I don't remember anything like that in Double Indemnity either, my guess is based almost solely on the lighting setup, which is, admittedly, pretty common for film noir. :)

Congrats on the release! Anyone looking for a nice classic point-n-click experience in the vein of Broken Sword should give it a try, and I'm not just saying that because I've helped with some of the graphics. :)

My first thought was "Double Indemnity" - because of the lighting and the femme, but I disregarded that thought because I didn't see the connection(apart from both films being noir, obviously). Never knew it was co-written by Chandler! But now the pieces of the puzzle have started to fall into place, see! I'm still not quite sure, but that's my guess. :)

Neil Gaiman + games = me interested. Doesn't look like we should expect anything medium-changing, but there's a good chance we'll get a nice story-driven game made from a fresh perspective, which is more than good enough for me. :)

Speaking of Neil Gaiman, I'm a big fan of his work, but I found that the later issues of The Sandman were really ruined by the art style (whereas the first issues are great). I would not like seeing something like that happen again.

Madness! Marc Hempel's illustrations forThe Kindly Ones and Zulli et al.'s work on The Wake are some of the best art the series had. (A Game of You is probably the weakest in the series, art-wise, but the very early Kieth-drawn issues aren't great either.)
Art in "The Kindly Ones" is possibly my favourite from the whole series - I found it more individual and evocative than in most of the other arcs, despite not being as technically impressive and, arguably, not as suitable to the writing. And "The Wake" is quite exceptionaly drawn. Although Sam Kieth's layouts are some of the most interesting I've seen in a mainstream(well, more or less) comic book - there's something about almost every Sandman artists, and that's part of the beauty of the series, I think.

By the way, I know the author but I never read any of Gaiman's novels and I always wanted to. Could you recommend one of his books? Which one is the best? Which one defines his work? Preferably no kid's stuff.
American Gods. Or Sandman, if you would prefer a comic book.

Aww, thanks!

And Happy Birthday to Calin, because I remember it's today by proximity!  :)

A guy I work with says this is "Fireworks". But I've seen that Katy Perry video, and I don't remember him being in it at all. So I'm going with "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence." (laugh)

It is indeed Takeshi Kitano's "Hana-bi" aka "Fireworks".
I guess it's a-guy-you-work-with's turn, then! Please make him register on the forums and post a new movie for us to guess! Or do it for him, I don't particularly care - just stop avoiding the correct answer in a funny, but infuriating manner. ;)

That's Beat Takeshi, and I don't remember those scenes from Hana-Bi, so I'm going to go with Sonatine.

Gah, no, not Sonatine. Wheelchairs, remember? ;)

Not Johnny Mnemonic either, but that is quite obvious, I believe. :)

While amusing, none of those are correct. :)

Here's another screen, which should at least narrow it down significantly, if not give away completely. :)

None of the above. And no, sadly, there are no light cycle beams in this movie. I wish there were now. :)

Here's another screen:

Okay, here we go! No connection to the previous screen intended, although it's clearly there. :)

Wait, isn't this from "The Big Sleep"? And the connection is Ben Raymond Chandler, then?

Oh, nice! Looking forward to this - with mr. Raze's writing and mr. Chandler's painting I'm expecting it to be quite a treat! Loving the slightly macabre feel too. :)

LOVE the look of it - excellent, interesting colour choices, intense amount of detail and a charming hand-painted feel. And there can never be too many cyberpunk games. :) Colour me excited!

I'll join in with the praising of the participants - it's a very impressive lineup of games indeed! Very diverse too, a real explosion of creativity - excellent work, everyone!

And although it was tough to vote because of the high quality and diversity of the games, it was great to be able to vote for many different games in different categories, because they all have different strong points.
Congratulations to all the contestants and thanks for this nice little treat - it's been a lot of fun! :)

Yay! Another delightful episode! Loved all the friendly off-topic rambling in this one :-D

Is anyone angry about the fact that Tim Schafer went overbudget on pretty much every game he's ever worked on? I somewhat doubt that, because when the soulless publisher's money get "wasted" - it's clearly a matter of realizing artistic vision or at least fixing the leaks. And in the end, despite the cuts, we probably ended up with richer, better games than we would've had if they were perfectly on schedule/budget. How is this different? So, Tim's pretty bad at time-management and scaling his concepts, big news, that's not why we love him, is it? :)

And as hard as it is for us to understand how would one spend over 5 million on a point-n-click adventure, remember that everyone at Double Fine is a high-level professional with a solid salary, who work in a nice office with good equipment. And from what I can tell from the documentary (which is wonderful and is alone worth the admission price and then some) - we haven't yet seen a 2D point-n-click adventure of that level of quality, at least in the presentation department.

Double Fine's problem(although problem is not exactly the right word here :)) is that with the unexpected success of the Kickstarter and the hype that it brought with it, this has become their flagship project on which their reputation will hang. That means they need to deliver the best and the biggest game they possibly can, which is exactly what they're trying to do. And that seems like a good thing for us, players. :)
So, don't get angry at them wasting money just because you know the exact numbers. Many games spend more on their marketing. ;)

Quote from: Snarkythe Double Fine Adventure Kickstarter was in part about creating a behind-the-scenes documentary series
Wait. So the backers paid to watch some videos about making a game? How expensive can it be to shoot a short video in the office?
Change "shoot a short video in the office" to "Shoot hours upon hours of high-quality footage in the course of all 2 years of the development and cut it into a comprehensible and interesting narrative" and you get the picture. :) I think the documentary is around 5 hours long at this point, and all of it is very well made and edited.

No, but you're both in the right country and the right year.

I know for a fact that there are people on the forum who've seen this, so this is the last clue I'm going to give :)

WRONG!

Okay, maybe not that wrong, it is Ishar, but not 3. Or 1. It's 2, Ishar 2. But simply Ishar is good enough for me, it's your turn again, Gribbler! :)
