QuoteYou can actually lower yourself on a ledge, and then press the opposite direction from the one you're facing, and little Heart will let go of the ledge and turn in midair 180 degrees and catch on to any opposite facing ledges.

It's possible in... Flashback?

I've played through this game like 7-8 times... and didn't know?

I personally don't see much point in this. Did creators try to bring new generations to this old classic? Well, I think they fail here.

Simply because new age needs better graphics, and in means of thousands of polygons, not some overphotoshopped low-res images.
Which actually makes vector graphics stand out more - and look more weird.

And for oldschool lovers (such as myself), this game gets played even without remaking - simply windows port could worked - and they have also tried out most of the console versions aswell...

Well, the new backgrounds look damn good.
But the sound... is it exactly the same? Sounded so...

I liked the idea and the backgrounds, but I wouldn't pay for this.

General Discussion / Re: Dosbox help please

Sound  lags because  you have  TOO MUCH cycles!
Normal rate of CPU cycles for DOS games is between 2000 and 8000. At 6000 and over,  many games start  to lag sound.
Try to find cycles where sound plays well, then add until it starts  to lag. So you'll know how much is too much.

Quote3. Should I even continue making a full game if I get 30/100? That must be one of the lowest scores for a game here at AGS...

What game? It was only a demo yet?
Low score because you don't have  much to rate yet. I rated the game itself. And be realistic - there's even less of it than in usual short  AGS game yet, right? But if I'd rate your idea,  courage and ambition, you would get  355 out of 100 points  :D

Go  on, finish  it! The project itsself  rocks, as long as you  pay attention to weak spots and fix them all.

Hm. A nice demo, that is.
But...

* I expected more language for next release... you have STILL no text in game.

What's the point in this?

"Look at Nazi car"
...
"It's a Nazi car"

"Look at uniform"
...
"It's an uniform"

:P

Who needs this?

Indy should describe things he see, give clues what to do, etc. For example, he COULD have said that "This candlestick seems to be a bit loose" which would give player some idea what to do next. And so on.

If orginal Last Crusade lacked hotspots (billion empty rooms!) then your game lacks also any interaction with these hotspots.

* Power meter in fighting seems to be pointless, aswell as blocking. I won both rounds just by tapping "9" rapidly. You might want to improve your fighting system. Also, don't forget to add some way to skip these fights, like superpunch in Fate of Atlantis, or something like that.

...and combos and fatalities and super desperation moves and...

*  Walking IS too loud.

* Try to recycle less graphics. Seeing identical locker twice is kind of weird. Also, if Indy says "I can't open that" to something that should be opened (like a locker?), he'd better explain WHY he can't open that!
Also, DO NOT use inventory items from previous games. Seeing the orichalcum statue was very.... strange.

* In the demo (both) I had no clue what is Indy doing or why. Why did he go to airport? What did he want to do? Board a zeppelin? Plane? Etc... I mean, tell a story too!

30/100
Other 70 is reserved for improving everything. And the rest of the game!

After going through horrors of searching for anything to make 3D games onto, and tasted all kinds of awful software, I can assure you that there's no better thing like Blitz Basic / Blitz3D. Actually, it's the most usable 3D engine at all...

If you're going for RPG, something realistic-like, and choose Blitz3D, see following link and try demo. I think that it'll help you big time.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Paintover time

Nice BG but I think that lighting needs more work:

* The textures and ceiling is actually a bit dull and boring. Proper lighting would hide and/or improve it.

* The staircase is dark, therefore - it's dangerous. If someone plans lights, stairs are always lit so people see where to walk.

I find map... well, if not very useful, then atleast very interesting. Point is, the map is veeeery separated from true AGS community.

Take a look at your favourites or whereever is your most-used link. Where *does* it link?

Spoiler

The forums. I personally end up on main AGS page only by some unexplained incident, even if I needed to redownload AGS, I'd check latest version form Tech forum. If I wanted some new games, well, Completed Games Announcements that is. And NOT the main page, where the link for map is located.

So - it stays away from everyday doings. Since I registered 3 years ago, I don't know much about registering, but if not - it would be a nice idea to link new members - after registering - to map too, so they could place their location.

Checking now, I notice that there's already 8 other members from my country... huh!

By CL - I *did* mean Critics Lounge.
I'm a CL resident since 2003 so I rarely use full name nowadays.
But why visiting it?

Simply because in game, there was some mistakes (both in backgrounds and sprites) that are most commonly pointed out whenever someone posts something at Crits Lounge. Something like where typical C&C starts from.

If you avoid CL just because you want to keep characters/details in secret, post a sketch or equal sprite... for example, you could have posted a woman sprite similar to Alice and our artists could showed you the way making her better. And then you could make your Alice according to tips you got for this random-female-sprite.

Or simply browse other female sprite posts people have submitted (there's million of them!) and take tips from there.

What I mean is Critics Lounge is endless library of art knowlegde and it would be stupid to ignore that. Ignore ProgZmax's way to give characters very original and detailed look, Bigbrother's/Farlander's minimalistic photorealism, Darth Mandarb's way to make things cute.... etc.

Also that BJ games are my personal favourites (among very few at all) in AGS games and it's a bit sad to see otherwise very solid and compact (i mean, commercial-like) game to suffer under very basic problems that could have been easily avoided.

