For me, X-files started to suck soon after first season.
The movie was still excellent though

Actually, I don't think that you have to change whole background for perspective fix: I mean, that fence doesn't really matter.

Simply, why does bench have to be lined up with the fence?
You did so because it's simple to draw it in right perspective, but that's not really that important.
Rotate it facing the camera more and everything's fine.

Players don't really care if you have degree-perfect perspective or not; it simply has to look believable and good.

* Perspective is too deep. You would need a lot's of character scaling to make everything feel right. I wouldn't go this way.
* Tree lacks a bit of detail on trunk area
* Grass... doesn't look like grass. Make it cover bench legs a bit and draw some flowers or higher lumps of grass

Apart from this, nice palette and completely usable BG, I think.

General Discussion / Re: I started a diet!

Of course, it's an anti-advice here, but I have never been overweight, not even close.

I eat junk food like a trash compactor. In those 8+ cups of coffee I drink daily, 4 spoons of sugar goes into each cup.
Large chocolate, extra large potato chips, liter of ice cream or deskload of candy finds no mercy between my teeth.
Spending 90% of my time at computer, there's no exercise to talk of. When I do walk though, I move at triple speed and cover long distance quite quickly. I'm never out of shape enough to have any physical trouble doing what I always do.

I don't gain a pound!

My "trick" (or rather a curse) is...
...smoking.

For a long-time chain-smoker it's almost impossible to make difference in hunger and smoke-hunger. So, in most of times, when a spoonful of food is needed, I lit up instead, not realizing which one I wanted.

Don't try this at even worst desperation though: if you're already overweight, your heart and blood vessels are endangered even without extra poisoning. But if we're honest about diets, it does work.

I'm also one of those who wants to gain some weight, to have a bit more respectable body mass: people rate me 4-5 years younger at first sight and no 24-year old likes to be taken as a teenager. Doesn't help in fights neither...

It's functional. You could use it as it is and get away with this... It's not bad.

But I would still improve it a little bit.

* Black icons don't look that good. It's a very tiny pixel space, why not make lovely, colored icons?
* Save/load icon area is quite cryptic. I would simplify that a bit, and have less pixel hunting around there
* Jagged/double-edged black borders don't look that good. Maybe a bit anti-aliasing would help?
* cellular brownish tile on whole gui is a bit too exaggerated and contrasty. It almost feels like it's more important and sticks more out than actual icons! I would pull back on that one.
* If you're planning to make any those... ;) meters, or even a score thingy, rethink center area. Maybe make smaller "bastard" and put meters there?

* Don't know which software you use, but castle bump map might be partial because of improper or missing UV map. In 3ds Max I would probably group whole castle together and apply UV mapping to whole. UV map also seems to fail on tower crenelations
* The ground/sand looks a bit too low-poly and boring. Sharper texture and more bumps could fix it.
* The handle is clearly too large for such a small bucket. But maybe there are toys like this? Not sure really, it just looks kinda weird.
* The shovel looks magnificent. Even a bit out of the place since everything else looks very simple and "doable in few minutes". But shovel is much more complex and... well, if I had to remodel it, I wouldn't know where to start.
* Moving bucket a bit lower on Z axis, through ground plane, would give more realistic look - like it were inside the sand.
* Shadows?

Anyway, it looks quite cool. A bit smoother (chamfered) edges on castle, higher camera angle (too much empty space on image) and it would be perfect.

Nothing much to crit here.
With minimal poly count and a minimal idea, you achieved maximum result making a minimalistic model.

It looks nice, if that's what you want to hear.
But there's nothing to improve or change, in my opinion. It almost feels like when someone draws circles 8 hours a day, for 40 years, and then, one day - draws another circle & asks what people think about it.

It's simply well done.
You can model a cartoony rocket.

Try something more challenging next time.

Sorry to doubt, but is background also made by you?

Considering style/quality of GUI buttons and character, I don't really buy this.

Anyway, with this background, both character and buttons look out of the place. Why not save background in its whole 32-bit palette (PNG format) and try posting again?

Also, note the "How do I post images, smileys and formatting?" link on screen where you can make a post for AGS Forums. Click and learn how to make your image show up here using [ img ] tags. It would generate alot more C&C for your work.

It'll be more logical in-game, where the outside/house is also seen.

Shadow under stairs?

Well, shadows are raytraced-3D-generated (thus realistic), I wouldn't dare to add my own layer of "realism" to it.

I will try to mix up something from mashpotato's edit and other edits. Maybe re-render everything with more materials (currently, only bricks and pipes used material(for different shading), most of everything else was repainted by hand or rendered plain-color) - since I know what are the shortcomings of rendered image now.

Do I have an AGS buddy?
I guess not.

I like many folks here, especially progZ, nikolas, scummbuddy, etc, but no-one I could really call a buddy or have intensively communicated outside forums. Some people I admire though they are difficult to communicate with/we have too little in common: obi, vel, grundislav, farlander...

Actually, naming any one would leave three ones unnamed unfairly.

Many of you are quite supportive about my occasional ramblings,  then again, many are not...
And of course there are some people I could call almost "fans". You know who you are - thanks for making me feel loved.

Well.

I'm terribly upset that there's no PC version. I've played all previous ones and now... this.

I love how GTA IV takes its inspiration from Russian thrillers, such as Bumer and Brat movies/sequels. In one of the videos on GTA IV page, there was even music from one of the films remixed and used...

I would love to play this. Where's PC version?!

Thanks for kind comments. I will post an update (not today though, it's friday & socializing time) in few days.
How do I make this? 3D reference + ArtGem

EDIT: The new version here. Fixed alot of anti-aliasing, shadows, hole in ground and pipe ends

Thank you, I will fix those too.

- That brightly lit wall is indeed facing a strong light source: There's a door to outside above the stairs. With nice summer daylight outside.  :)

- It's a 9-storey 220-apartment flats building. This particular room is place where central heating is. There's less pipes on image actually than there is in reality (I live in city part infested with those buildings). Soviet architecture, they sure did like pipes!

- Yes, I never came to an idea that hole could look like a low wall to some. Indeed. I will fix left edge, also, it will get no-mistake hotspot name "hole" in game.

- thanks for pointing out the amount of most visible jagged areas. I've been staring at this picture for 17 hours overall, so It's kind of difficult to notice things anymore. No more of this "first-impressions" effect.

According to your suggestions,
fixed this and that.

What are axes? I assumed you meant wooden boards over the hole near second room entry.
The wall is fixed too.

Right. After 4 fully-detailed hours-overspent high-hair-cost two-erased-by-accident versions I came down to this one:

(anti-aliased mostly by hand)

That's supposed to be a cellar of a flat-type house.
What do we think?
