1) Yes, using mostly line tool and filling.
2) It's not difficult, any over-MSpaint program can do this
3) Most likely, check the tutorials sticky thread in critics lounge main page. But since the style is extremely simple, you don't actually need one.

And yes, don't effin' break the rules!

Bah. You're too sensitive, LJUBI. Don't people understand jokes in Serbia?

Anyways,

My new camera with over 200 km zoom caught someone preparing costume for Lapaset 2006. Who owns this smile?

EDIT: Er, sorry about it looking like one tooth's missing...  :P
I couldn't leave it out (too recognizable element), but can't make this dent smaller too, since 4-pixel sized mouth

Oo, mspaint! This needs a reply with mspaint!
I tried few poses too, but ended up with something you had at the start of the thread.

And I like it most. No insane angles (such as the right hand on very first pic - very hard to draw believeably), no holding the wheel like he could barely reach it (last edits), no covering face - which brings out thoughtful expression (instead of directly pointing at it!)...

Actually, I don't know. latest versions are quite cool too. And maybe my seat got TOO close.

Damn.

You have hell of a war to fight.

First, formatting is for the weak. I always argment over this with my friend Valter. He usually formats, I seek ways to repair.

There's a complete cleanup guide I used recently, I was about as fucked (left my cable connection on when installing XP, stupid!!!)

I suggest getting needed stuff and disconnecting from internet during the fight.

1. Get a program called CleanUp!
http://www.justtext.com/files/cleanup.exe

2. Get a small virus scanner named Dr. Web
http://www.drweb.com/

3. Get Ewido security suite Trial version (or buy full, whatever)
http://www.ewido.net/en/

4. Get some sort of firewall, best ones are ZoneAlarm and TrendMicro. I suggest Trendmicro, because it also works as anti-virus and anti-ad/mal/spyware.
http://www.trendmicro.com

5. Get newest anti-browser-hijacker, CWShredder
http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html

6. Install whole crap and update everything to get newest virus definitions and stuff

7. Restart computer in safe mode (during computer startup, tap F8)

8. In safe mode, first use CleanUp! to get rid of EVERYTHING your browser has saved on machine. Takes some time and gives heavy surprises. i.e. 2 days of computer usage produced over 1GB of junk on my HD!!!

* Next steps, some of stuff won't work in safe mode. use normal logon when needed.

9. Run CWShredder to clean your browser.

10. Time for Dr. Web. Scan everything and destroy everything.

11. Ewido. Full-Scan and destroy everything. It takes a LOT of time! And finds alot of crap too.

12. You may also try Trendmicro, both spyware and virus scans.

13. Empty virus vaults in named programs too, deleting every trace of baddies.

14. Run CWShredder again, just to be sure.

15. You should be much happier now. Just stay off from serial/crack and porn sites.

I hope it helps.

General Discussion / Re: Math problem!

Err.... thanks Steve.

QuoteThis is a question I sometimes ask interview candidates.
Anyone passed yet?   :-\

I actually thought that it can be done much simpler?

When programming a game - even that simple tank-wars type one, all I adjust is X and Y values for the shell. And probably want to modify either "angle" or "velocity" type variables, where changing one should result in approriate another to actually reach the point B.

Your formula... well, I have no clue how x or y changes every step  :(
This is waaaay over my head.

Okay, a simple game. there's "velocity", "angle", "x" and "y" for the shell. And also some kind of "gravity". By setting these values, shell flies off and lands.

Now I want to pre-program a shot. To hit one sure target.

x, y, and gravity are automatic/preset.
I adjust "angle". To something random.

How to get correct "velocity" from this?
and vice versa?

Original Half-life! Unreal Tournament!
For RTS side, I'd have a game or two Red Alert (1 and 2), Warcraft 2 and Age of Empires 2.
Racing? Need for speed: hot pursuit 2
And hell no, I'm not leaving Carmageddon out of this!

These games are very fun even with 3 players.
But wLAN? what's that?  :P

No, not like in your snowball game.

Well, something like this, yes, but imagine now that every ball you throw, DOES hit another.

Point B is always what ball DOES reach, just the arc it takes may vary.

Like, you make AI for computer player and he never misses. And uses different angles to throw. Producing different trajectories of the ball.

So you have to reverse engineer perfect, hitting shots.

How would you code this?

