Seventh edition is the best, IMO. Despite humming and endless MSN new message sounds ;)

Zooty's interview made me... rofl? It was really funny!

And Petteri's strong Scandinavian accent is kind of... familiar? I'm sure mine is exactly the same (this is what happens to how you sound when you live in far north!)

I'm starting to love those interviewsÃ, Ã,  :-*

Now... finally finished the game (took 2 days since I managed to keep myself away from walkthrough)...
...after getting my jaw back in in place and eyeballs to normal size....
...and having normal body temperature again...

I say that this is fucking awesome.

The sluggish character speed, some fps problems and way too much area to explore in the middle of the game started to bore me.... until I finally made it to the end.

Though the game has "horror" written all over it, I didn't find the game giving me chills or anything much, but more like AGSer interest about all these neat GFX effects all over the game... Until the end.

The ending... my back went freezingly cold, the story, superb music and cinematics... well, it makes it all worth it and much more!

Excellent. Though I'm feeling a bit sorry about somewhat weak technology behind this (I mean art, low resolution and somewhat weird 3d that's there). With a story so good, it sounds a bit like a waste. A bit more polish, and you could have gone commercial with this!

It may be the best AGS game released in 2005.

Now stop writing useless posts in Gen-gen and start a sequel!
That's an order.

The theme is a bit... confusing. Are we supposed to draw a motel in some kind of deserted place? and - interior or extrerior?
Pity that you didn't offer any sample images.

QuoteMany of us have made similar statements: Whipped this out real quick; didn't have time; screwed up but was too far into it to correct; don't like it much; didn't care about it.

For an image in CL, it's either a pose or truth. This means that we're not totally statisfied with it and so we posted it for further help.

QuoteMy, the overall quality of this thread is sky high!

Well, Krysis won the last one, right?
Now why not give him hard time on deciding the winner?  ;)

QuoteI apologise InCreator for interpreting your post as one of those hostile, and for probably pointing it out too sharply, which I didn't wish to do.

No need to, no offense taken. (To be honest, I'm always surprised how fragile others are and how easily offended, even in internet forums).

I'm just tired (and I believe many others are too) of this "FlukeBlake's case" and I'm trying to help him, suggesting how to act. It may be harsh, but seem right to me (there was time where I was on his level too, though I wasn't that radical).
Any trial to enter conversations in gen-gen usually ended with Shabazjinkens hammering me, so it was quite difficult to learn to act in place with so many different cultures and views.

My way out and to the arena (though I'm still quite nobody, I think) was the Critics Lounge. Helping people was both fun and educational for me aswell... and here I am.

I think that FlukeBlake needs similar anchor to attach himself into community. Best way would be releasing a game, and prefreably something that gains at least a bit of popularity.
But if he chooses CL, there's some unwritten (and written aswell) rules here.

My advice was far from "stupid accusation" and it was given as artist and 2-year-resident-of-CL, not as a moderator-wannabe or Anti-flukeblake-club-member.

Tuomas acted like FlukeBlake was a jew and me an angry skinhead, waiting for flame/fight where it wasn't even close. That's the modern mentality what has been discussed a lot in Gen-gen.

Truth is, I repeat myself again...

Dear Flukeblake.
Now that your bad reputation is leaving you and AGS members are starting to forget things, please consider taking things seriously.
You have a helpful community of very skilled people here... why waste it?
Try to draw really well, and post only when you feel that you're in point where you could really use professional help and you are ready to accept and use it well, too. Not taking others seriously ends up with people not taking you seriously. Don't take offense about what I said, just open this image of yours in paint software and show what you're really made of.

This is what I would do instead of you.
I believe it might work.

There's nothing to crit here: so-called "flower" is simply a red and green blob and coffin without textures and cross would be simply 2 rectangles.

I don't understand what do you want to achieve by posting this here.

suggestion: Don't post "timekillers", they won't neither give you any useful feedback nor help you in learning to draw.
Next time, draw long and hard, try to squeeze everything out of your skills. Then we crit and you improve.

