So little info on CJ?
And... where's Andail???

I hope wiki stays organized. Despite I don't like wikis much (or actually wikis that not original wikipedia), AGS wiki is quite good.

I remember yelling at "King of Chicago" since even forcing 150mhz pentium to run on 2 Mhz didn't make gun aiming possible... It just moved at hyperspeed!  Stupid game!
Then again, I would love to see a remake, with a bit polished (adventure!) style/interface. I loved the story, graphics and atmosphere.

General Discussion / Re: A strange e-mail

Heh, last year a similar bank trick shook whole country here.

E-mail was sent to people which linked to a site identical to bank's one where they had to enter their pincodes and codes from 40-numbers security card thingy. "Due upgraded security policies" or something like that. This was very believeable too, because this bank actually demands frequent security upgrading, like changing password in every month or two, etc.

Despite very advanced and strong IT-sector here, many fell for that, since people are too used to e-banking while internet crimes are still practically not existing. In just 24 hours, huge amount of money was stolen...

The traces led to a server somewhere in Siberia :P

Critics' Lounge / Re: Music shop bg

* Room has way too much height. Lower the ceiling to have it standard 240 pixels of height or so.
* The counter is too near to the wall. I can't imagine how a shopkeeper could work and move around there.
* Overall, there's too much of floor area. Lower the vanishing point (make floor area smaller and shelves too)
* Walls are too boring for a shop. Textureeeee....
* There's lots of pointless surfaces. Either fill or lose them. Player has no need to see so much ceiling... Because it's just a plain, gray area.
* Hiphop, punk and metal all on one shelf looks odd. Try to change hiphop to "rock" or something like that. Like punkers and rappers standing next to each other and browsing for their music... This is weird.

* Why is word "trance" cut??  >:( >:( >:(

Less saturation on these neon orange shelves!

But emulate?  >:(
That's not a way to go. Correct thing to do would be...
Improve!!!  :D

Try:

1. Photoshop...
Edit menu > color settings
or simply hotkey
Shift-Ctrl-K

And try to change things here and see what happens.
It may be neccessary to take a screengrabs to know later how to fix (what was there before) if you make it worse

2. Get correct drivers for your video card and monitor or check if they're correct. Photoshop is somehow super sensitive to color settings.

3. Windows Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > Color Management - make sure there's no color profiles enabled. If is, try removing them... Just an idea.

4. If your video card came with some color adjusting software (Winfast NVidia cards for example have this pointless crap called e-color) and you installed it, try removing

5. If you pirated the PS C2, try pirating again, some other version buying it legally.

Hey... I'm giving some photoshop related advice here? Me? WTF?
Byee!

Critics' Lounge / Re: Office break room...

Well, to me it reminds Yahtzee. And that's good, clean look and careful approach feels sufficent for a game bg for most of time.

But there's definetly some things to do:

* DO NOT use JPG compression! It makes editing real horrible thing to do. Use PNG. You can save PNGs even in Windows Paint.

* There's way too much shades of black/white/gray in your room. And these colors are totally plain. Be brave and try out yellow, blue or green tones. Or maybe red. If you want to go for clean and hospital-like room, divide walls vertically into three or four parts and make about 1/3 of it (near floor part) light cyan/green or blue. This adds atleast a bit of color and looks to your bg.

* Think logically.

1. The lights were yellow. But whole room has zero of yellow light or shades. Therefore - lights are badly chosen or lighting is undone. This is what Haddas added and tried to explain.

2. The table is ultra thin. The "feet" of table are thick. What for? To hold up that thin plate? It's pointless since that thin plate is unstable when 4 people eat there anyway.

* Don't pay attention to my edit, make your own and better. This is just for ideas. I had to noise up floor to have atleast a tiny bit of detail there. I'm sure that proper tiling/texturing/coloring would do better job. Also, the plant was too flat - changed, the diagonal house was distracting - moved to back, everything had too similar shade of gray - changed here and there/ some things felt too flat - shaded a bit

Warcraft: Orcs and Humans - a.k.a Warcraft 1

Cold! This game often succeeds in freezing my back. Dark forests, brutal orcs, dark magic versus holy powers, red blood and screams of defenseless peasants... well, classical and great. One of coolest things on this planet.

It's damn sad that Blizzard ruined this deep stuff in WC2 with stupid wacky voices, light-green disney-cartoon-like happyland orcs & other bullshit (though as a strategy game, it was still good) and went downhill from there.

