What the hell is "techno type music"?
People who can't tell difference - let's say - between trance and house and call every synthetic piece of crap "techno", better shut up or educate yourselves first.
No, it's WAAAY not something anyone could write.
Yes, some genres of electronic music sound like they're MADE for game background music. It just depends on genre.

Er... Firefox?

For game developers weak at story/character creation (such as myself, *ahem*), this would be superb aid. Easiest way to get realistic characters is to use real ones! Well, prototypes.

I think that if this project will become real, every member-character needs a bio. Like maybe a webpage database (AGS wiki section maybe?) where all available characters are, with their characteristics. Maybe something like

(random example of myself)

name - InCreator
type - artistic, creative, introvert ( silent artist guy randomly making jokes )
personality - messy, unpredictable, strong sense of humor, perfectionist
important points about appearance - jeans, sneakers, hairdo

etc...
and atleast one sprite of course, and CHA file.

On RON site, there's something similar, but when we're using real members, this personality detail matters more. So games won't totally picture someone absolutely wrong.

The location? Well, I never got into RON, especially since the main game area is RON town, which I can't and don't want to use in any of my games. Even though I like the characters.
Location, IMO, would be better if it's not set. So everybody could be free to add something good. But traditional places could also always be there, such as church is always AGS one, campsite goes with Mittens, bar... etc.

Difficult-to-do idea, but I like it.

It's quite cool, but about walkcycle...
for a character so large, I would expect more movement, somehow. Like his head, torso, etc moving too with his feet.

He looks like.... a wooden doll. Maybe you could give some movement, especially for head/torso?

edit: Oh, Progz already mentioned that... eh, well, doubles the need!
Didn't read through thread? Well, Progz doesn't format his text  :P

Good day to you, and meet Mr.X,
an agent who works for government...

Your mission, should you decide to accept it - is to animate him doing some top secret work, such as firing a gun, using camera to take some important photos, decoding secret message, planting a bomb, etc. Just as long as it's related to him and some secret-agent-stuff enough.

There's no any other limitations to your task, feel free to improvise and be as creative as possible.

As always, should you or any of your fellow AGSers be caught or killed, I will disavow any knowledge of your actions.

This thread will self-destruct in 2 weeks.
Good luck to you, ladies and gentlemen.

Yay!  :D

I will start a new compo later today.

I picked the last edit for my edit. This is a 4-minute edit, but makes alot of change...

IMO, you have alot of lights there. But they are so dull.

What I did: Selected everything but lights and created a new, semi-transclusent dark blue layer onto it (which gives dark blue tone to eveything), and lightened/brightened it a bit around the lights.

This isn't probably what you're going for, but what I meant was - bring more player's attention to these little gadgets and lights, so your background gives much more detailed impression. I especially like how rightmost lights look.
But big empty areas > no-no. Avoid em', or fill em' with stuff.

I edited progzmax's edit... and tried to give him some expression.

It is background music. That's why I'm trying to use lottsa pads and ambient non-sticking-out sounds.

Bass? Now, that's good point. I have to experiment a lot though to get it right.

#1910
Seventh track, more ambient than usual, this time.
I'm totally in love with Syko guitar and Sytrus pads.

Something is missing though... what?

and I can't fight this repetitivity thing I like in music (damn you, trance!).

Ah, and are some things too loud? Not sure...

Please C&C!

Happy new year from me too!

Resolutions? Dedicate all my spare time on finishing Henri!
To be honest, I'm already doing this! And hardcore progress is made. Also, I'm updating the production thread occassionally now.

Same technique I use.
But you're so much better!

Gay? I was just trying to get close to him to secretly download his skills into my brain using a handy mindbender I got at eBay. And then perform a cruel murder so no one but me can use colors so nicely! muahah-- *khm*

You made it?
Oh my god.

Marry me! Marry me!

If you're male, I'm already collecting money for a trip to UK--
I can cook and clean and remove spyware and...

Er, though it's a sin to crit something as awesome like this, I suggest making water brighter color. Maybe even add some bits of green or brown, to get a bit better tone.

Also, some small, but strong color variety, such as tiny red or blue flower thinges on vines or something similar would be cool.

Ah, and the tree thingy over the chasm should produce a shadow of some sort.

Jesus, I feel so... weak.

Hm. Thinking again, I totally left out Command & Conquer Generals. It may be the best RTS out there, once you get used to it and fell in love with its music, cool speech and overall atmosphere.

Let your friends choose all different factions (there's three total, so it's good) and unite your advantages (USA has good overview of stuff and map, GLA has some great sneaky weapons and China has strongest tanks), make an alliance with them and take on 5 brutal AI enemies or so. Super fun guaranteed.

Yeh, what Yakspit just said was that if you feel very unsure about animating, follow my tutorial to only step 7.

And try if you can animate him.
I usually DO this, I just make animations without third shade, work until I get the animation correct, and only THEN add third layer of shade.

This is good, because it saves time.

A pleasant surprise! This guy looks like Bruce Willis/Chuck norris clone! :D

Things you have to improve are color usage and proportions, to make him look more human. The colors are way too bright and hands-toes look weird.

To make up my harsh crits on your game thread a bit, let me show you 10 simple steps to make this person better - use it as a simple tutorial to get better results.

original size:
http://www.increator.pri.ee/i/critshelp/person.png

1. Changed colors to actually see the character (it was too bright!).

2. Redrew hands. Since your outline usage was quite random, I made them proper too. New hands are longer, because in your version, this man could barely put his hands into pockets... which is illogical.

3. Removed random shading and outlines from pants. Also, pulled right leg about 2 pixels left to make foot support man better.

4-5. Removed random shade & outline from his shirt. Outlined properly again. Also, outlined pants.

6. Made head a pixel taller and a pixel thinner. Made lihter spots under eyes, outlined feet, made area around eyes darker, etc

7. Brought some new colors into play. Secondary skin color, darker pants shade and darker hair (previous brown looked too unnatural to me). Also, painted all body parts to a secondary shade color so it will be easy to add third, the final one.

8. Added third shade color to pants. It's quite easy to do, just freestyle with pencil tool, and try to make some wrinkles. Also,  the places where flesh meets cloth should be lighter, such as knees. Shirt secondary was too light, so I chose other, darker color. And finished some outlines plus moved them a pixel to the right.

9.  Shaded shirt same way I did pants. (pencil, by feeling)

10. Drew some toes, finished shading skin by adding third color.

See, it's incredibly easy, to be honest. My version is far from perfect yet, but I hope it helps a bit.

QuoteBut Increator, if I had to label your crit, I would label it as a temporary case of asshole. It didn't really help anything. He didn't release this in the completed games section, he put it in here, prolly because he knew it needed a little more...

I even... agree. But bgird32 should have posted *before* he started to assemble graphics into AGS. Well, being a newbie, he - of course - didn't have a clue.
My -real- crits match 100% Ishmael's, and there's nothing more to say than "try harder".

But being a resident in CL since 2003 and hearing
QuoteIncreator, if you don't know how to give crit, you don't belong in the crits lounge...

Really insults me.  >:(

and..

QuoteAnd I don't understand your "... once again" comment

Please take time to browse your message history, Eric. Whenever you're answering me in discussion/thread/etc, nothing good's around.

Thank you for hostility... once again. Maybe it is so. But find a way to download this and consider again.

And... hey, is it YOUR sprite getting mocked in there?

Hell, I can even mirror this:

Sorry, it's the most awful AGS... thing I've ever played.
And how did you pass registration test? The thread doesn't belong here!