But all that explaining rolls the problem bigger that it actually was. And BJ5 still IS a great game.

Hm. Finished and liked. Quite.

It's definetly one with highest quality in BJ series, but also quite easy one - I never needed any hints and there was only 3-4 hard points in game.

Two things bothered me quite hard:

The overall mega-depressive mood in the game ruined it... I can't understand was it your own depression, Grundislav, or intended one.

The puzzles, scenes, and other doings feel way TOO much like original Gabriel Knight game (newspaper reading, police officer, nightmares, costume puzzle, map...)

Otherwise, a nice solid game, and like others, one of higher-quality games among AGS games.

I could repeat the same suggestion list you've already heard, like "Visit CL once in a while", "add pointer pixel to inventory items", "use less blur", etc, but you ignored this when I said so after previous games, so what's the point... Anyway, Alice looked quite awful (fat and well, extremely unsexy), and BJ's new outfit (pointless pants) sucked too... but other characters were quite fine, and closeups & animations are better than before.

The music was very good, but a bit too depressive aswell. The type of music in sushi restaurant was something that I'd use in many other places too, where theme wasn't too serious for this. I found myself wandering in restaurant just to hear music and pump up the mood...

What can I say? More! But take a break first.

I'd suggest Max Payne (both parts), Hitman (all three games), Fahrenheit... Landmarks? Hell yes. But they are not very educational. Especially if you're buying them for your kids....  :P

Hey, there's NO educational quality games being produced nowadays.

Sounds like a shop trip for Sims 2 and some boring RPGs.

People still love racing games though - and there's lots to choose from. Last 3 games in "Need For Speed" series are quite cool. (NFS:Underground, NFS:Underground2 and NFSU:Most Wanted).

Spoiler
But for some sick violence fun / real chills - try Manhunt.

Nah, just rambling :D

But a true Russian would take it very seriously. They're EXTREMELY sensitive. For example, you may be friend with someone for 100 years, sharing everything... and this can be simply ended if you have a good (silly) mood and make even a simple, innocent practical joke on your friend... That's kind of unsecure thing about them.
#1815
To clarify: I'm NOT a Russian, neither live in Russia. Estonians could be easily mistaken by Finns, but Russians are waaaaay another people, culture, language, etc, etc. Then again, it's only 180 km to border of Russia. And about 40% of our local population is Russian (Well, in part of city where I live, 90%  :P).

Stupid hats and dance? Well, every nation has hats and dances. But as with others - things like this could be seen only at a folk festival.
Described hat and dance applies more to some far-eastern nations, like Tatars, Mongols, Georgians, etc, not Russians, btw.

#1816
Well, I'm quite bothered by the fact that in EVERY Hollywood movie, when Russia is shown, it's... SNOWING. Especially in Moscow. But fact is, summers there are much hotter than many other places in Europe, 25-30 degrees Celsius is no miracle.

Also, I haven't seen a movie with REAL Russian language spoken. Always some horrible, not-understandable mess that only a true yankee would buy (in some movies, Bruce Willis himself tried to speak some, this is what ROFL really means...). This always led me to an idea that getting a job in Hollywood as a proper culture portrayer/critic and language specialist would be a piece of cake. Man, they're so dumb...

Warriors of Oz???  What?
This bg has "Sherlock Holmes" written all over it!
Thinking about it again, same (I mean - extremely similar) bg featured in 2 sherlock holmes games.

I like it! But house wall need a bit more detail, bricks or cracks or something similar.

This is still Worst/most disgusting thread. Or atleast, Kinoko's photo was. *Yegh!*

Thanks for opinions, everyone.

Jones in the Fast Lane remake? Yes, kind of.
One room game. Correct too.
And I keep it at 640x480 so buildings stay quite small.

Remake, but with 4000% of addons, new places, multiplayer tactics, etc.

I had all kinds of cool ideas with this, for example, there's criminal and lawful ways of life - and this could effect hotseat multiplayer - i.e. one player is an advanced criminal, so he can rob other player's apartment or random place in town. Or vice versa, other one is advanced policeman and can arrest other player in some way, etc.

This possibly leads to two respect indicators, social and criminal one - like in Pizza Tycoon.

There could be government-type career, where in the top you could become  a mayor - thus managing everything a little bit in city (and bully other player by applying pressure everywhere, like on university to increase enroll cost/ or close place down temporarily - just when other player needs to learn to achieve something or even win :D). Government people should get stock tips and hints on upcoming inflation crashes too ;)

Working in any place gives benefits tied to the place, i.e - working as a car dealer would give you cars at cheaper, working in a rent office you can save - let's say 10% of monthly rent, etc.

I also wanted to make a casino, but I'm not sure that I could figure out how to make few casino minigames in AGS.

There's also Game Maker (*sigh*) and I would be much more comfortable with it, since it feels more customizable for this type of game (quickly made variables and GUIs plus scripts everywhere). But I keep switching engine as extreme measure (eww, crappy pathfinding in GM). After all, learning all this stuff CJ added to AGS is something I have to do anyway and project like this needs a lot of manual reading. Which gives tips I can use for Henri later.

Well, I'm not taking this project too seriously because Henri is starting to feel like FOY already - 1,5 years and not ready yet! But this would be still a cool thing, I think.
