Sine wave!
** slaps on the forehead **
I've used sines for subwoofer bass mainly, never tried in higher octaves...
A bit of delay and reverb and...

Yes, very close now.

Sustain & decay characteristics were very helpful, I don't know anything about setting those.

Right, there's and instrument/sample I can't name.
It was widely used in all forms of dance/house music in early 90's.

I recorded a short clip of 2 songs where the instrument is used and would really like to use it.
My best guess is that it's something pizzicato related with some hard effects used on it.

Yes, the bubbling thingy!

If someone could give this a better name...
- or name a synthesizer that had this sound (usual source of common used sounds during this era)
- a site that has this sample for download

or any ways to replicate the sound in fruityloops, like
- what effects to use on pizzicato/3xosc/whatever to make it bubble like this
- or a good VST that can make this sound

I would be really grateful. Thanks!

The songs in this clip are Nightcrawlers - Push the feeling on and The Course - Ain't nobody

QuotePersonally, I do not understand the strange urge to remake a golden game from the past.

I love classics remakes. Mainly, because old games tend to be unplayable, or look & sound extremely awful despite good story or gameplay.

Take Sierra's Gold Rush! for example. Very unresponsive text parser, pre-AGI graphics, RANDOM TIMED puzzles (the damned letter-from-brother one), loads of dead ends... but still very unique and interesting story, which could make also a superb novel or epic movie.

Now give me one reason why mouse-controlled, dead-end-free, redrawn, maybe even with recomposed music & sounds version would suck?

Whoa, thanks.

I'm gonna try the rootkit revealer and run some diagnostics tonight.
If there's no luck, reinstalling windows sounds like a reasonable thing.

Of course, backing up 200 GB of porn important data will be a pain.

I'll let you know how it worked out.

Well, I've used XP Home edition for half a year for now.

And I see it slowly dying. Like, wtf?

First, months ago, at some point, my registry died. All software that existed, got uninstallable.

From add/remove programs (and also with ToniArts Easycleaner), numerous entries are missing. I can't remove programs installed, windows doesn't show them! Next, some software stayed on this list, but there's no more "remove" button next to them. I can't remove them in "normal" way! All newer software installed after this registry crap still get their "remove/modify" icons. But what's installed before breakpoint, is unaccessible from the menu. Well, atleast the programs themselves work fine.

Second, I can't search anything on hard disk. Windows XP home doesn't have normal way to search for files and folders, there's that crappy "Desktop search" program, which doesn't really work. Everytime I start it, it requires to index files on my 250GB harddrive. And it sits there. Indexing. Which will never be complete. I left computer working at this indexing task for 2 days and it still wasn't complete, so I guess that this is broken too.

Third, the artificial matter of pure evil named "Windows Defender" does not work. At all. It either hangs or doesn't open. And since it was installed before registry breakpoint, I don't know a way to remove it. It sometimes decides to start by itsself and freezes computer.

Fourth, most of items in Control Panel won't open. Completely at random. I click, machine hangs a bit, and nothing happens. Or "not responding" event happens.

Fifth, Windows Live Messenger stopped working few days ago. How? Hell knows. The messages, in conversation won't go through. Though, it doesn't say anything. Or they lag for 20 minutes and suddenly all that's been written by other human during these minutes appear on my screen in one big delayed bunch. It's really awful to see a long list of messages which end with "are you there?", "why don't you reply anything?", "what kind of sick game is this?", "I'm blocking you!"...
But more ofter, WLM does not connect at all. It shows error and loses internet connection Gateway. Which destroys internet connection for good, until I restart both modem and machine. Again, Windows Live was installed before registry died - how do I remove it now?

I have no viruses, and common existing adware is your very typical "browsed 30 mins on windows machine", which I wipe out every day.
Like some tracker cookies and advertising.com.

But Windows keeps on dying. Few days ago, another problem started - opening a folder sometimes hangs machine for some time.

Is that normal?
I have this strong urge to wipe dust off my pirated copy of XP professional and replace legal XP home.

