Critics' Lounge / Re: C&C on character

His hands are still too short.

You're free to either google for photo or look in the mirror: hands reach a bit more than halfway of a thigh, pretty close to the knees, not only pants pockets.

Still, that's a huge step forward, this last edit.
You should also consider making feet (shoes) look right... see my edit for tips.

Nice sprite, but...
Where are you driving? Why add colors?

Bombarding sprite with additional colors won't solve any problems, since you're still not really using them.

What I mean with USING I can explain with my edit...

2X:

Look here.  I corrected lotsa lines and used only 3-4 colors per sprite part.

Excellent (as always!) indeed, though

Quote* sprite should look usable in real game

hmmm....

And if it doesn't, don't bother.
That's probably what the Curse of Monkey Island is about.
#1985
nah, thanks. I got this sorted out by myself:

just adding /is parameter to win98 setup.exe will force it to skip that stupid good-for-nothing scandisk. From there, everything went smoothly.

General Discussion / A problem with windows
Tue 22/11/2005 10:44:54
Does anyone know how or what to use to fix "invalid long filename entry" under DOS? I can't install windows since it suggests scandisk for windows to repair this, yet it won't install windows until problem is solved :(

Googleing around didn't help much. And I can't take HD out to fix it on other machine, since the stupid guarantee. But I also don't want to take computer to the guarantee because of pr0n important and top secret stuff on hard disk.

"prizewatch.com"
Yeh, gives a new whole meaning for word "obivious".

Interesting, but not attractive.
I mean, these BG's look gorgeous in a game, but on shirt, they make very little sense.

A composition of (pixellated) sprites sounds much cooler, i think, like taking some sprites from some games and arrange them all onto shirt somehow...

See this thread, page 40 and Petteri's megaman shirt. Now that's the stuff.

*shudders*

Layers? For your knowledge, none of Adobe products are never ever involved in any of my art... especially Photoshop.'
Or anything else that hi-tech.

Layers. I knew I should have kept em' :D
I was thinking about transclusent pure white rectangles myself, both fore- and background have same contrast/influence and fading/fogging horizon out a bit sounds good.

What pain is to do it all manually now :(

Stupid game maker!
*Didn't have any decent GIF software installed :D

Huh?  ???

Thanks for professional C&C!
Here we go...

2x:

After some pixel cosmetics...

* Added another reflection of NYC to the window at upper left
* Fixed the tree... sort of. Or made it worse. <undecided>
* Desaturated house roof and van-type car (how are these called, anyway? these little cars postals and delivery services drive?)
* made roof of van-car thinner
* removed red car (it was quite weird even on photo)
* finished second VW-Golf-like black car and made first one more gray (yes, two cars there), also fixed windows
* Tried some trippy shit on house roof (getting brighter thing)
* Pulled lousy trick on office building windows to "unite" their shade
* Used my n00b skills to manually antialiase (sort of :/) the ledges and sign
* also n00biased and straightened the damned zebra (god, it's hard to draw despite of being so simple thing!)
* colored some bushes
* ruined the area where frontmost building meets the concrete(orangeish yellow + darken processor = burned & ugly)
* Gave my optical mouse a good beating, the way only NES controller got it decades ago... that's why my post may sound agressive  :D The thing totally refused to perform a function called "dragging" releasing button by itself after every pixel

I think that's better now!
Maybe I still missed something?

If you mean light blue thingy at the back, it's van-like car-
If you mean purple Ford Sierra at the front, it's door is open a bit (intentionally) - which may confuse a bit.

Please clarify if there's really something wrong.

Critics' Lounge / A Background. Please C&C!
Sat 19/11/2005 21:20:43

2x:

Title says it all. This is most likely the best bg I've ever produced and also record of time spent on bg; I drew it yesterday 7 hours non-stop...

After all this work I somewhat hesitated to ask for C&C since bigger improvements that take heavy time again are something i'd rather avoid... but if I got this far, let's make this perfect.

BTW, for fun facts: reference photos I used were: a scene from streets of city of Prague, a Japanese research center and a scene from NY City  :D And of course, lot's of freestyle drawing.

So, criticise and comment my background, please.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Alex Wild (Face)

I don't like Joelman's edit much and suggest to stick to original.
But:

* Make lighter spots exactly under eyes, where cheecks are.
and
* Reduce contrast between cheecks and mouth-nose area, to reduce "monkey face" effect.

If it's a westman, a bit of rough unshaved beard wouldn't hurt.'
It's not like those men had time to shave and wash every day.

Quotei don't think that Mordalles must be kicked for his opinions, because i think this is the object of a forum, isn't it?
Quotethey are just kidding friend,

Yes, kidding. We won't kick anyone just because of saying that people at CL suck and give shitty advice.
We just burn him on the stake and dance around the fire.
Also, there's annual meeting called Mittens where we lure all infidels, saying that's a happy internet people gathering where they actually get their annual beating and torture.

Now, Erwin_br made an excellent point. I knew that something's missing - candles, yes!
Waiting for fixes, it's a great BG, after all and worth the work.

Also, if possible (by your modelling software), google for some ornaments, make bumpmaps for them, and add them to those - otherwise boring benches. Being that simple, they just don't fit to this church, since church itself is quite colossal-looking.
#1997
Still working. Pace is awfully down, since i have very little time due school and work all the time.
I think that i won't be able to finish it for christmas.
#1998
Tried it, loved it.
BG graphics is superb (and a bit more!), though I don't like character art and animations at all:(

Trying not to be harsh - characters, drawn in Darth's way, have nice detail and colors, but the expression on face somwhat disturbs me. Like they were overdepressed or mentally insane giving this "whatever, shoot me with that gun" face.

Music is another very special part, I hope whole soundtrack follows this nondisturbing and deep style.

Since it's a demo, bugginess doesn't count much.

But the GUI is a bit uncomfortable, The menu could open with a single left click and give options, it would be much easier this way. Just like it was in The Hamlet.

On day render, add an ambient light to the scene. Weak, but enough to simulate light reflecting from objects, because the amount of light seen in windows... well, I just don't believe that it lights church only via beam and won't spread on collisions. The wall with windows should also be much more visible and not so dark.

-or-

you could remove whole church thingy and leave only watermark. Make it bigger, yes, and maybe duplicate few times.

If you're too dumb to get it yet, then...
Spoiler
Using watermark in AGSforums is insult to other members! How do you explain people to be good enough to help you, but not good enough to trust with your image?! BTW, since you're new, here's a fact: I don't recall ever anyone stealing someone's graphics. If there was someone, he'd surely lose a place in the community, so stop this nonsense if you want your images to be taken seriously (and get less sarcastic replies). Also, there's superb artists here, and no-one uses watermarks. Your usage tells other that 'oh, i'm so damn great, keep hands off my work, you bunch of talentless thieves'. This is definetly not good way to show yourself.
