Welcome to this edition of:

Colouring Ball
LET'S GO ISO

Venus (worthy winner of the last Colour Ball) couldn't find time to start a new one so I have had the pleasure of hosting this one! Hope you have fun with it guys and gals!

Rules:
Maximum of 18+1 colours (use them well! :D) [the +1 indicating the background or transparency)
Outlines must remain recognisable but any modifications are fine!
Although the title is 'Let's Go ISO' it is not a neccessity to make yours isometric, I don't want to discourage entries.
Deadline is 12:00gmt on the 23rd of August

Have to agree, Cobra that is a great piece, would love to see you polish that one up.

(Rather than just a post to comment I reserve this place for my entry)

Well I wanted to post an entry, I'm not sure if it is eligible but I think it is, maybe I'll refine it further when I have time.

Of course... it's lemmings!!!

Hello everyone ;D, I am glad you have given me the opportunity and extended the deadline, I didnt want to let myself be seen as a time waster and given the Sunday night deadline I have worked extensively on this piece. However...Ã,  I was not successful in completing it in within the deadline :(. I quickly realised I wouldnt have the time whilst drawing the first background out of the three I had storey boarded.
Anyway, this is my first ever animation so I have learnt one hell of a lot whilst doing this (in ImageReady).Ã,  Next time I will be working on a piece soon as the comp starts (if the subject inspires me :-\)Ã,  I think the subject matter and the sprites were fantastic for this comp. Great entries also!
I will apologise for delaying the decision for the real entries but I would like to ask for this thread to stay open for me to post my finished entry once I have completed it, or I can simply post it in the critics lounge for you to view.
Here's where I got to (the start screen was something just rushed on for posting, so there is a lack of style there) I'm a perfectionist and hate to see little things wrong with my animation but enough of that, I think you can see where I'm going with this..... Thankyou

[edit][should have looped the main one sorry ???]

If at all possible may this competition be judged on the 15th because I havnt had time to finish my animation. I know it is cheeky to ask and may be against the rules, but if I dont ask I wont get. If not, I will post my anim after it has ended. (I dont expect any special treatment, but I have seen competitions kept open for a bit longer) Thankyou

I think you should quit playing yourself down, you have good modelling skills and you can only improve.
Anyway...
To suggest anything for your room I need to first know what the lab is researching or developing, I would guess you would fill it with more desks or counters and cupboards with all manners of electronic and futuristic equipment in them.
Maybe some contraptions protruding from the floor, Im sure your imagination could fill this room tenfold.
I think your keyboard looks cool.

Goodluck!

Good work, I do like the background. I cannot spot much wrong with it at the moment, upon closer inspection:
I noticed that the floor to the top right does not keep in line with the wall. I feel the lamp shadow should extend to the right a bit more. given the window sunlight.
The table has a shadow on the right of it, I dont know which source of light that is created from.

Just a note, if you post your images in the format of *.PNG, you will allow people to do paintovers without the loss of quality, GIF gives the same effect. Good luck

Critics' Lounge / Re: Black Parade Marcher
Mon 13/11/2006 08:47:06
Hi there, well my first observation would place in question the size of the sprite.  Are you intending to use him in an animation (marching, playing instrument?) because he will will be mighty hard to animate smoothly at 57pixels X 147pixels.

Just a few quick points.
The belt seems to be low down, maybe extend a few pixels below the belt in the center.
The limbs do not match up in size.
You could definately add some shape to his body.
'His' arms seem too unnatural, as the right arm in the pocket is bending some way further up than the wrist. (elbows?)
(maybe do a bit of research into marching band clothing) you can easily search band clothing on google.

Good luck, keep up the good work.

Critics' Lounge / Club badge...

[another edit]
Im in two minds on how to present this in the forum, after searching through the threads (after being away for a while) I do realise it's not in the spirit of this forum to offer rewards and things like that for the work you do for people, many favours are out of generosity. just a note, I will pay the person who creates the badge I would like to use, if he/she wishes.
I dont mean to leave a bad taste in peoples mouths, I am struggling to create something amazing out of a humble badge, that's all!
[/another edit]

[EDIT]
This is a club badge for an archery club I belong to, I have created it from scratch as there is no currently digitised versions of the badge available.Ã,  I dont want you to feel Ive just posted it up here to say, here's something I cant be arsed with, finish it for me. Because that's not what I'm saying, I suppose I should offer more.Ã,  I have an incentive, (if I am allowed) I will give full credit to the winning artist on my website and I will pay the one I choose to win £5 [GBP] or the equivalent in their nations currency via paypal. So if I may, Im making it a competition.