Thanks, though it's nowhere near your or Oz's song. Other two are quite cool too...

I simply browsed for a picture to compose for, and this picture started playing a song in my head.
Since it's so minimalistic and somewhat poor track, I hesitated and wouldn't enter at all if it didn't trigger so many emotions in me.
Weird.

Though I have no chance against professional pieces already entered this competition, here's my pic & song:

If you want to host AGS games, ask from their makers first if they're okay with this, or check if games have readme in which hosting is permitted.

Because some AGSers might not like your website and therefore don't want their game to be on site like this.
BTW, is it a webpage or just free space?
If it's a page, where's the link? People surely would want to check the place out first!
And either case, where is it located? Like, what country?

P.S edit your post and remove these awful spelling mistakes! You sound like 6-year old.

Indeed.

Awesome? True...

but!

* Though there cannot never be too little saturation, and desaturated colors are foolproof way to make something nice, I still think that this character needs some stronger contrast and saturation. Why? Because he looks like he's outside, while it's ultra foggy, yet sunny day. I can't imagine this character in any room or elsewhere but in thick fog. Think about it. And take a look at characters from The Dig. They have WAY stronger colors.

* He totally lacks any expression, or to say clearly - a face. You have very little of pixels for his face, threrefore editing it isn't hard job at all; it's time to make something good out of them. If you have 3 male sprites like this, how can you tell who is who? Rearrange, widen eyes, or maybe check out other people's sprites to find out how to use these so few pixels well to make a character unique. Some extra shade colors for head would also do a trick. For example, you could make his cheecks lighter and use the dark skin shade around eyes. Or vice versa... Since your new, I can reccommend you some local SpriteMastersâ,,¢ whose works are well worth learning from: users ProgZmax, Big Brother, Darth Mandarb, etc... See their various threads and competition entries and you'll surely pick up something.

* Em, hard to explain, but look at his hand. Right one. The area where collar ends and bare hand starts. See something wrong? Hand inside the shirt goes one way and as soon as shirt ends, it bends heavily!
Fix this too.

* I believe drawing left hand was difficult task, but you don't need it so much visible, which could also solve the problem of figuring out how it should go.

* People tend to have lighter forehead. Using dark hair shade next to dark skin shade makes this character wearing a wig or something. Try to work around...

I've always imagined Far Cry to be a name of a comical adventure game where protagonist is locked into toilet and no-one's around to open the door  :-X

Words "Quest" and "Shadow" are worst ones to use.
But I think that it's not the used words that count, but a thing name is applied to.

It would be nice, if name would give game a meaning, or describe something from game. Even better if this something isn't described in any other ways but by game name.

For example, my own game: "Henri: Don't drink & drive!"
While it sounds random at first, it will describe a witty happening in game. Henri, the protagonist - goes to a drag race with friends and before going, he drinks a bottle of cola. Other character jokes about drinking and driving, yet cola is not alcohol. But still problems happen: when arrived to a (illegal!) drag race, henri needs to take leak due cola, wanders into a forest and gets lost. During this, police arrives at the race and of course, racers run away. Now, when Henri comes back, he finds only police and loads of problems infront of him, which triggers a whole adventure (a game).

So the title has a meaning, though in a strange way.

In my game there's 2 locations: one infront of the club and another inside.
Now, I made one background track, and muted version also. Muted version has more bass and less mid/high range sound, so it would sound like music is playing inside the club.

What I want to do is that while character is is outside, muted version plays, and as soon as player enters club, original one would play.

Problem is, both tracks are exactly the same length and content, but I want original song to pick up playing where muted version was stopped due location change. How could I do this?

I'm using "music continuity" plugin and this may interfere with my plan also... :( Though, crossfading from bass version to original and vice versa could sound even better than simple change.

Sad that AGS doesn't support any equalizing or VST plugins yet...

All said, case closed.

P.S. Gold Rush rocked! I wonder why there's no remakes to this gem. In this particular title AGI graphics is as bad as it could get, though King's Quest and LSL series look way better... was it other artist back then? :(