Oh, I was pleasantly surprised after started the game...
Though screenies were a bit boring...
It IS good!  :D

Strong side is story & atmosphere, weakest one - characters and GUI art (too messy, especially inventory window). But nothing serious, really.

Ah, and I don't know if it's the already mentioned bug, but
Spoiler
The oily water area is made of 2 rooms. You can get stuck in one of them (second one) so character won't exit to the first.

the way: Enter second water room and immediately look at rocks to get closeup. Then exit closeup. Since character is still in area which triggers first room, AGS ignores that fact.

workaround: walk down a bit to exit the trigger area and walk up again.

Nothing serious again, but confusing.

Meet Max Payne...

About 15 (± 2) colors.
Not as good as I hoped to make it, but what the heck...

#2011
It won't probably help you since the simple-color style you're using, but you might want to take a look anyway.

http://www.hot.ee/increator/textures.htm

It's simple technique I've been using for ages, though tutorial was written ages ago aswell - just see my newer bg's how it really looks like.

Well...

The head's size is... wrong. Not because it looks way too large.
But because it's almost impossible to draw eyes-nose-mouth onto head with such size. I, personally, wouldn't have a clue where to start if i had to draw a face onto that head.
I'd make it either bigger or way smaller.

But the main problem is what all newbies do: there's too much of body space.

You cannot fill it to make it look good - and result is what Danclarke said - it feels dull and inspirationless.

It's much easier if you started with much smaller limbs and body, and then variated it with adding pockets, buttons and stuff so there's very little of plain, open, flat 2D space on body.

This is a way to both simulate and actually have some detail on your sprites.

What do I suggest? Redraw in smaller scale.

And about pose: There's poses that do really exist, but are extremely rarely drawn. Yours' is one of them. Why rarely?

Because it's very unlikely for the pose to give realistic feeling.
Even if it is realistic. In other words, if you draw, draw what looks good, not what's 100% real.

Looks good!

But!

Is it beta tested?
And proofreading is also a thing you should do, Gord.

I really don't understand why people release games without these two things undone, especially if game is good! Why spoil it?

I won't download this until you get better host... though i'm VERY tempted to download... you have spent so much time on this...

But 8 kb/sec is way too slow.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Fall Portraits
Mon 07/11/2005 10:41:06
I like first one...

...though you could focus onto face, not breasts, and so have more leaves on picture

And the last one...

...though the background got a bit too defocused and could be more visible/ shoot a bit more right so half of photo wasn't a tree

General Discussion / Re: Help name my kitten!

Didn't go through all posts neither, but for a black cat, "Evil" for a name fits like a glove.
Or "cuppie", since you already bothered to ask here :D

I think it's about time to announce the winner.
Since !all entries were really !good, and you gave me hard time to pick the winner... huh...

I liked Tiki's and Krysis' entries the most, so the winner is...

Krysis!

Congratulations. And start a new Jam soon.

Let's post some pics...

Me, having fun in the sea.
Since it was October, water was terribly cold, maybe 2-4 degrees Celsius!
But I was too drunk to care  :)
And I totally pwned that mermaid...

Me and my friend Valter (i'm on the right) on this picture...
After-party morning just before getting totally drunk again, this time.
It's quite visible on picture too   :-\

QuoteI agree, that if I took the time to practice and went through some hardship I could be person who could draw. However, making backrounds is something I absolutely loath. I just don't enjoy doing it. I also don't enjoy doing things I hate. So, it's obvious I'm not going to put the time and effort into becoming better at it.

Well-well...
It's hard for me to understand, since I always used my creativity as an outlet and - how to put this... bridge between my inner world and real one. How can anyone not enjoy expressing himself? Especially in so expressive way?
It's really sad if you're feeling about art like you said, but I still prefer to think about this as a complex(was it english? :P) of yours.

But of course, success is also the key to further motivation. Failings are not.

Played SH2 and SH3.
Hated, yes, seriously hated both. Awful control & cameras, no clue what the hell is going on, occasional stupidity masked as "horror".

For me It's like Alone In the Dark games minus interesting locations & story and/or puzzling.

No, don't get it neither.