Rules:
The badge must remain its shape, include the dragon at the top, the cross of the arrow and axe must remain vaguely the same. (so please experiment if you would)
I dont mind if the badge was to change size to a degree, if it means a more impressive piece.
The winner will be chosen by me, when I find a badge I would choose to use.
If I cannot come to a decision, I would leave it to the forum over three days to vote for a winner. I would expect then, to ask for permission to use said badge and give full credit to whoever created it.
[/EDIT]

(original)
I have this badge that I havnt had too much time free to work on (call me lazy). I feel I need the touch of the masters upon it, if at all possible.

Ive seen what you guys can do and Im at a dead end with inspiration.
(when you observe, you can see from the top left that it's where the refining has begun)(all arrow including fletching and axe should be gold)

If anyone has the time to play around with this thing (keeping the main colors, as they are club colors) I would be very grateful, thankyou very much all!

Nice work everyone, to all those who cant get monkey's links to work (me included) I found that if you right click and save target as... works a treat
#34
Yes, there are some mighty imaginative work in this competition, certainly amongst some of the finest.

I reserve this space for my entry  ;D
#35
Right, well I started this sprite enthusiastically as soon as this AGS colouring ball contest started.

I had then re-read the specification and discovered I was heading down the wrong road and gave up...
As you can see I went for a more taxidermy route, not quite a shield but completly original. And I kept the shape of the shield!?

So I thought Id share it rather than not enter...
If you'll accept it as an entry, this is my entry.
If not, well I had fun doing it before I discovered the real wants within the guidance plan.

Great shields everyone!

I was just checking out your background, good work!! I was wondering though... Im assuming those port holes are under water but the door also has that blue colour.. so where is that door leading from? How did boxes that large get through a door that small?

Dont think I am nit picking.

I think its great with, what like, 7 colours?Ã,  ;D
#37
Great competition! Fantastic work!

This is Ariel...

I wish I had more time to finishÃ,  this thing offÃ,  (I'm trying to post it but keep notice things to adjust, oh well!) but Im going away tomorrowÃ,  and I have to post it now or never which is a pity....

Not much to say about this one...

I replied to a sprite post and happened to of recently played around with a sprite which had the same template as this one, I however, didnt have the imagination to do one quite as this good. Im impressed.
I really like the way you have finished off the sprite, however, as you know yourself, that is going to take alot of time to animate, I guess it's just a matter of getting on with it.

EDIT since next post
[Yes, I agree that the arms seemed to appear rigid, I was going to suggest that you try to rest the arms back into the elbow joint a touch but deleted it while formatting my post :-\, guess someone else agreed]

[About the eyes though, I believe it is hard to solve the problem with the eyes, you cant make them that much more precise given your pixel restrictions, I would like to see that solved somehow (whether or not it is your desire to make them more pronounced, i do not know)]

Please post your sprite up when you are making progress on a walkcycle, would love to see that!!
#39
I liked that sprite so I started experimenting, same sprite different style.

[EDIT] Since N3TGraphs first post below...

(Hey Vurt, yes of course you can use anything you like from these examples)

Yes true 'N3T Graphs'... lately Ive been drawing and sketching alot more because I want to improve my knowledge of anatomy, I had missed out on that from vurts original post!
When posting that however, i did feel that something wasnt quite right, youve put your finger on it.
Yes does look crosseyed, I dont mind that though, Ive tried to change it a touch though, with him looking in another direction. Could you make it look as though his eyes are normal whilst looking str8 at you?
I had fiddled around with the arms for quite a while, given the amount of colours I used, I just couldnt get it to how I wanted it to look. Any examples that anyone would like to submit, to show me? (I wanted the arms to show a hint of muscle and a tattoo on the side)

I had just done it as a quick outlet of inspiration from the original sprite so I didnt put too much time into it.

I have some really neat sprites coming up for criticism soon though!

From just opening the picture and looking at it told me the proportions are all wrong. The back view wasnt as tall as the front...
anyway
I fiddled around with it and Ive changed a few things about it, maybe you like an one or two modifications?

I added a collar at all angles.
Changed the hair so that its more lifelike with the placement of some side-burn and matched the rear view hair to the front.
Made the side view slightly wider.
Changed hem of t-shirt.
Pockets (Not sure if I even like the way Ive done them)
and one or two more.
(Looking at it now I could do a few more changes but its your sprite so Ill leave it)

Basically a few ideas for you. Good Luck!
