivalist and inventory management elements, Feeble Files - very funny sci-fi dystopia from Simon the Sorcerer creators and your choice no 1 if you're an adventure puzzles masochist.

And I must... since it's been just added to GOG... I have no mouth but I must scream.

Happy LF, LF! ;)

Looks wonderful and very dreamlike oraxon. Would be a perfect book cover art as well.

One thing - I'm not sure the shadows-on-beard are 100% right, but I have a poor judgment of lighting so maybe they are.

I'm still not entirely finished with mine. Here's how it looks at the moment:

Once I was for vacation in London and a colleague from China told me I look just like a chicken. I could never forget that...

I'd like that too. New things came up that took priority and I won't deliver before tomorrow evening. :(

For example Snakes of Avalon is a game made with DirectDraw 5 set as the default graphic driver. If the player switches to DirectX 9 in the setup, then all the baselines (as well as transparencies) get screwed - things that faded out and are not supposed to be seen are still there, things that should be hidden behind other things are not etc.

The current version Snakes was made and compiled with the old 3.0 or 3.1 editor. I was planning to updating it to the new engine in the near future hoping it'd fix issues like this one.

Great work so far guys. Sorry, I didn't have time to be more active in the thread.

waheela, your cover art reminds me of the Lupin III anime movies' posters. Gives you a strong feeling of a complex adventurous story to be discovered. I agree with Snarky about the background being a little bit (just a little bit) too plain. Personally I like the characters growing out of the central circle though. I generally like when things in an image are a bit weirder than in reality, when elements are skewed a little bit in favor of composition.

I'll be finished with mine this weekend. I don't want to work on it forever.

We had no usable Internet connection at Mittens, so in the end I skipped googling and just went with the game's art style and my fancy.

I'm going for the comic book like presentation and limited color palette of the game. Though so farI used blacks and dark grays prominently while the game focuses on the whites. I also tried to give it all the 24 hours TV series speedrun kind of feel. A moment before the explosion caught from a variety of angles. It's also all about the hero - in a way.

Sorry, Andail, but I broke some rules - most importantly the portrait orientation. I got invested into this specific design before I noticed the format restrictions (cat pointed them out to me to be exact). So I hope it's OK, but if not just keep my entry outside the official competition - I won't complain, but I'll finish it and post in the thread anyway.

EDIT: Oh, and great work everyone! The quality bar is set high for this competition. I particularly like oraxon's sketches C to F (Polish posters - yum!).

Big thanks from me too guys! That was a hell of a lot of great Mittens.

And thanks very much for the photos, Misja. I've just decided to change my hair dresser.

Coming back from Mittens via train. Soaked with filth, swaet, beer and great new memories.
#77
I'll be coming by train at Ostbahnhof at 11:00 AM. So if I won't arrive at the villa by night, it means something is wrong.

I'm in. I'll be doing concepts with cat at Mittens.

And I was hoping you'll be telling us goodnight horror stories every night. :(