General Discussion / Math problem!
Sun 25/12/2005 23:12:46
Well, at my experiments, I reached the point where my math is absolutely not enough.

Problem, though it's simple, is quite hard to explain. I'll try.

Note: This is not neccessarily AGS related, but more like math and programming overall.

An object needs to move from point A to point B. Simple.

But he needs to follow the arc C to do this.

The distance between A and B is known, but the highest point of arc should be adjustable, so it generation of different arcs would be possible.

A and B are 2-d coordinates. Green lines are just to explain it.

Is there a simple way to do this?

What for, you may ask?
Imagine a random 2D basketball game. How did they make ball fly on arc towards the basket from random position on field?

Or - imagine a random "tank" type game. Like Scorched Earth, Tank Wars, Worms, QBasic Gorillas, etc.

Like those

In these games, you adjusted the angle and velocity but could only guess where shell actually lands.

In my version, you don't know the velocity or angle, but you DO know where the shell lands. A code which is usable for making a perfect AI where computer never misses... etc.

There's no particular project I need this for, but I've always wondered how to do this.

Anyone?

Another christmas, another thread...

Let me simply put my whole crits onto one line:

Stay away from gradients, black outlines and randomly thrown-together textures.

They need lots of experience and care to use properly. You're not ready yet.

From there, learn to use line tool (what the hell is going on with books/shelf/painting?), before posting, atleast FILL your shapes (what's those white spots everywhere? drunk art?) and please, TRY before you post your work for hundreds, if not thousands of people to see.

This image looks like a quick sketch for a real background, nothing less and definetly nothing more! Broken cord of picture (how could it hang there?), floating shelf, unfilled areas, unpainted and -finished books, etc...

Spend a bit more than 2 minutes on a background and I'm sure that you can produce much better images.

See, even now, people try to be nice to you.
Quote
You have potential, you will improve, I can tell you are new to drawing backgrounds for computer games.

(Sorry if i sounded harsh)

But I think that you're just lazy... Finish the picture if you have time, renew the post and you'll get better advice too.

The house must be in bottom of very deep valley to have such view outside from window.

I love the shading, but there's no way blacksmith's working room to look like this. It's clean like hospital!

Real smithys are almost black due smoke and ash. I mean walls, ceiling, lot's of trash on floor, etc. Dusty and ashy windows, so dark that it's almost impossible to see out...
Well, akumayo already said this. So I second. This is important!

Your drawing is good. But pay attention to ideas and composition.

QuoteAnyway, "Tulika takso" doesn't pay to me (but they should Cheesy), it's just because I wanted to create an atmosphere of Tallinn.

Drawing some nice contours/skyline of our beautiful Old Town will give much better atmosphere than using logos of insanely overpriced cab companies meant only for too rich and dumb tourists.

Also, they can SUE you for this.

I suggest redrawing the light-ray on window and give glass panels on door some shine too.

Also, where's the electrical lines? Antennas? Satellite dish maybe? There's quite a big list of all you could add to give this room some more details. Just google for photos of city scenes and pick some things you could add.

Or just click here.

Gotta contribute too...

Main problem is that everything is way too flat and 2D.
The shading you use makes it look so.

* Added taxi a bit of shading - the one which gives a bit of shape
* Made new windshield/windows to car, the ones that are actually allowed by traffic laws :)
* Made lamp post rounder
* Removed ugly green plant(?) thingies
* Played around with lights of the cab

Btw, using a logo of real cab company isn't very good idea. Unless they pay for it ;)

No horror novel
No horror movie
No Manhunt
No police documentary

Has never beat that extreme shock I got
when I was suddenly eaten by blue spider in KQ3!

This is MOST FRIGHTENING and UNEXPECTED onscreen experience ever!
#1936
It will work if you remove black color from bg's and make whole thing grayscale or some tone, not a mess of contrast.

Then the characters will stand out.

I loved the graphics, but never made further than first 7-8 rooms.
Story and puzzles just sucked too much for me.

That's like 16 walkcycles? times three = 48?
And 48 talking animations?

So if each walkcycle has 6 frames and talkcycle has 4 frames, it's 480 frames to draw. That's only walk and talk, this is too little of animation for a game, anyway.

I bet it becomes hard, pointless work instead of joy of creating at some point. So you get stressed, tired and drop the project.

And it'll be weird if there's less NPCs than players. And NPCs need animations too! So...

You're crazy.