Quake II

Since my best friend leads a Q2 clan, still denies the fact that it's so outdated and pointless game and keeps recording long demos & showing them whenever I visit him, I've developed physical reactions to this game. I *NEED* a smoke whenever I see it! (smokers should understand difference here - between words "need" and "want")
So we walk out for a smoke and I get spared from this again.

emulated NeoGeo Games (Samurai Shodown IV, Art Of Fighting 2, KOF 2000)

After a long workday full of insults, accusations and stupid assignments, there's nothing that releases my free breathing, lowers blood pressure and calms me down better than finishing one of named games quickly. It's amazing how much these old 2D fighting games both teach (random japanese SNK animator = superhuman) and relax me.

And if I want to lose some hair and break some keyboard, I play HL2:Lost coast with High Dynamic Range Lighting turned on. Suffer, you lousy video card, suffer!

I think that recognition comes with amount of resources in game. Like characters, rooms and puzzles.

Short games vary from 1 to 6-7 rooms, have about 1-10 characters and hourful of puzzling.

Medium games are somewhere between 10-20 rooms. And about as much characters. Puzzles - something that takes a long evening or a whole day.

Anything bigger that this should be classified as "long".

Charity-charity...
This forum is a charity.

Who not use profit for extra bandwidth/start a bandwith emergency fund?

I'd say that this is not a matter/question for simple forum users to answer:

But the person who organizes it --
and
The creators/copyright holders of these games on CD.

Organizer must provide writing, material (CD's/DVDs/etc) and distribution, creators must give their permissions. For EVERY game on disc.

If you want to do this and get allowance, who can stop you? CJ and these 9 can't refuse a christmas present. Or if they still choose so, there's millions of hungry kids on our planet, why not give them something nice?

What's more to ask? Market research?

I don't like what you did with light: it's like 2-Watt bulb up there... what for?

Since it's quite interesting bg, I tried some ideas of detailing stuff up, and on Andail's edit, since your version is too dark.
I didn't intend to make an "edit", just try out things. But I'm showing this anyway.

Get rid of the outlines on walls. Especially this pointless red/brown outline up there, where wallpaper's torn.

Anyway, if you see anything that may generate ideas on my image, I've done something useful.

You're making it sound more complicated than it actually is: AGS is easy!

Just learn few critical script commands to get rid of interaction menu using, get used to globalints, and you're ready to make games!

What's to learn so much??

After all, most things in programming are NOT learnable: inventing solution to numerous problems by yourself is what programming's all about!

Dead end? Read my first post: The tutorial is in progress, not completed yet.
#1955
Yes, another hate sony thread...
#1956
Well, I changed it to more eye friendly (??) green. Better?
And since it's totally in WIP state, there's lot's of typos.
Will change that later!

Alright, with great enthusiasm I started "leaving a trace" by introducing this simple crap I can do best and what amazes some people.

A complete tutorial. Serious one.
I made one when I was total n00b and made to tutorials section in ags main page. So this is the second one.

It's way harder work than I thought, i'm practically doing something that's usually 2-minutes work for 3 days already!

Now, when I'm through with start, I got doubts about this...

* Is my english sufficent for a thing like this? Sure, I can post on forums and majority understand, but a tutorial...?
* I'm not a web designer and hardly know how to make a page. Frontpage XP is quite easy thing to use, though. Is it comfortable-readable enough?
* How do I explain? Or let me rephrase - do you understand a thing I'm trying to teach?
* What's the level of telling things? I tried to dumb things as down as possible, but it's dumb for me, I can't feel/think for others. Or did I go overboard telling some extremely easy thing too long?

This thing takes lot's of my time, which is quite valuable thing anyway, since I have no holidays and 1-3 hours per evening free time after all. If noone needs this, I'm wasting my time.

So, main question is - should I continue?
And will anyone actually need it?

Thanks for checking out.

General Discussion / Re: My stupid idea

I don't see stupid idea here, but stupid thread indeed.

Nobody knows your stories! So no-one can debate about stories worthy or even too crazy to make games based on them.
You could link to some and get less stupid responses then.

But anyway, welcome to the forums. Story writers are always in need (see my banner  :-[)

I totally agree with what Andail said.

Also -
Look at the bed. Imagine someone lying on it. Would that man fit through door?

Even if could, the bed just feels extremely big.

Perspective is easy to kill:
Add a camera to scene, put it where it has to be, and from its settings, turn on "ortographic projection".

There.

But this thread is in wrong place: there's nothing to criticise or comment.
