I actually thought the art in first game was perfect. It suited the game and gave it an unique feel.
I know how it is when you feel like you are stuck with drawings and you just can't figure out what you want... But if you are not sure about character yet, i'd suggest you to move on other things first (rooms, objects, puzzles) and do character spontaneously later, when you'll get inspired or get some good idea that you'd like.
If you'll bother with details that much in the begining already, you'll burn out.

Great edit OSC. I love the snow in your version! I think clouds and moon were better before though (spiral clouds somehow don't match style of the rest pic).

This thread is so confusing. So let's see if i got that right: Yufster is actually Ami, who is actually Rusalka... and she's making a Grim Fandango clone (shame on you Yufster/Ami/Rusalka :)). Confusing...

well as far as the current state of the industry, 800x600 is far too low a resolution for most people, at most of the lans I go to, I'm the only guy using under 1600x1200, and thats because my comp sucks, lol

As far as the current state of the industry and underlying economic considerations goes, this is not the appropriate time to launch a graphic adventure on the PC anyway. So, who needs AGS ;)

Thank you all for great comments!
Now that i was listening to sounds again, i think i'll change the explosion sample- too much echo...

DM- while the coloring is not completely finished, i'd still love to hear if you have any suggestions, ideas :)

Ravenfusion- no voices here, as i don't think they are really needed.

Erwin- good point! I was unsure if it is too busy or not. I think i'll take that Kamel o matic sign off and added an extra second or two before the boy take a photo.
Btw, you are right- Rokus is a publisher of school text books and animations are representing 8 classes.

Andail, Privateer, Spoofer4ever, Shbazjinkens-  thanks again, appreciate it! :)

I tried but I really don't think the head can do anything, I can't really rotate it since he's only 3 pixels long in the head area, it looks like he's moving his head 90 degrees to either side, so unless you have some crazy magic trick that i don't know about, i think his head is stuck as it is
Damn, i was looking at zoomed version and didn't really noticed how small is the actual sprite. Even more impressive how you managed to put so much details on such a little sprite.

Here's a complete set of animations i was working on (and also posted here one of them before). The whole thing is not completely colored yet and last animation is not entirely finished (butterfly aniimation and morph in logo, also some sounds are missing). But it's mostly done.

I'm especially currious what do you think about sounds and coloring (it's *very* simplistic).

Great! My choice is the second one. My only gripe is about his head, that seems a bit too fixed and static... which makes (otherwise perfect) animation a little stiff and not as realistic as it could have been. I'd sway (or rotate) his head just a wee bit.
Good luck on the interview!

This thread has obviously a life on its own. It mysteriously appears every 1.April. It almost fooled me too... for a moment i thought "oh look, i finally finished that game and i didn't even know it" :)

ArboriS- fantastic stuff. I'd have to see both in full screen, but as far as small pics go, i prefer Paint version. But as you said, in 320x200 it probably really works better with antialiasing.
Great character too.

Farlander- must say i like the "improved" version better. The only thing that is a bit distracting are some very obvious Dott elements (i'm not talking about wraped perspective- that's very common in cartoons anyway), to the point, the background lose some freshness and appeal. The elemnts that i'm talking about are especially: path to the school, tree and color choices. The background is otherwise technicaly perfect, so i'd stick with it, but swap some of the unique Dott elements with your own.

Great sprites everyone! So far my favorites are Eric's (fantastic animation) and Big brother's with Farlander's on close second.

Haha, that was funny- good work! I especially liked the first two pages.
What amuses me is, that i'm just drawing similar thing. It's also called Genesis and it's parody on Bible- mixing it with Darwin's theory (of course, since the comic is for kids, the writer didn't go all the way with offensive humor). Really funny coincidence :)

Here's part of one of the tables (hope you don't mind me posting this in your thread- if you do, i'll remove it :))

...but I think that the discussion about "how is the world going" has not much to see with the circunstance that the next generations seems to behave strange for us.
I think that's the same thing our parents would say about us :) Though, this "generation diference" is even more evidential now, that the world is evolving so fast. I think kids today are still having the same problems as we had, they are doing the same stupid things as we did... they are experimenting with things that are available to them.
I do think the likes of MTV are doing more damage than good though...

Oh, and about this "artists" issue- i don't know what is your definition of "artist", but you can be sure, if you have a tight dead line, there's no possible way it will even occur to you to get high or drunk... except if you want to loose your client and pay penalties for drawing a pink elephant with pierced tits instead of girl washing her hair :)

Just noticed this came back from the dead :)

Rookworm3- it's still in work. Hopefully we'll have time to wrap everything together by the end of this year.

Heh, just had to do this one.

Well, some people are affected.  My local record shop (which I used to patronize frequently) is closing because since 1998 when online music sharing began to gain mainstream prominence their sales have been steadily declining and they can no longer afford to stay in business.

Yeah, agree here... even though i don't think that's really (just) piracy issue...

We have around 4-5 mayor record shops in our city (which is a lot, for such a small place) and they are doing good. But as the side effect, some smaller, local shops went down. From outside it might seem that the main cause for this is piracy, while in reality it's mostly just tough competition.

Talking of films... Downloading films just don't make loose money to the cimenas in my very case, because before of the internet I went to cinemas once a month and now... I still go once a month.

It is just that now I can see the films that I wouldn't have seen before, I download them.

I like the cinema atmosphere, and the good films still deserve that I spent money in them. Sometimes I watch the downloaded film (with just average quality, most of the times), and if I like it, I exceptionally go to the cinema twice that month...

That works also for music... I still buy the albums I think they deserve it, and I download the ones I have a doubt about...

Exactly! Before mp3's i was taping songs from radio or we exchange cds with friends and taped (and later, after cd-rs came, burn) good songs off CDs.
That's the reason why i think it's completely insane to even try to "estimate" the loss in numbers...
Nobody sane will spend 30-40 bucks for an album with 2 or 3 good songs.

The same goes for movies. I like going to cinema, as it's not just the movie... it's completely different feeling than watching it on TV. But because of DIVX, we can see movies, we would pass otherwise. If i really like some, i go and buy DVD (as it happened with The Ring).

Farlander- thanks!
Erwin- yeah, agree. I find animation in EEE quite good actually... what i don't like is its coloring. Very experimental, but it doesn't work in my opinion. It just sucks the life out of animations.
SteveMcCrea, Mr_Frisby, Aussie- thank you too for nice comments!

Thank you everyone for your comments so far!

Zor- sure, this is still work in progress. I'll color animations in the end.

InCreator- really? I always kinda liked Ed, Edd and Eddy cartoons.
The main advantage of this style is, that it's a complete joy to work on (and quite fast- that's the main reason i chose to use it for those animations. I have around 4 days to finish 8 such short animations). Clean lines might look more fancy, but they take 5x more time to produce :)

Erwin, OSC, Green Man: thanks! :)
