Does it by any chance feature Mick Jagger and was co-directed by Nicolas Roeg? If yes, is it "Performance"? :)

Really wanted to participate in this one, love the theme, but couldn't think of anything to draw.

Congrats to oraxon on a well deserved victory and a great entry. I like how you use 3d creatively and without sacrificing any of the artistic value. Also it's weird and abstract, which is awesome.

Secret Fawful's entry has a great thick atmosphere and I like the idea too, but it could've used a little more polish. Still, pretty good! Well done, guys!

Buckethead, that's right! It's Alejandro Jodorowsky's "The Holy Mountain". Your Turn!

Though Tony Leung is a major star in Asia, so you shouldn't have put so much trust in his Wong Kar Wai connection. ;)

Yeah, I know, he's a great actor with an amazing filmography, I just wanted it to be Wong Kar Wai, and the first shot hinted at the possibility. :)

Okay, moving on:

That looks like Tony Leung, so I would like to think it's a Wong Kar Wai movie, hence - Ashes of Time?

I agree that Beyond Good & Evil had the best combat system in adventure games, but that's not really helpful because BGE is mostly action, and the main problem here is the change of pacing. Also, it's usually not very good when the combat bits feel like a mini-game that's been thrown in the game just to 'spice things up'.

I think that turn-based combat similar to X-COM, Fallout or Jagged Alliance might've worked, if extremely well done, but then it probably has to be an integral part of the game. And it's quite hard to do. :)

Gemini Rue and Blade Runner(the game) did the gun combat thing kinda well, so that's probably the most logical way to go.

General Discussion / Re: Flash brush
Thu 29/09/2011 19:21:26
Personally, I hate the look of Flash's anti-aliasing and total lack of any color correction tools, so you're right to look for something else. Being a tablet user, though, I can't really recall what works well with a mouse (nothing? ;D). That said, Corel Painter is probably the best tool for creating beautiful tradtional-looking digital art. I'm not sure if there's a width variation if you work with a mouse, but you can get something similar by using flat and calligraphic brushes. Nothing beats ink with a good brush, though, so if you have a scanner - traditional is still the way to go. How hard is it to buy a brush, anyway? :)

Critics' Lounge / Re: dark-looking butler

Just want to say that I love the colours of the original - they capture the dark gothic countryside atmosphere perfectly and suit both the character and the game. The hands do look a bit weird, but I wouldn't worry about them too much - they convey the general gesture and no one will look at them for too long in-game, with other distractions all around.

I also like the relatively large size of the sprite - this way it feels more mature (as in 18+ rating mature) and less cartoony. Good job!

Since there were no new votes for almost 2 weeks, and it's pretty obvious who the winner is - I think it will be safe to simply move on and start a new blitz. I'm sure no one will mind, right? Congrats on a great entry and a well deserved victory, zyndikate :)

That and I haven't a hope in hell of creating anything near as gorgeous as "Blackwell Nighthawks" (an homage to my favourite painting in the guise of a videogame? Yes please. I can die a happy man)
Thanks? :) Don't worry, the "Blackwell Nighthawks" didn't win anything anyway. ;) It wasn't even featured in the fanart section for, like, a year. Almost like my Gemini Rue fanart disappeared from it. Nice new design, though, Dave. ;) Yeah, I'm bitter. :D

Also, I'm going to do something even more awesome this time! I hope... Well, at least i'll try to... maybe?

Idea - gameboy - simple and fun
Atmosphere - zyndikate - absolutely splendid [ruined] idyllic pastoral mood
Design - zyndikate - wonderful cartoony design, as always
Composition - zyndikate - well, yeah
Functionality - gameboy - lots of things to look at, lots of funny comments to be had.
Technique - zyndikate - obviously

Adrian's entry is a bit of a mess in it's current state, but it's a good kind of mess, with lots of potential and a nice composition, so good luck in the future!

Ha, French films seem to get you people stuck, eh? ;)
Well, I'll still try  to make you guess it with another hint:
Spoiler
Another film by this director has served as an inspiration for one of the Terry Gilliam's movies

No, not Koyaanisqatsi, or any other qatsi for that matter. And not Baraka either. And there's no naked Sophie Marceau in it. Sorry. Here's a shot from the film with cats to cheer you up.

Also a very nice guess, and also wrong. It's not that old. Think 80s :)

Well, the girl obviously is, but the film isn't. :)

This has to have something to do with Bruce Lee.
It soooo doesn't. :)

Don't want to stall the thread, so here's another hint that should make it possible to at least google this film:
Spoiler
It's a kind of documentary, that says that Pac-man is the perfect graphic metaphor of man's fate. ;)

Congrats on releasing this! I've been looking forward to it since you posted about it in the Production thread all that time ago and here it is!

Finished about a third of the game so far and so far it's wonderful - interesting, charming, not too hard, but not too easy - just the way I like them. :) It really feels like classic adventures did, and that's great. Now I'm looking forward to finishing it and then -  to the next chapter. Great job!

Ok, this is quite possibly my favourite movie ever, but it still might be a tough one, so I'm picking one of the most memorable shots of the film. Good luck!
