Here's a little sketchy illustration i was working on..

and here's a version with a bit more contrast (not much though.. as i want it to be more neutral anyway): http://users.volja.net/igorsi1/tilo1.jpg

which one do you prefer (if you can even see the difference that is)?

Hi Yusfter,
Scummbuddy brougth this thread to my attention.
Thanks a lot for such nice compliments! :)

I think Eric already gave you 2 best links.Ã,  Both Shane Glines's and Brian Froud's work is superb. the same goes for Jess's illustrations.. while i didn't hear about Doerrfeld stuff before, his illos looks great as well!
Lately i'm very much inspired by french 2d animation (Triplets de Belleville, La Building, etc..).

As for me..
my homepage is dusting for far too long.. i didn't update it for a few years (talking about lazy ass, eh?)..
so here's some old work i already have on net and am planning to put up on homepage once i'll finally kick my butt and update it:

Great background Darth! It looks great as it is.. but Loominous's latest edit is spot on! Superb.. I'd go with it, as it makes a whole lot of difference...

It wouldn't hurt if they had bigger buubs. *slapped* :P
I'll probably be locked in an mental hospital for saying this... but.. i prefere them small and cute ;)

Interesting to hear most of you prefere the first one :)
Like Erwin i like the second more.. probably not as "sexy" in conventional sense as the first one.. but i think the design is more interesting&appealing. Could be wrong though.
Thanks for opinions so far (keep 'em coming! :)), i'll update this thread as i progress with design!

Thank you all!
About singer appearance.. the project is kind of similar to Gorillaz.. and there's a back-story.. whole thing is placed into some fairty tale world.. that's why she isn't dressed much like your usual singer.

Here's a new quick design.. which do you prefere?

Here's a quick little sketch i whiped together.. it's for some virtual-singer project. I'm not quite sure if i like it.. what do you think? I'm interested in your opinion of character-design itself not technique (as it doesn't represent the final look anyway)..

EDIT:

Superb background! Hope you'll retain some of that "loose" feel in the final rendering.. it's great!

Must say i was really enjoying reading this!
While i'm not that much into poetry, i still like to read some occasionally..
I' d say it was very impressionistic, full of little moments and details.. i like that.
Very cute!

Hey! thanks everyone :)

Moebius- i usualy scan pencil drawing and then color it with tablet

Chicky- problem is, when drawing for work i usualy have to use very strong colors (especially if it's for kids).. that's why i prefer minimalism when it comes to my personal stuff..

Stefano- thanks! yeah, at first i actually wanted to make completely flat "coloring" with no highlights. but then i changed my mind and added a few subtle hints of light..
btw, pic is not game related.. ;)

Al_Ninio- ufff yes.. my site.. update is almost finished.. really!

Abisso- i'm fan of retro style.. i guess it shows through :)

danny- haha, thanks! :)

2 is much much better.. just fix the arms a bit (less swinging) and it will be perfect.

Oh, and Bernie, did you mean "game" as opposed to "game engine"?
He did mean game engine.. MMF is very open ended, so you can program almost any type of game in it as far as it's 2d (platform, fighting, racing, adventure, etc..). The downside of this is, you must first code basic engine for the type of game you are after.. which can be quite hard.

And Bernie, fantastic work! Love the look and feel of it :)
